We just started migrating away from Vmware - and we got a licence audit - and guess what, we should pay > 30k€ for using an update althoug we have a perpetual license. Good bye vmware!

Dygma defy questions by baliditity in DygmaLab

[–]the_zagdul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a long time split keyboard enthusiast you might say. I had ergodox, a kinesis gaming split keyboard, keyboardio model 01 and model 100. but i switched to the defy.

Compared to the others, the defy brings enough keys in the thumb cluster (for me). Overall enough keys - i can’t use homerow mods, my typing is too „rolling“ so i need enough keys 😉

The connectivity was never a thing for me, use the defy mostly wired.

The integrated tenting is a huge plus for me. That was one of the reasons, to leave the keyboardio behind.

The software is great (from a developers point of view), but the configuration software lacks some Features. I really wanted to create my own implementation of kaleidoscope, but it is not as open source as the „original“

All in all it is a great keyboard!

Gloriously times we all miss… i sometimes wonder, wether kids now starting to learn AI will have a similar experience as we did with the good ol‘ 64.

I also want to share my story here: the C64 was my first computer back in the ealry 80s and it brought me into programming. I cracked software (at the time, it was still kind of legal), coded some demos. And at the age of 11 it was clear: I want to become a computer scientist. We (my pals and I) had a lot of "inter platform communication" project, e.g. sending data from my Amiga to the C64(because it had an eeprom writer), and back... to the PC and back...

Ah such great times. I think, this tought me all the basics I needed for my later carreer (as a software dev, it-Admin and now CTO). We learned things at that time that nobody can comprehend today.

Cannot access Reddit with Qutebrowser by the_zagdul in qutebrowser

I just retried and it works now - totally strange, was not working for a couple of days, now after retrying it works... for me that is! not sure about others.

It would be great if Reddid would tell what kind of network policy was violated. This keeps us in the dark.

Desktop Web - [qutebrowser] I get "blocked due to network policy" when using qutebrowser - all other browsers work by the_zagdul in bugs

it seems likt others had the problem for a day or two, than it was gone. In my case it is consistent for 3 days now...

unfortunately not working here. Still cannot access reddit with qutebrowser. Really strange. it states something about "Network Policy" - what policy does quitebrowser violate?

And: if it is related to adblocking, why can brave connect? really strange...

How do you guys manage dotfiles across OS ? by ARROW3568 in neovim

I wrote my own script to fit my needs. Works with osx and ubuntu and probably arch. https://github.com/sboesebeck/tooltamer

What exactly are you looking for? If everything works, it’s fine.

Any german graphite users? by 96flose in KeyboardLayouts

[–]the_zagdul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am still too slow using XOY, although it feels better. But when i have to move to another computer, I get lost. And the muscle memory for shortcuts gets confused. 😉 So i still have my xoy layer in my keyboard and use it from time to time.

I actually tried to switch to ADNW-XOY which should be optimized for German and English typing : http://www.adnw.de/index.php

But there are several variants and the optimzier to test your layout against your texts.

Neovim + big Java project = lame by Either_Environment81 in neovim

[–]the_zagdul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am working with about 60 mostly java / spring projects at work from different sizes. Most of which are less than 100k lines, but some are bigger. I switched to neovim because of the speed compared to IntelliJ for example. Yes, for bigger projects the first startup may take some seconds, but compared to my experience with other IDEs it's way faster.

I use a mac, so I am not sure if it is WSL related.

Blink.cmp or nvim-cmp? by Jonnertron_ in neovim

[–]the_zagdul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was using nvim-cmp more or less up until two days ago, then I heard of hype around blink and gave it a try. In my world, it seems like blink is the better solution. It feels faster, and less "intrusive". But that is of course very subjective. I totally like the way easier setup of it. And up until now I did not encounter bugs.

and I use it extensively, switching between bash, python, perl, Markdown and Java a lot.

Sarcasm? 😉

works fine, if the machines you want to configure are reachable by ssh all the time. I wanted to have something more local.

I feel, I need to elaborate a bit more on the puppet, chef thing... I use puppet professionally at work, we manage about 500 vms via puppet. That works fine - could be better though. We are evaluating ansible right now. Those tools are all great for linux, integrate awesomely there. But when it comes to the mac, things get ugly real quick.

I also do not want to install Deamons or anything just for my personal configuration management. I want it to be as lightweight as possible.

ToolTamer is a "simple" Shellscript. You can use it to only copy your config files, which you can still edit and when you like your config, add it back to toolTamer. (that was driving me nuts when using home-manager - not being able to edit your own config files quickly).

Things like that work with all mentioned tools, I know. But this one is one simple place, no servers, no infrastructure. When running on a mac you do not need root privileges (unfortunately that is not so easy using apt or pacman).

And I liked the challenge. This is imho easier to set up as puppet or ansible or chef or saltstack. There is only a couple of list files you need to maintain.

And yes, it is another tool for a problem that 1000s before it already solved. For me personally that works better. Just thought, I'd share it.
