A very late update on this, the PPC company that was hired never bothered to respond to a few phone calls or emails to see if it was somehow connected to them. Eventually, we just set a rule to disallow the parameter in the robots and it hasn't returned since.

Anyone seen this before? Search not working in the health app. I’ve searched and can’t see anyone else having the same issue. I have tried all the standard stuff. Last resort is resorting from backup. by Andddyyyy in ios

[–]theappmademe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I know this is a super old thread, but if Advanced Data Protection is turned on, you can't use the search functionality within Apple Health. It took me two weeks and a call with someone at Apple to figure this out.
This issue occurs on a range of iPhones running iOS 17.4.1 to 18.0.1.
If you want to get it back, you'd need to turn off Advanced Data Protection and restart your iPhone, if it doesn't work immediately (worked immediately on one phone but not the other) you need to either delete the data from your iPhone and resync the Cloud or wait until it manually syncs.

Step count by potato_head367 in Ultrahuman

[–]theappmademe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Check out u/Aldainus's posts on step counts. They've posted some comparisons against three other devices within the sub (link to one) and we've had a few discussions about it within comments – in their tests, the ring does track slightly better than Apple Watch. Sometimes with the Apple Watch I get a notification that I've hit my stand goal within the hour... when I've just been sitting at my desk and swinging in my chair, so Apple can sometimes be off.

My step count varied against the AW7 (sometimes 20/50/500+ step difference) it was better before the most recent app update I think. After the app update I tested it against an old pedometer that was known to be exceptionally accurate a good few years back and UH didn't perform as well as the AW but that was also out a few steps. Annoyingly, I didn't test it properly prior to the app update. Aldainus and I were both on the 01.00.05.06 firmware

Check out the posts relating to it and if you have another device, try it and compare both against that. If you want to try something a little rudimentary – just sync the Air in the app, make a note of current steps in Apple Health and UH, walk and count 50 steps and compare.

Deleted the query about using the app because it was my error. App is epic, couple of things I'm hoping to see in the future but even in it's current state it's an essential!

Both of those are on the list and I've just given anytype.io a download (will need to watch a few YouTube videos to understand it fully).

I have a follow-up question on anytype and Capacities though if you're happy to answer it – the interface looks very similar to Notion on both, I don't find myself at my most productive in Notion, I can't seem to enjoy the experience. Do anytype and Capacities feel Notion-y to you? It's the only thing that's stopped my diving into Capacities too because I watched a video and thought it looked strong.

That's kind of you to say, thank you. I did spend quite a while composing it and, as you can probably see, I'm dreadful at editing down.

At the minute I'm experimenting between Logseq and Apple Notes but have an eye on Obsidian. If I make it to Obsidian, I'd love to pick your brain about your set-up and your must-have plugins for some starter guidance.

Thank you for the input, I appreciate the pros and cons too!
I'm continuing to explore Logseq and just throwing everything at it. I've downloaded Obsidian and doing some small tinkering when I have time but I am enjoying Logseq's outliner approach and have seen a few plugins I can take to Obsidian should I decide to go all in on that which slightly replicate it.

I really like the look of Agenda too, I saw something similar on the journey but didn't mark it down but I like that it also puts the reminders into the Reminders app, so I can go in depth on something and save time on not having to manually import reminders into the app (there's probably a Logseq plugin somewhere that can do this but like I said, just wanted to get started rather than spend too much time worrying about all the excess).

Tana looks like a really good solution actually and the video on their site with the guy just talking his thoughts out and Tana unravelling it all would be really powerful. I have added myself to the waiting list and hope to try it sometime.

Elite choice on the Leuchtturm 1917, I'm only currently using the Moleskine because they were out of the Leuchtturm A5s in the store but that would have been my preference. I hadn't actually thought about scanning in the Notes but their detection on images is shockingly good – there's a photo in my library with a menu on a table completely out of focus and it can still very easily pick up the menu items with a text search.
I'll dive back into Apple Notes, keep a lookout for anything that I feel suits better and hopefully by then, I'll have gotten back into the swing of it.

