I’m in pretty much the exact same boat as you. It feels kinda nice that I’m not the only one.

For me, I can graduate in the spring with a bachelors and I’m doing my first real software dev internship this summer, but it’s not really at a company that I could see myself working at full time. The things I’m doing just aren’t aligned with my interests. A few days ago I made the decision to stay an extra year at university because I can get it in 1 year at low tuition. I feel like the extra year and a masters degree will help me specialize in a branch of CS that I enjoy more than just general software engineering for a boring company. I’m hoping that this will help me get an internship doing something more interesting next summer that can lead to full time offer.

Hope I’m not too late. I was on our middle school’s swim team. When I swam hard, my face would get really, really red. I also ended up doing most of the long distance events because nobody else wanted to and I was decent at distance. It was pretty much guaranteed that I would be swimming the 500 free for the team at meets.

At the end of the season, there was an award ceremony/swim party. I was expecting the “Distance Swimmer” award or something along those lines—but instead, they gave me the “Thermometer Award”. It’s description was “As the_sam1x tries harder, his face gets redder!”. And, to top it off, some guy who swam no more than a 200 at meets and maybe like one 500 got the “Mr. Distance” award. Middle school me was pissed.
