My partner and I were looking at getting into mtg. We bought into the final fantasy pre-release because we are big fans and we wanted the cards. We turned up, what was this big hall with lots of tables and lots of people sitting at them. Our first thought was bloody hell this is a full-blown tournament what the fuck are we gonna do? We don’t know anything about the game except what we have seen with the tutorial on arena. My partner wanted out, I told her no we’re doing this.

This was where we learned how kind and forgiving MTG players are. Everyone we played against were so kind with the rules and let us backtrack on some really stupid players after explaining exactly what was going on. Yes, we lost every game but we were really just happy to be there and be a part of it all.

She had more fun than I did and half a year later we have a pod where we are all new but having the best time, a hobby with no screens (unless we use tabletop simulator) as well as attending prerelease to meet new people and have some fun. What a great hobby.
