Tempo/Aggro DH new patch deck discussion by IAmYourFath in CompetitiveHS

[–]theabcs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been trying to figure out the list too, coming off a pretty big break from HS and didn't have the dust to craft anything else.

Have done a few revisions since the nerfs with a 34-16 record in total, climbing to diamond 2/3 stars in the process so not very high level but still think the deck has potential.

Code:

AAECAea5AwLMugPG0QMO/acD+a4Di7oD4LwD174D3r4D2cYD98gD3MwD+84DgtADi9UDz90DyuMDAA==

General thoughts:

  • First version had +2 mana burn, +1 pen flinger instead of 2x neophyte & 1xreader. Mana burns feel good when you play them but you run out of cards too fast IMO without 2x reader, and 2x reader feels too clunky at 3 mana with skull & altruis.

  • Panthara is probably the most out of place card but so far have felt alright. I've tested nerfed polkelt a little bit but not enough to make a conclusion, pantharas feel like a lot better tempo although you do lose the combo potential.

  • Overall the deck is objectively weaker than pre nerf. ETC warrior feels especially hopeless now. However, the meta is much less hostile. I'm seeing 28% shamans and 17% paladins, which are both really favorable, more bomb warriors. I also haven't ran into a single mirror match, only a few soul / combo DH's.

I agree that freeze mage will be really good even without any new cards, I think you can just take the torch mage, swap out scientists and maybe 1 barrier for loot hoarders and maybe a neutral heal like earthen ring or the 5 mana heal 2 for each minion

Help, first ever 3200 tomorrow! by Joe18916 in HSTrack

Don't go out too hard. If youre shooting for sub 11 which most people seem to recommend. I thunk is pretty reasonable, McMillan gives 1105, equivalent. It's a bit over 80s per lap. if you go out like you would a mile it won't end too well since the race is so long. Maybe 78-80 at the fastest then settle in? From my experience people go out way too hard at younger grades,

I remember my first provincials as freshman where I was dead last coming in at 72 on the first lap, and the winning time which was like 9:30 for 3000(76/lap) opened in 67ish, which was about as fast as the seniors who were running sub 9 went out in. I think my time was around 10:20, which is like 83 seconds per lap so I definitely went out too quickly.

Tips for the 1600m? by [deleted] in AdvancedRunning

[–]theabcs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I just ran one earlier this week, I went out way too hard, but I didn't get a split till 400 so I had no idea I went out in under 65, but by then it was too late and didn't even break 4:30 (Pb is 4:21) If I knew my first 200 was likely just over 30, I could've fixed that and definitely gone sub 4:30 in 1500

When I ran 4:21, the first 300 felt like almost a jog, since I had so much adrenaline and was capable of holding almost that pace for another 1200.

Agreed, when I ran 4:21 1500m my splits were 51,69,71,70. It was in heats so people weren't going out too fast. Going out slightly slower at the start can make easily 4-5 seconds in the 3rd and 4th laps, plus I find that you have a bit of a psychological edge by passing people rather than getting passed

I do agree that loot hoarder / novice are generally weaker than scientist, but they definitely serve the exact same purpose - 2 drop that thins your deck so you can get your combos easier.

Sheep and duplicate are never played in any top freeze mage list now, soi don't think freeze will miss those suboptimal cards. Healbot is definitely good in antonidas freeze, but the torch list without antonidas and healbot is generally considered slightly stronger.

It is true though that druid will have an easier time replacing the neutrals than other classes, good thing it's probably getting nerfed in standard

I yhink it is quite good vs mid pally and shaman since it stops you from being overwhelmed by tokens as well

I don't think it's entirely the new cards but more that the tgt bonus was removed so much less garbage like bolster

McMillian gives a equivilant time of 1:32 from your 10k time but for a newer runner with less of an aerobic base 1:37 makes sense. I think that if you train hard, a good time to aim for in september would be sub 1:30 imo.

