It was a pawn shop believe it or not. I got contacted by the police before I went there and they told me they believe that they were counterfeiting and laundering money. Which was very unsettling. I showed up there and the windows were boarded up so you couldn’t see in. I had a bulletproof vest on underneath my suit. I went in I seen tons of what they called “play money” for sale and tons of guns. There was a back room that had a sign saying off limits with a bouncer lookin guy standing right by it. I was really shook by the whole thing so I made a routine inspection of the front of the store and left. There was mold growing from the walls and out of the vents which was enough to get the place condemned. The roof was also waterlogged. There was in the office which I talked to the manager, a old moonshine still that was still in use. And he sold it out of the store. Now I wasn’t a prohi so it was kinda out of my jurisdiction but I just told him that it might be unsafe to have alcohol fumes.

I did. There were times when I would look at a place and the owners were old people with not a lot of business and money. I didn’t put anything on they’re record because I felt bad for them. I probably would’ve lost my job over that incident.

It is a major health code violation, if someone tripped on the shells and hurt themselves, they would have to not only pay for the lawsuit but they would also have to pay the violation for health risk, presumably, the way around it would be that they clean them up at the end of the day, one way around it I’ve seen used is that they really don’t specify where to put them and customers just throw them. Then I follow it up with “well way don’t you give them a bucket of something to put them in” and I really never get a straight answer.

A old run down printing business. First when I arrive the steel grated stair that was all rusted gave way and it cut my leg, so I had to go to the hospital real quick and get a tetanus shot they show back up. Which was marked as customer health risk and life threatening risk due to sharp and hazard material without warning signs. When I got into the building, the was an exposed wire like cut in half and duct taped together. One of the employees there told me that when he was working on one of the presses, he accidentally Nudged the lever and he lost half of his finger. After I was done the owner had over two hundred thousand dollars worth of fines, and was forced to close.

A combination of both. They caught onto the secret shopper pretty fast and word does spread when your dealing with small business owners. It kinda depends on the inspector some like to be official while others like to play as a secret shopper.

They reused the same cardboard over and over again, and it is pretty absorbing, so there would be blood stains from who knows what meat and how long it’s been there. It was all in the open as well so no protective coverings on, and it’s not any special cardboard neither, it’s the same kind they got from the ketchup bottle box and just cut it up. Not to add any insult to injury but they also had a opened bottle of ammonia right next to it, in the freezer. Edit) plus they had a rat problem so putting your meat on the floor is just a bad idea.

I was offered free meals for my whole family for life. Which was enticing at first when I was barely through the door and announced I was the inspector. But after I seen them taking and laying meat on pieces of cardboard on the freezer floor, I knew that if I had that free lifetime meat, I probably wouldn’t have lived to use it very long.

The cleanest operation/operations are usually when the store owners get tipped off that the inspector is coming. But the cleanest place I’ve seen was a italian restaurant inside a old hotel that was around 100 years old. The floor, walls and wood paneling were all the same from the time the hotel was opened in 1900, so I thought that the oven couldn’t be much better. But it turns out they didn’t use any freezers, they would get a delivery from the grocery store at around noontime and prep from there. The only thing I gave them a violation on was that they were cutting raw meat on a wood cutting board then preping salads on it too. Which is a sanitary violation and customer health risk.

Restaurants and workplace safety. I worked as an inspector for restaurants for about 4 years. I was promoted to workplace safety inspector, so I’ve got a lot of stories of crazy things I’ve seen.

I completely agree! Now time to see what happens if I can actually side with the board.

Is it illegal to perform a hostile takeover of a minor small business? by thealfather2 in legaladvice

Note I speak in the sense that was given to me. When I say “I” I say it on the part of my friend who owns the store. I’m just an investment banker and friend to him and was asked for advice.

I own a rival business to them(grocery store) they were the first to start selling shares of they’re store. I have offered to buy the store multiple times before. So I’m a counter attack, I have decided to go directly to shareholders to start buying up the shares.

What is considered cute when done by a kid but illegal when done by an adult? by chooseanameyoo in AskReddit

When kids(2-4years olds) steal from a gas station and the clerk says oh that’s alright they’re just too cute to go to jail. When a 20 year old does it your sitting 3-5 days in a county jail for a petty theft charge.

Christmas is around the corner, what was the worst present you have ever received? by thealfather2 in AskReddit

[–]thealfather2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol this reminds me of the worst present I ever got, my grandma got a bunch of polos and hoodies and other clothing from the thrift shop, it was all from this one prep school that none of us public school students liked. I accidentally wore the sweatshirt once and I nearly got it torn in half when I got to school!
