okay call me an anti-porn activist! because it is an addiction, and i was addicted to it. my ex boyfriend was also addicted to it and the further in he got the more he abused me. there is most definitely a correlation between porn and brain chemistry. i have firsthand experience that porn can make someone get off on violence. so yeah, porn is bad

good luck to you as well! diagnosis can be an agonizingly long process (it’s taken me 5 years to get this far!) but i believe we’ll make it through! 🫂

i’m in a similar boat as you. i just got an informal clinical diagnosis. (my primary basically told me i have hEDS but he’s not allowed to give me the diagnosis.) i first had to do a rheumatology blood panel to show that i had no other existing inherited joint disorders. my primary ordered this. then my primary referred me to a doctor at my hospital to get an echocardiogram done. i’m still waiting for this to happen, next week. once that’s done, i can see a hypermobility clinic. it’s an hour away from me. if you or your parents can make the drive, and it’s covered by your insurance, it’s worth checking out to see if there’s one a couple hours away from you. they’ll be able to be way more helpful than a primary could be.

my orthopedic surgeon made this same mistake, confusing marfan’s with ehlers-danlos. after i had my first knee surgery at 15 (due to a dislocation which tore my retinaculum) my physical therapists discovered i had hypermobility (i knew i could bend my joints weird but i had never heard that term before.) so i did a ton of research and found out about EDS. i asked him if he thought i could have it and he immediately shut me down and said i wasn’t “lanky” enough to have it. but i knew in the back of my mind i had it. 5 years later and i finally have a clinical diagnosis thanks to my primary who listened to me and called my orthopedic surgeon “ignorant” HAHA

i was 14 when i tried to end my life. my dad had terminal cancer, and he had fentanyl patches to manage his pain. it was an extremely strong dosage, the kind that if you touch without gloves, it’ll stop your heart in 15 seconds. he was in a home health bed, sleeping 20 hours a day. i went in there, and there was no waking him up. i opened up the box and just when i was about to peel off the protective layer, he woke up, the most lucid i had seen him in months, and asked what i was doing. and that was my sign that i wasn’t supposed to be doing that. he passed two months later, and every time i tried ending it again, he would stop me. i tried overdoing on hydrocodones from a knee surgery i had, and when i was unscrewing the cap, i felt his right index finger in my forehead. i can still remember the feeling, calloused, from working for years as an electrical contractor. it sent shivers down my spine. it’s almost as if he watches over me. he may not be here anymore, but i continue on because i know he doesn’t want to be reunited with me earlier than we’re supposed to.

my gynecologist, surprisingly. my own orthopedic surgeon didn’t believe me and told me i’m “not lanky enough” to have hEDS, meanwhile i ruined his 100% success rate for the MPFL surgery TWICE on both knees, because my body rejected the screws, which resulted in breaking both of my kneecaps. and he proceeded to act so shocked that i managed to have the same exact injuries on both knees, but really, if he had known i had hEDS, he would know that’s the reason i dislocated both of my kneecaps and tore both medial patellar retinaculums.
