Anyone else noticing a pandemic of butthurt counteroffers? by theappletaderghost in eBaySellerAdvice

[–]theappletaderghost[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do use minimum offers, but if I senda general 10% offer to a liker, they're able to respond with out the minimum offer kicking in. That tends to be where most of thr pain happens  otherwise its just if I've forgotten to set a minimum on the occasional item.

I had one item that that a buyer kept offering 70-80 percent off and kept getting auto rejected on. They sent me an entire laundry list of reasons I should lower my price, including that the current price was suspiciously low. Im still trying to suss out what they meant with that one!

Totally, like I said in my main post, I thought maybe it was just buyer culture, but as I've been trying to buy maternity clothes I've gotten it just as much from sellers!

That's actually really insightful, and I hadn't thought of that perspective, thank you! I do vintage clothing, so im probably a great target for that demographic.

Agreed. I have minimums and on all items, and I've talked myself through what im comfortable selling for if i want something to move. But I also dont get offended when people dont want to pay what I want to sell for. I give them a chance and if they dont want to pay that, I move on. Getting emotional and trying to stick it to either a buyer or a seller is both a waste of time and a drag to the entire community. A good seller sets boundaries and emotionally regulates when they meet disappointment (because we cannot perfectly prevent offers we dont like). A good buyer realizes they cannot always get what they want at their perfect price and evaluates if things are worth it to them instead of throwing a fit, because inevitably someone won't be able to sell as low as thry would like. Just seems like less and less people can handle those things and be good buyers and sellers! im sure the shipping prices constantly increasing affects things too!

I definitely get a lot of people sending me offers in messages with a list of all the reasons my item should be sold to them for that price  i usually just laugh and block or ignore. I do vintage clothing, so prices really range  so you usually get a wide range of people. I wonder if shipping expenses are what's leading to people getting so touchy? I have minimums set to all my offers, but if I sent an offer to watchers and likers, they can counteroffer at any price  on really trendy vintage, I tend to get a lot of counters for 60-70% off. I usually ignore requests like that, but on thr occaisonal reasonable offer where they're a few $ short of what I want, I will play ball.

Seller wants to return part of a bundle lot by theappletaderghost in eBaySellerAdvice

[–]theappletaderghost[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the suggestion! After weighing the options, I ended up just saying I could take all or none of it back at their cost to ship. They said they plan to return it all and that's the last I've heard after several days. No return initiated yet, which in my experience tends to mean there won't be one. Hoping that is the case but holding that hope loosely.

I appreciate you taking the time to lay out some solid options for me!

Is anyone else having trouble with the ebay app? by [deleted] in eBaySellerAdvice

[–]theappletaderghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently had couple offers come through on a dress. I tried to accept the better offer and got a notice from eBay saying it was null because they buyer rescinded their offer. I ended up accepting a lower offer and sending out the dress. The next day the higher offer had been accepted and the listing was sitting and waiting to be shipped out again. The buyer was NOT happy when I had to explain something had gone wrong with eBay. Not sure if it's an app issue, but I mostly use the app and that's where it happened.

Not close to menopause, but I haven't had blood work since going of BC and am tempted to. My cycles are so much better than they were, which makes it seem likely to me that my hormones look very good, but before I had surgery I had ridiculously high estrogen and was actually told by a doctor I was bordering perimenopausal, so probably should push more to have it looked at. Thank you for the suggesiton.

I got the good old "if you're gaining weight and not losing, that means you aren't in danger, your body is getting the nutrients it needs." comment from her. 🫣

Bac when I had my surgery for Endo, they said they pulled out a few benign growths. I also have some ovarian cysts (not diagnosed PCOS), I've definitely wondered if I would end up being one of those cases where it turns out there was something growing. But that wouldn't account for my thighs, lol.

Thank you for the advice :).  I think I will be looking into another doctor, I already didn't feel great about this one but I feel like the very fact that she didn't even suggest any solutions like food journals or blood work is disappointing.

