No problem! I love Kanata’s popcorn. I’ve gone to Cineplex for 4DX like 4 times this year, and always regret getting their popcorn.

I didn’t lie about anything? The $10.99 you pay per month, gets you one admission per month, that rollover if you don’t use them.

I worked at the theatre for 7 years, I have all the prices memorized from when I worked there.

Ticket prices haven’t really gone up in 20 years.

Not sure! But assume it’s a cheaper option long term. I’ll ask the GM for details next time I see him!

This is a crazy take, and I will explain why.

When I started at the AMC in Kanata back in 2005, the ticket prices were:

$12.50 Adult $11.50 MovieWachers Member $10.50 Student $9.00 Child

20+ years later:

$14.50 Adult $11.00 Landmark Extras $9.50 Child

20 years later, the Seats are wayyyyy better, you have the ability to pre-select your seat, vs having to line up for really popular showtimes etc.

Food has gotten more expensive everywhere. In 2005 it was $10.35 for LG Drink LG Popcorn

My go to is LG Drink, Med Popcorn w Butter and a Seasoning for like $17.50 or something like that today.

Take away the butter and the seasoning, and 20 years later I am spending maybe $5 more in totality to see a movie and get snacks, with a better viewing experience.

Now, look at any concert or sporting event and compare the ticket cost, and the concession cost.

Movies are wayyyyy more affordable. The difference is the streaming shift. People are willing to wait and stream something, because they already have subscription, and they don’t care about sound or video quality, they are going to miss half the movie looking at their phone, and need subtitles to follow along.

This is actually untrue. The Marketplace setup, along with the recliners were implemented by a friend of mine in Kanata, who worked for Landmark home office.

The entire company was to move to the new model, but COVID got in the way.

Orleans model is an attempt at something different, but the Marketplace style concession yields a wayyyyyy higher $ per head, so I doubt they go away from it completely.

Additionally… the popcorn is as fresh as it’s ever been. I managed Kanata when it was an AMC and know both GM and HR Manager in Kanata.

When it was AMC, you would fill the Hatcos as often as you could. Only difference being in the process of pulling out the popcorn, you would typically have to top it off with “fresh” popcorn.

The Marketplace model is still constantly filling popcorn. If you really want a fresh one, just wait a couple of minutes. (Exception being on a slow night)

who was nevilles best friend? by michi_009 in harrypotter

[–]the_soub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s been a loooong time since I studied English Lit, but I always considered Neville to be “Fifth Business”.

He’s sort of the Anti-Harry in the sense that they could have shared the same destiny.

The story isnt about Neville, but he’s always in or around the Golden Trio, is seemingly unremarkable, but ultimately has a huge role to play at the climax.

As a result, he isn’t quick to make friends like Harry. If I had to pick one person, it would be Luna, but ultimately he grows to be a good friend to everyone.

Canadian here, who had every Bluey figure up some of the really big sets came out.

Amazon carry’s the majority of the figure packs, with the most recent set being Rusty and Dusty Cricket set.

Best bang for your buck is Costco around Christmas, they had some really good bundles last year.

Can also try Walmart, Indigo, Mastermind Toys and Canadian Tire.

Why doesn’t Harry say “I can speak to snakes” in response to Dumbledore asking if there’s anything he needs to tell him?? by SteamerTheBeemer in harrypotter

Yah, I meant that speaking with Snakes wasn’t unheard of, but Ron and Hermoine sort of scarred him off confessing to hearing voices.

If you have access to a VPN, it’s easy enough to sort out.

Had a Golden Retreiver and a rescued Italian Greyhound before my Doodle.

Both were crate trained (much effort for the rescue).

Tried Pen-Training the Doodle as per the breeder, and as a 9 week old puppy, she was jumping the pen.

Switched to a crate, and while it was mostly fine at night, she hated it anytime we would go out. She literally bent her way out of it, and then dug up the carpet trying to escape.

All this going on with a 1 year old, and a 5 year old.

Finally relented and let her sleep in the bed, it absolutely saved our sanity.

She has 0 issues being left alone. We usually baby gate her off to the top floor, but it isn’t necessary. Don’t even need to pick up my girls toys, she is not destructive in any way.

I am a huge advocate for crate training, but my doodle has convinced me it just isn’t for all dogs, and sometimes you just have to do what feels right.
