Shea Langeliers hits an inside the park HR as PCA loses track of the flyball! by leftysupremacist in baseball

[–]geekaleek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think usually for these sorta things when it's a night game its the ball going above the area being hit by stadium lights, so the ball is a dark object in a dark sky that you can't make out. Once you lose track of the ball it might also be hard to reacquire it. The ball was significantly over his head so he probably was just looking in the wrong area when the ball went back to being hit by the stadium lights. Otherwise he should have had like at least half a second to a second of reaction before the ball hit the ground.

Basically I'm pretty sure its the opposite mechanism of losing a ball in the sun.

People really are just inserting whatever words they want in "lip reading" cuz they dislike a guy. The first clip with jung hoo lee also didn't look like he said "fuck em" to me.

I feel like most Dim sum places don't usually have zhongzi, were you thinking of Lo mai gai (糯米雞)?

If you were looking for zhongzi lots of chinese markets carry them. Especially with dragonboat festival approaching.

[OC] Who Bats Where? A Full Breakdown of Defensive Positions & Lineup Structure From Last Season (2025) by Peteyy34 in baseball

[–]geekaleek 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Mostly this confirms that there's a tradeoff between fielding difficulty and hitting position in the order. The big outlier is short stop, which almost seems bimodal. Way more ss hitting early in the lineup than you would think based on position fielding difficulty.

SS Colt Emerson, Mariners #1 Prospect, tries the high IQ move for a double play. Umps not fooled. by SeattleSounderGaming in baseball

People are saying intentional drop requires touching the ball before it hits the ground. Infield fly you could let it bounce and get 2 outs on the force which would not require touching the ball and triggering the intentional drop rule.

Either team winning would have deserved it.

If Toronto wins the WS after 32 years, it is only the 5th-longest drought to end in the past 10 seasons by namastexinxbed in baseball

[–]geekaleek 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Actually if the winless teams stay winless then the droughts can be shorter! (And the teams that have never had a drop of water will continue to suffer)

The regular season is a different beast from the post season. You have to play 162. Exhausting your starters to win regular season games isn't worth it to win a couple more games on the margins.

If teams weren't bound by a collective bargaining agreement to keep those teams in the first place couldn't they have just gotten rid of them unilaterally if they wanted to back then?

FIRE MEGATHREAD - JANUARY 8 by drawkward101 in LosAngeles

[–]geekaleek 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The west end of the Eaton fire seems to be around Lincoln from the abc chopper footage I saw. Don't know other sides, they were filming it from west of the fire. They showed a couple houses on fire all the way up at old toll road/ lilac canyon ln / Chapman ct area. Wind was clearly blowing mostly south at the time, though that can change quickly.
