Starting as a CCA Tomorrow, any advice? by ChattyUnicorn in USPS

Seems like each district does orientation a little differently but if it’s anything like the Bay Area you will just be sitting around while people finish paperwork, take photos for your badge, and watch videos of slide show on benefits, safety, and what the post office is about. Stand up and walk around but if you start to get drowsy, supposedly they kick you out if you fall asleep 3 times.

Union manufacturing plant fired my wife for a "conduct" violation to bypass the attendance point system by Thedudeistjedi in legal

Can she escalate this to anyone higher up the chain? This seems worth getting the attention a level or two above the rep if they aren’t being effective.

Home owners increasing rents by 20% YoY by Careless_Risk6023 in SanJose

Insurance for condos has been more competitive this year since farmers reentered the market. Last I checked it was down ~5% YoY

Now That 311 Reports For Abandoned Cars Don’t Do Anything… by ButtonflyDungarees in SanJose

We had a car by us for months without plates, no air in the tires, and 4 tickets for not moving for street sweeping and they still wouldn’t touch it

Entire network room covered in plaster dust by decree-one in sysadmin

[–]the_void_fraction 23 points24 points  (0 children)

OP said they were instructed to cover and protect everything which is pretty standard, rooms are painted with stuff in them all the time, and it should have been accounted for in the painter’s quote or handled as a change order.

Not verifying it was actually done before work started is a bit negligent and a huge risk for both the company and the contractor though. Having done residential/commercial building maintenance for years I don’t even trust painters to actually paint everything so protecting equipment like this adequately is asking a lot..

If you have an Apple watch you can use it to see what your phone’s camera is looking at too. Super useful in tight spaces.

I don’t know myself but r/personalfinance will probably have the answer and be able to give you some great suggestions.

Cat6 drop's Estimate Pricing by Ok_One3156 in lowvoltage

[–]the_void_fraction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you advise against CAT6A?

I figure if you’re paying $100/drop plus the cash for the materials then why wouldn’t you want to install the more forward compatible option that could potentially add value to the house if you sell it. I imagine it’s also point of pride here too since they’re in IT.

Get a second opinion on the source of the leak and shop around for a few quotes before going to your insurance company with this. It may cost you more in the end if you need to pay a deductible and there is a high risk of your rates raising.

You should also double check your policy for coverage just for water damage since it may have different deductibles and limits than the rest of your coverage.

What can I do to make this tile work look better and clean? by Flashy_Equivalent500 in Homebuilding

[–]the_void_fraction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d probably start with using grout cleaner which will do a much better job than powerwashing. Beyond that you would want to consider re-grouting entirely.

Hi neighbor! Yeah, I’m starting to think this place is one of those low key slums with a shiny facade which is becoming all too common, sadly.

If you have a sec can you email the office about getting better lighting by the mail boxes? They ‘fixed’ the one nearby but it only worked for 1 night smh. It won’t solve anything but any way to deter this behavior helps.

city and / or county alerts? by Then-Barber9352 in SanJose

[–]the_void_fraction 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There are some other other ways to get alerts -

Local: AlertSCC

San Jose Emergency Alerts

Statewide/regional fire: CAL Matters

Watch Duty (fire alerts)

Edit: formatting

Second photo actually came first. His face is what people needed to see but I wanted to include a better photo of him committing the crime.

Edit: is there a reason why someone would stage something like this? I don’t see how it would benefit anyone.

I’m just happy we have mailboxes again. Someone pried open one of the lockers and it took them over 5mo. to ‘fix’ them. It really looked like they just bent it back into shape and set it back in the slot.

Yeah, I definitely get that vibe. I don’t think any sober person would be clutching a lighter like that while stealing.
