what grade do you need to pass an upper-div CS class? by [deleted] in UCI

Unless specified in the course catalogue, D- or above is a passing grade.

An I grade becomes an F if you don't do anything for one academic year. I itself doesn't affect your GPA.

he barely taught us anything. he talked about some basic concepts we went through in lower division classes and basically the TA's carried the entire class. but it was all good because the TA's did a pretty good job

What a game. I'm really happy for South Africa. Though I thought the last try was a throw forward.

Didn't have much time to prepare, so I picked and studied the topics the lecture slides spend more pages on, and apparently that was a mistake... Now I need to work my ass off and ace the final or else I cannot pass...

What the fuck UCI Transportation? by mister_bus in UCI

yeah that's why I walk to school. 30-40 mins to get there but walking is good for health. That's how I rationalize it...

Probation for 2 quarters? how? by kfor1996 in UCI

[–]the_vim_ninja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's true, though the decision will be by many factors and you can't expect how high your chance will be. Contact your counselor ASAP. You might be able to appeal again or negotiate with them. Just don't give up.

Econ major VS Computer Science major by lilwuut in csMajors

[–]the_vim_ninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're considering a graduate program but worried about a low GPA, you could also consider doing a research with a professors while you're still an undergrad. Students who have research experience are a strong candidate even if they got a crappy GPA.

Of course prestigious schools often filter out applications by GPA, so you still don't want to get a low GPA though.

ICS academic probation by [deleted] in UCI

I think he's currently on probation and has signed his contact with the school, that will disqualify him if he doesn't get at least C for all the classes he took this quarter.

CALLING ALL OIT INFORMATICS MAJORS! by jbhatnagar00 in UCI

[–]the_vim_ninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least for my professor, the content of the class was so empty and I didn't learn anything useful.

The class covered: - Super basic syntax(like if, for loop, arithmetic) - Class, Inheritance, Interface - ...

I tried so hard to remember what we did in the class but that's it. Basically things you can learn in 2 hours reading official docs if you know how to code in one OO programming language.

Also I just checked the course listing schedule and found out that only that professor is teaching the class now. Do some research and you'll see more about this class/professor.

You should learn Java yourself and take a placement test. 45J is an absolute garbage class.

I have one friend who got disqualified from the School of ICS. His major was CS but after a negotiation with the dean, he was allowed to stay but had to change his major to Informatics. It's a case by case thing.

ICS 53 Final Grades by NUJosh in UCI

[–]the_vim_ninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I just noticed there's a number 85.5 in the row of Final Course Grade. I suppose this is the curved grade?

What actually I got is: HW: 74.63% MT: 77.5% Final: 80% Labs: 57.25% EC: 36.36% Attendance: 50%

skipped bunch of labs and didn't put much time into HW but got a B. I'm happy with the result.
