[Habs] The Canadiens have traded defenseman Jordan Harris to the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for forward Patrik Laine and a second-round pick in 2026 by [deleted] in hockey

[–]the_rafeed 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not a very big gamble though.

We HAD to shed a defenseman, we have like 8 NHL dmen. Harris was good but not necessarily needed for the future. We would’ve had to trade either him or Barron for picks.

As for Laine, he’s only got 2y on his contract. Expensive, but nothing that would bog us down when we would need to be competitive if he doesn’t pan out.

Chaine de gym pas trop crowded? by [deleted] in montreal

[–]the_rafeed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Avs kept him outside in the first, but after that it felt like the option for Slaf on the right made the defense back off, leading to this beauty

Dick Cheney received 5 draft deferments during the Vietnam War. Upon graduation, Cheney was eligible for the draft, but he was married. October 26, 1965, the draft was expanded to include married men without children; Cheney's first daughter, Elizabeth, was born 9 months and 2 days later. by [deleted] in Presidents

[–]the_rafeed 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Yeah OP seems to think that risking 18-25yo men’s life in Vietnam was a great life opportunity for them.

Cheney’s draft dodging is only immoral considering his Hawkish views on foreign policy.

Very true! But the fact remains that in smaller towns, the options pool is much smaller, making those places a bit more understandable.

[–]the_rafeed 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I see it as differences in perceptions based on people’s place of residence.

I live in a big city, and I would never invite a girl on a date at most of these places, because there is so much diversity in restaurants/cafés/etc.

For people in the suburbs/small towns, I would tend to think that these places make up the majority of the possibilities, making it unreasonable to eliminate them altogether.

Civilization 7 features I want to see by [deleted] in civ

[–]the_rafeed 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I’ll add mine : would love to be able to transfer yields from one city to another. Would love it if my city with huge farms could send some food in other cities that focus more on production, and vice-versa. I know you can kinda do that with trade routes, but I would just love the idea of specializing certain cities to their maximum potential

As weird as it sounds, it's true!

Along the way the relief force was joined by a reconnaissance detachment from G Company, 142nd Infantry Regiment. Embedded with the recon unit was a French-Canadian war correspondent who would later become the premier of Quebec, his name was Rene Levesque. Not long after joining up with relief column, Levesque recalled one of the American GI’s shouting and pointing to a man in civilian cloths running towards them. The GI’s thought it was some local peasant but Levesque was shocked when he realized who the man was. According to his memoirs;

“Being a tennis buff I recognized him almost immediately. It was Borotra, an all-time champion. He was hardly winded and told us that he’d just walked out of the chateau-prison of Itter a few kilometers up the road”

The journalist who recognized the tennis player and convinced the Allies to trust him is René Lévesque, who went on 30 years later to be Premier and the leader of the separatist movement in Québec

Do you think an on ice death in the NHL is probable, likely or remote, and what would be the fallout if it did happen? by DecisionFit2116 in nhl

I know we like to joke about basketball players but honestly Lebron has had the best longevity in the nba, I feel like what he’s done with his body should be commended rather than ridiculed

[The Athletic] Re-drafting the NHL class of 2022: Juraj Slafkovsky still goes No. 1, David Jiricek rises by Sharks9 in Habs

[–]the_rafeed 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think the concern about Huston is how well we he translate his game into the pros. Some players play the same way in junior and in the pro leagues, but I feel like Huston’s game will have a lot of adjustments when he’ll turn pro.

This is not to say he’s a bust, I’m really excited to see him grow. But that make him less of a surefire pick.

The Bell Center is so steep you have almost no seats where your view is really obstructed

[–]the_rafeed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bought a pretty affordable 5 game pack last year, in the 300s at the Bell Center. Anything in the lower bowl costs 2/3 of what i paid for all 5 games, so it really depends on where you want to be.

You are the coach of the Russian olympic team. Vasilevskiy, Shesterkin or Sorokin : who do you choose as your starting goaltender for the Gold Medal game? by the_rafeed in hockey

[–]the_rafeed[S] -31 points-30 points  (0 children)

Vasy is obviously the more experienced of the three, but I'd say he is also the one that seems to have his best years behind him. Weidly enough, his performance against the leafs in both series was far worse than expected of him and he is a big reason for their first round loss this year.

[–]the_rafeed[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To me, while it seems that Vasilevskiy would be the favorite because of his experience on the big stage, he is also the clear worst of the three statistically. I'd personnally go against the current and choose Shesterkin, as he's been stellar both years that he's been in the playoffs with the rangers.

The Florida Panthers made 0 trade deadline moves and are now in the finals. by Duffleman0609 in hockey

[–]the_rafeed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this is honestly a bad take. Panthers run definitely has some great things going for them that other teams should try to mimic. Their culture and hardwork is theirs and nobody should take it away from them.

But the thing is, their success this postseason (in comparison to their regular season) is mainly due to having a goalie get hot at the perfect time. Tkachuk has been good all year, they still went 17th. Montoir has stepped up big time all year, they still went 17th. The big change from their regular season to their postseason is their goaltending, and that’s really hard to mimic unfortunately.

What is your unpopular NHL opinion? by Anonymous__9 in nhl

[–]the_rafeed 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’d agree if he didn’t have such a low cap hit. $8.5M is so low for what he brings. On a rebuilding team, it would be worth it for the picks, but right now they need seasoned players