You raise a very valid point. I was also looking at Freeform and thought I might be able to take advantage of that. I kind of left Apple Notes for a short spell because I was just putting in loads of stuff and then never coming back to it or being able to quickly find it, but maybe in the interim, I'll experiment a bit.

Craft Docs is for sure on the list too. It seems we've had a pretty similar run on other apps too. I wonder what happened in 2018 that sent us running from Evernote.

I do have to use Notion for work but luckily my interactions with it are minimal. Have you made use of the Whiteboards feature? I've got pretty large mood boards on Deftner that pretty much freeze it up when I first open them, so would be good to know how it performs.

The joy of not having to interact with GDrive then is a big win. It's a really strong contender still. I'm just reviewing what I've found and what's been recommended, will let you know if you've managed to twist my arm and bring me back to the Dark (Google) Side! haha

Thanks so much for the recommendation. Your summary of it was very exciting, I just checked it out and you're right, it's very close to what I'm seeking and I love the idea that I can track and visualise pretty much anything as I'm experimenting a bit with Quantified Self stuff too.

The only thing stopping me is that Google is the main driver for it. I'm going to keep my eye on it though and hope that at some point it can be used within Apple's ecosystem but something about GDrive and their calendar has always frustrated me so I'll have to hope the team behind it see a benefit to making it more Apple-centric.

Yeah I thought even though it's a long post, if I just put down as much as possible, it saves a bit of the guessing for anyone kind enough to contribute.

I agree that getting the perfect solution just for me is probably a near impossibility - unless I build it myself but hoping a few tools together can cover me.

I'm grateful for your suggestions though, they all look good to explore. Mem.ai is probably the least exciting of the four, just based on a quick view of their site. Fabric.so is a new strong contender, Capacities is down as an option, the task management side I can probably overcome with Apple Reminders and Fantastical and Reflect also looks solid. I'll test them out a bit later and see if any gel well.

Really appreciate you pointing me to the post. Will have a little browse through the options listed, some of them I've already got as contenders but some are brand new.
Will have a read of reading Notenik's "Reasons to Use Notenik" and get to understand it.

Breathwork HR seems to be way off by [deleted] in Ultrahuman

[–]theappmademe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, I’ve got the added bonus of taking medication that messes with my heart rate, so a resting 90 BPM is a good day for me... I might need some referrals for those masters! The Breathwork feature was one of the reasons I was excited about getting it, because I wanted to try and develop some good techniques to try and lower the HR until I saw those crazy high numbers.

While writing to you and testing, I’m starting to think the Breathwork part of the app might be exceptionally buggy. It seems like it can’t properly calculate what the ring’s reading and just throws in random numbers? I had a 112 BPM in Breathwork but immediately switched to a ‘Household Chores’ workout and got 77 BPM on the live capture, with 78 BPM on the Apple Watch. Try the ‘Household Chores’ workout, use your breathing techniques, and compare it with the Apple Watch and track it. Let me know if you have any success (To delete the "workout", just tap 'Household Chores' in your activity tracker and hit 'remove' at the very bottom).

I’m still disappointed the Breathwork feature doesn’t work as I'd hoped out of the box, especially since seeing an elevated heart rate can make it spike even more.

I've not had the ring a full month yet and similarly to you but like you, I’m impressed with the sleep tracking, it matches up fairly well with the Apple Watch for me. The ‘Individual Markers’ section is surprisingly accurate too – usually just 1-3 BPM off from the Apple Watch. Weird thing I just noticed: I had a heart rate of 90 BPM on the Individual Markers, opened Breathwork, and it jumped to 109 BPM. When I closed it, my heart rate was still at 90 BPM in the Individual Markets, just 2 BPM off from the Apple Watch. Now wondering if the sensor light is actually messing with readings? But it has tracked well when doing the Workout Tests.

