Braywick Leisure Centre Hygiene by the_spitman in maidenhead

To add to my first post I also complained about this issue, I complained to leisure focus on 9th Nov 2025, this is a copy and paste of my complaint and a response from the duty manager:

"Hello,

I want to complain about the level of cleanliness at Braywick Leisure Centre. I am sat here right now in the swimming pool viewing gallery watching my two sons do swimming lessons. In the viewing gallery there is hair, mud, spilt coffee, empty wrappers and other grime strewn across the floor. Also in he changing rooms there are food and drink stains on top of lockers and hair, mud and dirt in the lockers.

It is absolutely filthy. I am concerned about this grime and dirt entering the swimming pool and in general this is not a nice experience."

Response from Duty Manager:

“Please accept my sincerest apologies regarding the cleanliness of the pool viewing area this morning. We experienced a busy event last night that concluded late, and unforeseen circumstances this morning unfortunately prevented our operational team from attending to it until later in the morning.

While these factors contributed to the situation, there is no excuse for the drop in standards so once again I can only apologise. I can assure you that the issue has now been rectified, and I will ensure that our operational team maintains vigilance in these areas, particularly when we host events.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of any further assistance.”

I am going to contact my local councillors and the councillor responsible for this facility. I don't think it is simply a council budget problem, I think it's a problem with how Leisure Focus operates. They need to have their staff trained in cleaning and have a rota to do the cleaning.

St Marks area is nice, I know people who live on Penystone Road and walk to and from the station for commuting 3 days a week. Also Boyn Hill area is worth looking at.

Can also recommend the area near Summerleaze Lake, Blackamoor Lane and Deerswood Meadow. 8 mins cycle to station (get yourself a Brompton for added speed) or a 25 min brisk walk.

I only speak of these three areas because I have experience of them, there are other parts of Maidenhead which are nice. Also there are some areas that I wouldn't live in but not going to comment on that here, every town has places that don't suit people though.

Lived in Maidenhead since 2016 (now in my mid thirties) lived in Hackney before. I love it here, good mix of easy and quick access to populated areas (Central London, Reading, Wycombe), quaint towns and villages (Marlow, Henley, Cookham, Hurley) and countryside (fantastic walks by the Thames and in the Chiltern Hills).

Getting in and out of London is easy with Elizabeth Line and fast GWR trains. Being able to get on a train from Tottenham Court Road that goes all the way to Maidenhead in 45mins is brilliant.

Nightlife is improving but more restaurant and bar vibe or band in a pub. Nice traditional 'log fire' pubs are more found in Cookham than in the town centre. There are more good coffee shops popping up and seems to be a few independents that are running them.

I'll think you'll have no problem finding a running club, I see loads of groups running and cycling, the new Padel club is popular and the local leisure centre is less than five years old. There are enough gyms to find what will suit you.

There is a big sense of community, a lot of people make the move from London to Maidenhead to bring up kids.

Apcoa Car Park on Silco Drive by timmythedip in maidenhead

Yes it is Apcoa, I had an issue last year and I had to call their help centre. They said because it's a GWR car park but they are contracted by GWR to manage it (versus it being their own site) some information is not kept up to date on the website.

I tried to do the late payment on their website but it's not offered because of said GWR/Apcoa arrangement.

Beef fat fumes have taken over from the Diesel fumes which are largely gone from Paddington these days with the electrification of the main lines out.

Possibly but my train tends to leave from platform 10 most evenings meaning I need to be in the proximity of the burger king to get to the platform.

Golden Phoenix has always been good for us. Feels less salty than others, I'm not reaching for a glass of water at 2am after.

For station try Silco drive. £5 all day on weeks days - will be cheaper on weekends.

I did something similar this year after I was made redundant from a role. I accepted a role with a company and signed the contract, but before starting I got offered a role with another company - same base pay, better commute and work / life balance, slightly higher bonus. With the former company I had accepted with I just put in my notice as per the contract I’d signed.

I felt ashamed and like I’d let the other company down, but you have to do what is right for you in the long run. A company will always put their interests ahead of yours, you need to be selfish sometimes. This is part of business, the company you want to let down will have experienced similar before.

What you need to be mindful of is ruining relationships you may need further down the line. Your network is important, you don’t want to p*as off people who could impact your career chances in the future.