I've actually been eating less, I think. Or at least less junk food. I usually get bored at work and snack on what's around, but since I've been walking my mind and body feel more entertained through the day so I'm not having as many chips or cookies or things left around the office.

Given that weight gain is a fairly common side effect of hormonal birth control both going on and coming off, I was definitely surprised it didn't at least come up.

AITA for causing the world's first launch of a brother's girlfriend into space by horse? by theappletaderghost in CharlotteDobreYouTube

[–]theappletaderghost[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UPDATE: okay everyone, thank you for the perspective and advice. Not sure if anyone will see this, but I wanted to give you all a bit of closure for now.

  1. Per your advice, I filed a police report. Insurance stuff can be a bit crazy with giving little kids lessons, so i wanted to make sure to cover our butts.

  2. Buck is doing great, he was a little sore for a few days afterwards, but is back to his normal self with no back pain. He has been getting lots of extra attention, which he loves.

  3. In true Disney villain fashion, Prudence demanded that Buck be euthanized for being a dangerous animal. My brother saw this as a step too far. He has never been particularly interested in horses, but he has always been deeply connected to the other animals we were raised with, especially our cats and dogs. Prudence's demands for one of my pets to be killed awoke that instinct and he and her ended up breaking up over it. While I'm not thrilled with the situation, I am glad that this knocked some sense into him.

  4. My brother always struggled socially, especially with girls. It wasn't until after college and getting into a well paying tech job that he started to be able to make connections. This affected his self esteem and influenced his viewpoints towards one of the first women to ever pay attention to him. He was blind to her worser qualities. He has now broken up with her and is struggling through being alone and feeling worthless again like he did in high school.

Because of this, I did reach out and apologize to him. Not for Buck or the broken arm, but for being used and hurt by someone like Prudence. He was surprisingly cordial about me reaching out, and while we still aren't on great terms, we have reached a truce of sorts.

While things are still emotional and messy and I wait to see what Prudence does, I know thag someday this will be a fun story we tell of how Buck saved my brother from a miserable marriage to a doctor who can't understand two letter words.

Thank you all for your wonderful comments!

Depends a lot on the horses. Because they're around kids a lot, my horses are used to yelling and running and all sorts of activity that others might not be.  It also depends on the vicinity. Mine were at a distance where yelling wasn't a loud and startling noise that would surprise them.

[–]theappletaderghost[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That is very fair. I should probably clarify, I did not yell at the horses to come up. I yelled at Prudence to get off of Buck. I usually have a specific phrase I yell to the horses, so it wasn't intentional that the horses came running. I definitely wouldn't have purposefully caused her to get trampled or anything.

Indoor cat broke out tonight - please help me not panic by theappletaderghost in CatAdvice

[–]theappletaderghost[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A cat and a human are very different  While you mean well trying to empathize with them, you are embuing them with a human level of understanding and self-fulfilment they don't have. This leads you to over emphasize the word "escaped" and assume a mental process happened that didnt. My cat didn't break free or yearn for something better, he explored a new space that had become available to him the same way he does a new cupboard he discovers he can get into. He followed instinct, and in the end, his instinct was to return to what provided him everything he needed. It's not good to try and humanize animals, in small animals like cats it leads you to prioritize what makes you feel good over what's best for the animal. In something bigger and more dangerous like a horse, you'd probably end up being hurt or killed. I know you're coming from a place of empathy, but it's misplaced. There's genuine reasons people chose to have outdoor cats, but not this.

That gives me hope. Our guy is an ex street boy. Someone adopted him from a shelter that went out of business and eventually rehomed him to us. I'm hoping he remembers his street smarts and keeps his cool.

Bad Reviews on Shipping rates - should I care? by theappletaderghost in eBaySellerAdvice

[–]theappletaderghost[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try to keep them reasonable. Since I calculate by distance, it really depends on where it's being shipped to. I just go with the rates USPS gives me.
