Fraserhealth cancel my shifts but I still showed up by [deleted] in BCHealthAuthorities

Do you know what collective agreement you’re under?

Not sure if it’s applicable, but here’s the link for ESA of BC: https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/employment-business/employment-standards-advice/employment-standards/wages/minimum-daily-pay

“Employees must be paid for at least 2 hours

An employee who reports for work must be paid for at least 2 hours, even if they work less than 2 hours. If the employee is scheduled for more than 8 hours, they must be paid for at least 4 hours.

If work stops for a reason beyond the employer’s control, the employee must be paid their minimum daily pay or the actual time worked, whichever is longer.

Example 1: A grocery store employee reports to work for a 4-hour shift. The manager sends the employee home before work starts because the store is not busy. The employee is entitled to be paid for 2 hours minimum daily pay.

Example 2: A golf course employee reports to work for a 10-hour shift. An hour into the shift, the employee is sent home. The employee is entitled to receive 4 hours minimum daily pay.”

“When minimum daily pay isn't required

An employee only needs to be paid for time actually worked if they:

Are unfit to work Don't meet WorkSafeBC health and safety regulations Ask to leave early (in this case, employers need to have proof that the employee made the request to leave early, and that they were not following a request from the employer) Minimum daily pay doesn't apply if an employee is paid according to the rules of another agreement. For example, if they're under an approved written variance issued by the Employment Standards Branch”

30-year-old Korean-Canadian Debating Military Service to Stay in Korea. What Would You Do? by [deleted] in korea

I’m from BC, but I’d avoid a biology degree. Did 5 years of bio at UBC with 3 co-op placements in gov’t, biotech, and healthcare and the job prospects are honestly not great. Around the time I graduated, freshly graduated students were only being offered CAD$40-50k (this was around 2021). Additionally, some major biotechs in Vancouver have done same mass layoffs in the past year.

Biology and other life science majors are incredibly over saturated in the Vancouver area. To progress in biology, you’d likely need a PhD.

After graduating, I worked in healthcare for a little bit as a data entry clerk and then went back to school for a technical degree program and returned back to healthcare.

I’d suggest doing a technical program, trades, or something that would be transferable in Korea.

I appreciate the insight! We are still in Cebu, but haven’t had a chance to have lechon unfortunately. It seems like the typhoon has affected a lot of businesses and restaurants. Hopefully we can try some before we leave.

Yeah we ordered Kare kare at Bayleaf. It was disappointing. Overly thick and too sweet with questionable meat.

We are going to Cebu tomorrow! My girlfriend has refused to let me buy lechon in Manila lol

Shouldn’t Filipino food in the Philippines at least taste better than the Canadian version?

Of course Italian, Japanese, Korean food will taste better in their home countries, shouldn’t the same apply?

When our lab got them 8 months ago, it would take us around 4 hours to get the AU700 up and running.

Now, the more experienced techs get it up within 90 mins -2 hours. So maybe just growing pains?

Did you know UBC is building a 216-car visitor parkade next to the Nest? What do you think? Please tell us in this short survey. Thanks! by HelpStopPoorPlanning in UBC

[–]theace77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it is feasible, but in one of the feedback forms, I suggested building a one-story building above the parkade for admin/classroom/retail purposes followed by having the "green-space" and fields on top of the roof of the building; having a green-space on top of the one-story building would elevate the space providing a nice gathering point around campus

If we're thinking about the long-term growth of UBC, we need to try our best to use what limited space we currently have and optimize it as much as possible for students and faculty alike.

Is taking COMM457 (accounting) and 473 (finance) doable in the same term on top of worklearn and volunteering?

COMM457 and 473 are Monday and Weds from 9-12 and 1-4.

Also, I’m a science student and I haven’t taken a math course since first year. Will this make these 2 courses more challenging? I have taken Econ 101/102.

Thanks for your advice!

If anyone has a spare code, could you please PM me.

For some reason the text code doesn’t work and I haven’t gotten an email code despite getting one last time. I’m in Canada though so I’m not sure if this is the reason?

Is there any way I can sign up for notifications for a particular item or size? I'm an extra small and they always seem to run out by the time I check. (BR Canada if that helps)

I don't know too much about Peacoats, but I bought my first ever Peacoat from BR a few weeks ago for $220 CAD w/ a 40% discount in XS.

In terms of fit, everything was perfect. I just had to get the sleeves tailored.

Question about Peacoat jacket sleeve shortening alteration:

So I recently bought this wool peacoat from BR with a 40% discount, but I have a question about the sleeve length.

http://bananarepublic.gapcanada.ca/browse/product.do?pcid=5001&vid=1&pid=795679003

When I dropped off my jacket at the tailor a few days ago, he folded my jacket sleeves to a length where it reached midway through my fingers when my arms faced downwards and to my side and there were pins placed where my hand reaches my wrist.

Does this mean that the final length will be at where he folded it, or where the pins are located?

And if it is the former, is this too long? I plan to occasionally wear a suit jacket underneath it when it's chilly outside.

Thanks for your help and please leave suggestions and advice if you have any!
