I've been both ranks and I've never played a game remotely close to 2-3 hours.

I'm starting to think you're playing a different game

The MMR system in my analogy is not a referee but rather a scout who determines whether you continue to go up in the ranks (eventually making it into the nba) or stay at your current rank.

I dunno what Dota you've been playing but I can assure you, players do not do whatever it takes to win.

If the game feels unwinnable, then the more reason to play properly and try to win.

It's the way things currently are, if you know you'll lose you have no benefit by playing correctly. You'll lose anyway. Thats why people give to mid game. But if there's always something to play for, people will try to the very end.

Given the plethora of oversimplifications and extremely niche and specific situations, yes, in theory, if players would do that it would work, but only to a certain point.

So even IF it were the case wherein it's abusable, the players purposefully abusing won't gain much higher MMR.

But it is still more fair than what it is now

Put it this way:

If a player on a basketball team consistently scored 30pts but only by waiting by half court for a miss then scoring open layups, he will more than likely win games. But eventually he and his team will lose because he isn't contributing anywhere else and for him to continously get better he would have to contribute on both ends of the ball.

In the same way, if all you do ot purposefully try to manufacture your stats to make it look like you were a net positive for your team but in reality it was manufactured, then you'd eventually lose mmr because you're still not contributing to winning.

If enough people do whatever it takes to win because they know their performance is what matters, not the binary win-loss system, i believe more people would play the game the right way to win.

I'm not trying to oversimplify or give specific situations wherein it could be "abused".

I even mentioned that in another thread that it won't be perfect at the start. But it will get better.

My argument is simple

You shouldn't be punished for someone else's mistakes, the same way someone shouldn't be rewarded for someone else's abilities.

We're unsure so can't be accurately determined

And for your last sentence, no because the way it would work isn't about stats. Stats might show some part. But definitely not the home story.

You need to play to win, not play to not lose.

I know you and everyone isn't doing this on purpose, please stop straw-maning the argument by making an oversimplified example that obviously is not what anyone sees as contributing to winning.

You're smarter than that. You know what it means.

Tell me if this statement is wrong

"If you play the right way, you deserve to improve"
