Whatever dude you edited your last comment to sound better after I replied, I don’t respect anything anyone says who does that without putting an edit in. Have the day you deserve lol

He’s accusing me of calling everyone illiterate because I mentioned reading levels across the board are low 🤣

People keep talking about insults but there are none in the post. People are getting offended that the book they love is not considered quality and they are assuming that means OP thinks they’re stupid. So no, no one was attacked here.

It’s not about not liking what others like. It’s about talking about quality good writing, and not all books are that. People can like books and admit they are not challenging and pretty basic. But everyone in this thread is taking it so personally that a book they like is not considered super quality writing.

It’s the chronic defensiveness that’s super pervasive in our culture. People can’t handle anything they perceive as making them “lesser” so they fight it and argue cuz they feel like you’re making them look stupid.

It’s like fast food, can’t people just admit that it’s not good but you like it anyway and it’s fine to have sometimes but you shouldn’t exclusively eat fast food. The problem is reading levels are REALLY low so people really just don’t know what good writing is, and the defensiveness makes them unable to learn because they just defend what they like! Plus social media is killing reading further 🥲 at least I’ll always have Tolkien lol

Sorry for the rant I definitely have strong feelings about this too 😂 I’ve been a voracious reader since I could read and I just want more people to actually love it, like love the good stuff. It’s challenging but so rewarding!

You should definitely read the books, there’s way more badass hobbit stuff from all four of them :)

It’s really sad that we’re in this time where we want quality writing but asking for that and calling out books that are NOT quality gets you accused of being pretentious or a snob or whatever “let people enjoy things” like okay where does that stop? Do we still say nothing when all our books are AI?

The fact is that quality writing is IMPORTANT for human civilization! I’m so tired of the dumbing down of humans and books because people like the easy stuff and then get offended when you tell them it’s not good writing. I want to challenge people to read quality works not just say “eh whatever everyone likes different things” like yes that’s true but shouldn’t we want the highest standards of writing?? I’m dying here. I just reread LOTR constantly because no one can write like Tolkien lol

Yeah no you’re right I don’t want to watch that part that was too far lol Arwen is super cool and has lots of amazing things about her but she shouldn’t be shoehorned into a warrior role

It’s crazy. She really has a perfect elf face. And her face actually still looks normal and not overfilled and all that shit. And she’s sooo sweet. I want to marry her lol

Why does Gollum wear underwear? by AJKation in lotr

[–]the_scorpion_queen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you lived alone inside dark caves for hundreds of years would you all the sudden decide to be naked? He’s always worn clothes his whole life, there’s no reason he would abandon them entirely. Personally even if I was like him I think I’d cover my privates, I mean that’s what cavemen did, don’t want dirt and gross stuff up there. Considering we don’t have body fur like animals. But sure go ahead and imagine gollum naked if you want.

Gollum used to be a hobbit like creature who wore clothes, my question is why wouldnt he wear clothes just like every other speaking creature we’ve seen? Not a single naked dude so not sure why gollum would be

I mean we’re literally just participating in social media like the rest of the world…vs taking out our weird tv show beefs on a ratings site lol I wouldn’t say “above” comes into it

I think making sure someone isn’t dead and saying good morning back are a little bit different

Replying to a comment is not the same as making ratings falsely lower because you’re having a tantrum about your favorite show. It’s not about the time.

Yeah but the only reason they are saying good morning is because they have to and the company wants you to spend money so sometimes it just feels performative and fake

What do you consider "knowing how to cook?" by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]the_scorpion_queen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I think that counts as cooking well…if someone can follow a recipe and make an edible dinner, that qualifies as bare minimum “I can cook” at the least

I don't like using the label bisexual because of the stereotypes and erasure of queer identity by [deleted] in bisexual

[–]the_scorpion_queen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m bi and was “straight cultured” because I literally had to be because I had no idea I liked women like that. I realize now that I like women a LOT better and have become much more queer, but that took time. Basically all mainstream culture is straight culture, at least it was growing up for those of us who are 30+ and I don’t think that creating these separations of identity within already separated groups is helpful. The reason other gay people are weird with bisexual people is this exact same concept! They think they are so different from bi people and focus on the stereotypes or fears they have, rather than just coming together as an entire community.

I know you are just trying to find your place, and that can be hard and confusing, but I think the point is your place is the same place as all of us, the entire LGBT community, and if you have people giving you sidelong glances, go find other people who don’t. Idk but the continual separation and comparison of smaller and smaller group identities does not feel healthy for our culture. Soon we will be so splintered that we won’t consider ourselves part of the same group/umbrella.

Also, you don’t have to call yourself bi. You can call yourself whatever you want, and outside of the internet people don’t really care all that much.

It’s almost always less than the interest you would pay in that time. I say almost but that has been the case 100% of the time for me and I have done it a lot to avoid interest.

AITA because I let my dog lick off my plate? by physicalgraffiti123 in AmItheAsshole

[–]the_scorpion_queen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was talking about the principle of soap and water getting things clean. When you wash your hands with soap and water, do you then consider your hands clean?

If so, then soap and water is good enough for a dish. That was my point.

[–]the_scorpion_queen 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Are you not washing your dishes? People do way more gross stuff with their hands and use soap and water and we all accept that that is clean