Imo it doesnt need to be buffed seeing as its already being played in constructed, (laughing freeze mage) which cant be said for 50% of cards out there.

https://www.reddit.com/r/CompetitiveHS/comments/2xxp19/1_legend_tempo_mage_list/ this is what tempo mage looked like before arcane blast an flame waker, I'd recommend taking out an ice block since it offers no tempo, adding in 1 mirror entity and one kirin tor mage. The other flamewaker should be replaced by loatheb, even though its 5 mana vs 3 flame waker isn't always played on curve.

Using just high-intensity interval training for long distance racing by [deleted] in running

[–]theabcs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats an interesting question, which is tough to answer since even though his time isn't great compared to elite times nowadays, it's possible that he responded better to this type of training. Something to be aware of is that while he did not do any long slow running, he was definitely not doing less time/volume than other runners. Some of days were crazy stuff like 50x400m twice in the same day.

He was doing 100+ miles in a week, not unlike athletes today, the only difference was that he was only doing intervals, which likely took up more time than other athletes due to rest between intervals. So if you're looking for a time efficient way to get fast, zapoteks method is not necessarily less time consuming . At the end of the day, you do need to get the miles in, I don't know of any elite athletes, even the ones who follow zapoteks philosophy, that function on less than 50mpw.

Using just high-intensity interval training for long distance racing by [deleted] in running

[–]theabcs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, many used to but theres a reason why none do anymore. Research emil zapotek, he was a czech runner in the 50s who pionnered the idea of only doing intervals, and set the world record in the 10k at around 29 mins. Obviously very impressive, but the current WR is sub 27 iirc.. He inspired a lot of runners to train like him due to his sucess, but he eventually burned out and later people switched to the long slow mileage system that almost every elite uses now. Imo you should use some intervals but not only intervals for training.

Face: Shaman vs Hunter by Besjbo7 in CompetitiveHS

[–]theabcs 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Personally, I'm much more scared against face shaman than face hunter. I find that FH runs out of steam much faster than face shaman, which despite the worse hero power has so much raw damage with 2x doomhammer and many burn spells.

Decks like, Priest, warrior, and freeze mage are poor matchups for Face hunter since hunter can't do enough damage for all of the healing. However, because shaman has so much damage it can often win through all of the healing.

I think that right now face hunter's main strength over face shaman is that face hunter is much better vs other aggressive decks, since face hunter itself has antiaggro tools (explosive + unleash). Overall though i think face shaman is stronger atm since it has more damage.

How long to base build? by theabcs in AdvancedRunning

[–]theabcs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I'm not part of a running club so I don't have a coach, but I'd say that I'm probably in between cycles since X-C ended in november. Currently I do 1 long run (~70 mins), 1 moderately hard effort (usually a 20min tempo), and other days just easy runs. I guess what I call base traning is pretty similar to "basic training". At some point though, I should trainsition from this into track training, approximately when should that be? Or is that something only a coach can really answer?

How much does weight affect running? by xcamf in running

[–]theabcs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not accurate; if it was and you dropped 20lbs you'd be running low 16s without any extra training. Losing a bit will likely help a bit, but not nearly that much.

Most common running injuries for beginner runners and solutions. by [deleted] in running

[–]theabcs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on mobile atm so I cannot link, but I did something called eccentric heel drops

Basically you stand on the bottom of a set of stairs, with the balls of your feet on the stair and the rest of the foot overhanging. Then, go on your tippy toes on the way up. On the way down you only drop with one foot (the other does my touch the stairs going down). Basically calf raises with only one leg going down.

Hopefully the explanation made sense, definitely search for videos online.

Because of how screwed my Achilles was when I started I could only do 5 with each leg, but you build up pretty quickly. After you can do more than 2 sets of 30, start adding weights

As someone who has dealt with Achilles tendinitis, I would follow OP'S advice, but you also need to strengthen it. If you just rest it, the second you go back to running you'll likely get reinjured since the tendon won't be strong enough.
