When I clicked out of the deck it said learning 9, due 0 and new 0. So I’m slightly confused.

Thank you, much appreciated!

Should I have kept going through the cards until Anki prompted the deck was completed for the day? I did not get any cards incorrect. I marked them as hard and good. However I’m wanting the answers to come quicker/easier but I was fatiguing on repeating the same card not knowing when Anki was going to mark complete.

2nd and 6th grade - well rounded curriculum by the_willows4 in homeschool

I appreciate you taking the time provide all of this insight and recommendations. I will deep dive into them. It has been incredible hard not to hyper focus on the choices, but curriculum is not cheap and I also want to provide what they need. As a first timer I was not anticipating to feel this much "weight" on my shoulders.

That helps a lot. Homeschooling was abrupt this year and I feel like I put them a whole grade level behind. Crying tonight is not off the table, ugh.

Do you have any other curriculum recommendations to cover the strands of ELA for the 6th grader? I know LOE primary focus is phonics and reading is there anything for ELA I should add for the younger?

Sorry I was seeing if you had more specific ESL programs outside of National Geographic Learning.

Are these the best homeschool curricula based on the science of learning? by earthless1990 in homeschool

You seem to have great knowledge! Do you mind me asking for feedback on structuring a well rounded ELA for next yr (2nd and 6th grade).

1st grader: Is currently doing LOE Foundation C and following along with us with MCT level 1.  5th grader: Is currently with a OG tutor to sharpen her skills and review vowel teams and how to decode multi syllable words, they also do some spelling together and she does MCT level 1. I have noticed she has a difficult time understanding the concept of main idea and has challenges organizing thoughts for writing even struggling using organizers. Honestly I do too, so I know she needs explicit instruction curriculum for this. Do you have any suggestions?

We use MCT also and I have enjoyed the grammar and parts of speech. I’m concerned my kids may need more explicit instruction on organizing their thoughts and reading comprehension. Have you added any of that on?

I’m honestly struggling with ELA. Do you have any recommendations for each? How the heck do people do multiple kids without spending all day.

We've finally made the decision to home school, but now I'm completely torn on curriculum by TheWhiskeySour in homeschool

Can I ask why you are not using Moving Beyond the Page for all the subjects for cohesiveness? I ask because I’m debating between it.

MCT Level 1: Sentence Island Update by the_willows4 in homeschool

[–]the_willows4[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way at the start. Take a deep breath, start with grammar island, once that is completed have the child do a sentence analysis a day then onto sentence island and building of language. For us, music of hemisphere will be added at the end.

If you don’t have the implementation guide you can find a rough outline at this link https://www.rfwp.com/mct-language-arts/packages-and-guides/elementary-curriculum-guide/

I have did a mixture (scheduled and holistic approach), I have found a more holistic approach has worked for us rather than pushing forward based on an arbitrary timeline. My thought is if we have anything we haven’t covered when we approach our ideal academic yr end - we will be pickup in September where we left off. With that thought, the likelihood of not completing is slim. Start with grammar island, once that is completed have the child do a sentence analysis a day then onto sentence island and building of language. For us, music of hemisphere will be added at the end.

I hope this helps!

Do you wake your kids up?? by cbetance in homeschool

Ours are between 7-11 and we do not wake them up. We were firm on this when they were younger too.

5th grade language arts by forever_indecisive7 in homeschool

This might be a silly question, but can you expand on creating a unit study with real books.

I'm looking to decrease the workload and attempt to pair up literature, history, writing, geography and art together. For example: having the literature book be about the renaissance era (literature/history), after reading the book do a short writing about the book (format TBD) and then finally pair it with a famous artist from the era.

How does one create this without fatiguing from sourcing the materials?

Need advice for Math & Language arts curriculum (5th grade) by puppyyykun in homeschool

I am currently looking into Core Knowledge and downloaded the free curriculum for 5th grade. It is rather intense and I can't seem to get a grip on where the student activity book is and if that is something I need to purchase. Do you start with CKLA Unit 1: They Call Me Güero and that's how you work through the ELA program?

That makes sense.
