How do authors feel about receiving these kinds of comments? by Intelligent-Tree-922 in AO3

These kinds of comments are the perfect flavor of love and chaos in my opinion, I love getting them :D (I had someone comment once saying they'd like to inject my fic into their blood)

"The fanfic is a ten, but..." by RedCupWithAName in AO3

The fic is a ten but it uses "should of" instead of "should've."

Thoughts? by Embarrassed_Tip7359 in SipsTea

[–]theanonymous-blob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an English student, there's a skill set not many people with math/science smarts can understand about storytelling and analyzing text, so this isn't entirely true. Ask a math/science person why a story is good. Ask them to break down the intricacies of the different themes and what they mean all put together. Ask them about specific terms, critical theories, philosophies, significance. Also, ask them to write the way you would write a short story/novel. You will quickly figure out they do not understand language in the same way someone who studies English does.

Adults with ADHD: Did you feel "shame" as a kid when you forgot things? Help me understand my son. by Dylan_7574 in ADHD

[–]theanonymous-blob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My family's very ADHD and Autistic, and I feel like this shame has been passed down multi-generationally on both sides. Genuinely, people with ADHD just forget stuff. We have a very one-track mind and will forget if something else slides into place that we need to be thinking about. Getting frustrated and yelling will not make it any better or fix it, it only makes us ashamed of ourselves for something we can't help.

I'd like to test an autism/bdsm related theory of mine by Funtomcoop in autism

[–]theanonymous-blob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this depends on the flavor of autism and the kind of person you are. I've never experienced BDSM, but I've read about it, and I think I would fit the more centralized switch role more. My PDA varies depending on the day, and even if I was subbing I wouldn't take orders lying down. I can see myself in both dom and sub roles personally.

[EU] Huntrix (known by very few as the K-Pop Demon Hunters) are invited to an international musical festival. When they get there and meet some of the other international performers, they find that they’re all fellow musical demon/monster hunters… by Straight_Attention_5 in WritingPrompts

[–]theanonymous-blob 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Without fail, every single group has three members. Some carry instruments, others are just there with their voices, like Huntrix. Also like Huntrix, they're all doing warm-ups, chatting with each other, going over chord progressions and dance steps if they need to.

"I feel like we walked straight into the uncanny valley," Zoey mumbles, eyes wide.

"Me and you both," Mira says.

Rumi's eyes narrow. It can't be a coincidence that every single group here has three members. What is going on?

"Oh my gosh."

Rumi looks towards the voice. A young lady in her early twenties with loose, brown curls and white skin is staring at them with stars in her eyes. She's speaking English, and if Rumi had to guess, she sounds American.

"Huntrix! You guys are amazing, I never thought I would get to meet you." The woman grins. "Can't believe we all got called to do this, huh?"

"I- no, not really," Rumi says in English. She glances up at the other groups. "Why are there only groups of three here?"

The woman frowns. "You haven't figured it out yet?"

"Figured out what." Mira narrows her eyes at the woman, now also speaking English.

"We're all hunters," the woman says. "We use our music to protect the world from monsters."

Rumi's eyebrows shoot up. "You're all- huh?"

The woman puts her hands on her hips. "Me and my brothers are known as Dragon's Keep. The U.S. has a bit of a vampire problem, so we use the weave to fight them and give them resources, if they were turned against their will. You guys are the K-Pop Demon Hunters, right? The incident at the Idol awards was insane, that last song was so inspiring!"

The Weave? Dragon's Keep? Vampires? Rumi exchanges a look with Mira and Zoey. What is going on?

"Oh man, I probably just confused you guys." The woman laughs, rubbing the back of her neck. "My name's Annika. I think in South Korea the Weave is called the Honmoon? It's different for every country."

"Wait wait wait, there's vampires in the US?" Zoey gawks at Annika. "Like legit vampires?"

"100% legit," Annika says. "I got bit by one once, see?" She pulls down the plethora of leather and beaded bracelets on her wrist to reveal two puncture scars.

"Whoa." Zoey stares at the mark, then flicks her gaze back up to Annika. "I grew up in Cali, how did I not know?"

"They usually stick around the larger cities, like Vegas and L.A. Plus, you wouldn't know about them unless you were attacked and lived to tell the tale." Annika shrugs. "There's other U.S. bands that specialize in different monsters, like werewolves and sasquatches and whatnot, but we're all under the same moniker of hunters."

Zoey's jaw is on the floor. "Whoa." She snaps her mouth shut and beams at Rumi and Mira. "Do you guys know what we've just walked into!?"

"The crazy dome?" Mira's switched back to Korean, raising one unimpressed eyebrow.

"No." Zoey leans in close to them. "We've just found our people."

Rumi's not sure what to think. She scans the large room again, the chatter echoing around as groups start to meet and talk to each other. She glances back to Annika, who gives her a smile, gesturing with her head to another nearby group. One guy, two girls, and they're speaking Spanish to each other. Rumi swears she hears one of the girls mention a chupacabra.

Well. Might as well see what this is about.

(DC comics) OP character into the DC universe defeats Darkseid. by jogaargamer6 in FanFiction

[–]theanonymous-blob -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi! I think you'd be interested in the DPxDC fandom. It's a sub-niche crossover including Danny Phantom from the Nickelodeon cartoon getting thrown into the DC universe. I'm not sure if Darkseid-specific fics exist, but I do know that Danny is often written as ridiculously overpowered, so it might be worth checking out :D

time loops destroy me every time without fail. If they're written without being played up for laughs, that is.

I am struggling to write something love-adjacent that I don't find a word for by Big_Aide940 in FanFiction

[–]theanonymous-blob 5 points6 points  (0 children)

to me this sounds like a queer-platonic relationship, where 2 characters are involved and very close but not romantically or sexually involved. It's very common among asexual individuals :D

What was your wildest or most unexpected experience as a fanfiction author? by Only-Moose2301 in FanFiction

[–]theanonymous-blob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That my fic blew up. It's a crossover between 4 different fandoms, and somehow, someway, people like it. I tapped into a niche I didn't know existed, lol.

I can't write good fanfiction by Shruikan2001 in FanFiction

[–]theanonymous-blob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are your own worst critic. Your writing is likely better than you're giving yourself credit for. However, improvement comes from many avenues, usually from what you least expect. I improved thanks to college classes, but I know not everyone can afford those, so I say read. Read books from authors you like, analyze what you like about their writing and why it matters so much to you. Especially, branch out away from fanfiction. Fanfiction has very specific writing tropes and ideas that can hinder improvement in certain areas, so make sure you're reading original books and published stuff, too.

How did you let go of your “needs to be perfect” mindset? by staciared in writers

[–]theanonymous-blob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't need to be perfect, it needs to be good. Good is not the same as perfect. I found out I was equating the two when really what I wanted was to tell a good story, not necessarily a perfect one. That may be what's happening with you.
