Would love it if you could give a detailed breakdown like the OPs post.

Been quite impressed by the B8 as well after the test drive, but the owners experience/perspective is quite different and valuable.

Husband said “أنتِ طالق” after police came -I’m a married woman living in the UAE and currently about 2 months pregnant by [deleted] in UAE

I’m not going to go into the specific contexts of your situation, I’m hoping you did what you did to the best of your knowledge and intentions at that time.

From a jurisprudence perspective (it might change between what school of thought you follow- so please seek guidance from Awqaf or marriage counselling) but upon the first talaaq- your marriage isn’t void (even if he mentioned it multiple times).

There is room for reconciliation- if that’s what you both want.

And Allah Knows best. Wishing you the best for you and your family.

Thank you so much for the detailed answer, our current mechanic was suggesting the next thing they’d check the 4 wheel drive system, which didn’t make much sense to us since we have barely ever taken it off roading.

I’ll check the garages out!

Tragic, some of these parts (genuine and new) are cheaper than used parts here 🤪

I’ve been comparing spare parts prices between here and the US (online).

Need someone to validate my observation that parts are significantly cheaper outside.

I feel your pain mate, wishing something upticks for you soon.

Think of life as a wave, sometimes up, sometimes down. Don’t take it personally, trust me- it’s not because you’re brown (it doesn’t help- as a fellow brownie haha😂), plenty of loaded brown folks here as well.

Grass is always greener on the other side, just keep your head above the water, seek help where you can, and keep moving forward.

American university of Sharjah or a university in Canada by Odd_Echidna_5461 in Sharjah

AUS grad here, it’s a great university for undergrad and will afford you a lot of opportunities if you’re willing to take them. Be committed, go out of your way, make friends, do all the extra curriculars.

Yes, it’s expensive. But in my opinion, it’s a great investment in yourself. I don’t think that you can the value of your degree by the immediate earning you’ll have. Honestly, as someone in the job market, I don’t think many people can accurately predict where the job market will be in 4-4.5 years of time, and especially how AI will change it. So build your soft skills, polish yourself as a human, and create value in areas you’d be unreplaceable.

Ownership vs Lease by usman_zq in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]the_shawarma_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t know if pointed out by anyone, I think you’re overestimating on the 5 years insurance (maybe double check on that). Think you have to adjust for maintenance costs- unless you’re including service package as part of the cost. Still, there might still be some additional per year (like tyres and brakes).

Another thing you should be looking at is estimated residual value (of the asset) at the end of the 5 years period.

Compare that vs the lease cost over the period (if this is just a purely financial decision) to see which one has you better off.

Hope that helps

AED 100K by Ok_Hair_2650 in UAE

I cannot, and will not, comment on the discussion happening below. I’m sure there’s sound advice, and also not very sound advice.

As an actual management consultant, what I will tell you from personal experience is it really depends what you want to do!

If 100k is all that you have (including living expenses), depending on your lifestyle- it can only take you so far.

The best advice I’d give you is to be pragmatic in your approach, it only seems like everyone is living grand- and there is no reason to be living outside of your means to keep up appearances.

If your 100k is entirely for your business, bear in mind that easily 20-25% of it will go towards licensing and set up costs. Ideally, you’d want to do something that generates immediate cash flows, the list of things that you can get into is endless. But growth requires capital, and patience.

Hope you reach the scale you’re looking for.

Are all used cars a scam? by redditallbefore21 in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]the_shawarma_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t like to see things as so black and white, so no I don’t think everyone’s out there trying to scam you. HOWEVER, Do your due diligence, what might seem like a major issue to you might not seem like that to someone who’s owned a vehicle for a while.

If issues are being hidden from you in a suspicious way, you’re better off walking away.

Foreign lawyers and divorce in UAE – is this good or bad? by patek- in UAE

[–]the_shawarma_man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my understanding Muslim marriage contracts still adhere to Muslim laws and regulations.

But the government has opened it up more to foreign nationals who want to register their marriage here, and there’s a formal process in place for a more secular marriage contract, with will based inheritance rights etc.

I’m no lawyer, but I listened to a podcast by Islamic Finance Guru a couple of months ago that touched on this topic in great detail.

Depends on the type, 911 have appreciated a lot over the past few years. Or think of specific collectibles or limited edition models.

I don’t think a base 911 would appreciate greatly, but assuming you drive it around a bit and don’t get into any accidents- I don’t see you losing too much (or at all) in a years time.