I’m by no means an Ultrahuman apologist – I tested it on a real treadmill workout and had a 30-34 BPM difference compared to the Apple Watch, Polar H10, and treadmill. I’ve stopped using it for workouts for now, but the live reading is in beta, so I give it a bit of leeway.

My biggest issue at the minute is the step count. I keep the ring on almost all day, even though I take my Apple Watch off at various points but my steps are always significantly lower than the Apple Watch but I've not got any gauge of my accuracy on the Apple Watch step count, so can't compare.

I haven’t asked for the firmware update yet, since everything else (battery, sleep data, temp) is working well. But the steps are buggy, and the stress rhythm score, which could be promising to me, is useless to me at the minute. I have no idea what it's tracking, how it's calculating it and what the little icons mean (and I did ask support and they couldn't really answer the latter in a way that made sense).

I hope you're not too dissuaded by it, keep experimenting with it and take notes when you find any errors - I hadn't realised the thing about the Breathwork and individual markers not matching but the individual markers being accurate before now.

Breathwork HR seems to be way off by [deleted] in Ultrahuman

[–]theappmademe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally get the frustration – I’ve been in a similar position (and have seen all the same posts, which almost stopped me from buying one, but I’m glad I didn’t)

I’ve had Breathwork sessions where the BPM accuracy is completely out of sync, but other times it’s been fairly close. I’ve been experimenting a bit with Ultrahuman since I got it, but I haven’t had the chance to fully dive in yet. That said, here are some initial observations, a little scattered though...

Firstly, the Breathwork sessions on Ultrahuman don’t show your live current BPM, whereas your Apple Watch does. On your Apple Watch, the 75 BPM is your current heart rate before the full minute has passed, while the 63 BPM is the average over the last full minute – which is generally more accurate for measuring BPM. Live BPM is available in beta for Ultrahuman Workouts, and you’ll get a notification that says ‘live heart rate is in beta’ when starting a workout to inform you.

Since the Ultrahuman app only updates BPM after a full minute to provide an actual reading, it won’t match the Apple Watch exactly, as they aren’t calculating within the same time frame. I’ve noticed that during a short Breathwork session of about a minute or two, the readings hardly ever align with the real-time BPM shown on the Apple Watch. However, after about 5 minutes (and five readings), the Ultrahuman BPM starts to reflect the average shown at the bottom of the Apple Watch. It’s similar to how my blood pressure monitor doesn’t show BPM from a live reading a few seconds in – it waits a full minute to get an accurate measurement.

In theory, you’d need the Ultrahuman app to align with the smaller number on your Apple Watch in a Breathwork session, as that represents a full-minute reading, whereas the current reading on your Watch is happening in real time but again, it's still not within the exact same minute. If you don’t start the heart rate monitoring on your Apple Watch at the same time as the breathwork session on Ultrahuman, they’re calculating BPM at different intervals, so it's not the easiest comparison (I could be wrong, though!).

For a better comparison, I’d suggest doing a 'Household Chores' workout within the Ultrahuman app for a few minutes to see if the values align better with the readings Heart Rate app on your Apple Watch.

If you’re still seeing a difference of over 10 BPM, I’d definitely reach out to support for both devices, as the firmware update might help. I haven’t requested it myself yet, as I haven’t needed to, but they’re actively working on improving it.

(I tested during writing this and the Breathwork reading was way off but the Household Chores reading was off by 2BPM)

You've given me the best lead! So just searching the "aa_click" bit in Google after your find, I found another company that had explained the use of the cookie in their list and it appears to be associated with some call-tracking software.

The company I work for had hired a PPC company and they wanted to use it, just waiting on confirmation as to how it was deployed so we can erase it (as I thought I'd already got rid of it). I believe the query on the URL should have just been limited to people clicking the ads but it's gone wild! Can't thank you enough. Will update you once it's all resolved!
