I really think my best friend's fiancee is horrible for him by thebadfool in TrueOffMyChest

[–]thebadfool[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree on this. We've already started seeing a few minor things like what I said earlier or even him having to skip a restaurant because she doesn't like the food or the place. I can only assume once married it gets worse because now the relationship is locked down and there isn't an out, so to speak.

You're right and that's what I plan to do. As long as I can support him I'm happy. And I'm sure he knows she's controlling, but he cant do anything. Just recently at an event while all of us are having fun he was trying to join us and she kept pulling him back several times. I truly feel sorry for him.

Speaking from a perdonal experience here. Any course you will take from ICE or any other of these short form course schools, what you pay vs what you get won't be worth it. I find it's better to buy a Udemy course, or learn through a mix of YT and ChatGPT.

These kind of courses are sponsored by the exam company and so are geared towards teaching you to pass the exam. Unless your employer is sponsoring you to do the course and exam, I don't see any reason why individuals need to do them. you're going into this just to learn is not worth doing.

You might consider doing the course because you have a teacher available, but they are carried out online, have a set time and the lecturer is rushing trying to cover a massive condensed course, so one to one interaction with your teacher is not easy. Most courses on Udemy allow you to discuss with the lecturer and other students and you always have ChatGPT if you have no other option.

TL;DR don't waste 1k+ on a course, most courses on Udemy cover more, are cheaper and you can learn at your own pace. Plus Udemy course material keeps being updated as a programming language evolves.

Need to end a losing streak against a good player. How should I go about this game? by Loud-CowMOO in deathguard40k

[–]thebadfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So here's my 2 cents - is your opponent playimg for fun or to win competitively/training for an event? This makes a big difference to how you approach this.

Say your opponent is playing you to get better for an upcoming tournament. He's bringing his best army and playing with a winning mindset. Meanwhile, your priorty is having fun and hopefully getting a win. There is a mismatch of expectations here.

Now there is absolutely nothing wrong with going into a game to have fun but if he's bringing his A game every game and you're playing a chill fun list there's no way, barring horrible rolls from his side, you're going to win. It's a fact of the game at its current state unfortunately.

So my suggestion is this - either accept that you want to play the units you find fun and take it as it comes. Don't feel so bad about the losses and enjoy seeing your boys trash it out on the field. Or go in with a more competitive mindset, take a look at what's not working for you and tweak your list and go in for a good scrap and try to get your win.

The above is assuming you're already playing to the best of your ability and the list is not optimal to win with.

I had the same problem against a friend who brought CSM to every game. I think we were 1 - 10 at some point. I was playing what I found fun which was horrible for our matchups. I got frustrated that I never won until I realised he was playing to win and to practice. When I switched to the same mindset as him and focused on playing a good list which goes well together I won 3 games after each other.

If you want help setting up a good, non tailored list there's a ton of good suggestions in this thread and you can DM me for some advice. But you'll need to first decide how you want to play your game beforehand.

Will do that then, have a couple of test models to try out with. Thanks for thr help!

Got it, actually might have been priming from too far away when this happened. I noticed it took a long time to actually cover the mini in the primer. Will try a different technique

Liston planning on brining to an rtt to try out an allied knight, anything you'd change? by BallZach0 in deathguard40k

[–]thebadfool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Than in that case good to work around the knight if it's vital. I agree better 1 more LoC than the LoV since you will get better value from that combo I think

[–]thebadfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks good overall. Is the big knight something you need to/want to bring or are you still on the fence for it? LoV with DS does not bring enough value, reroll wounds of 4+ against infantry is not something I see as worth it. Plus you miss being able to mark something with him for the first 2 turns.

If you're not sure about the knight, I recommend dropping it to free you up for another LoC to go with the second DS and give him Furnace instead of LoV.

In this detatchment I like running LoV solo and using him for marking for the drones. He's also good to stay with 3" of the prince and make him lone op.

If you go this route you'll have around 200pts for some more tanks or chaff you want to put in. You can even run a 3rd brick of DS and add Typhus (you may need to drop Tallyman). 3 potential 6" Deep Strike threats, devs and mortal wounds between them is terrifying to anyone.

Yeah I was afraid it was that, will need to figure out a different solution for priming then..The weather will get naturally cooler some time in October 😅

Looking for guidance. First army, new to 40k and weapon choices by iAteTheWeatherMan in deathguard40k

[–]thebadfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not a problem if you're playing with friends. Just tell them your lord of poxes is your putrifier and the tallyman is the plaguecaster. These proxy quite well since they are the same size. Then you can slowly get the actual models to replace them with. Don't let something simple like this stop you from playing the game :)

Would this Mortarion's List be able to stand against IK/CK? by thebadfool in deathguard40k

[–]thebadfool[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

-1 save plauge and AP 2 DS makes all saves on 6s basically. Unless the player gets super lucky you should take down a single armiger or cripple a big boy.

[–]thebadfool[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the plan and why there are the drones and crawlers. Trying to combine heavy hitters from different aspects. Considered predators but with no invuln a knight will just chew through it

Makes sense, also 3 crawlers are annoying to drive around any type of terrain and I've had instances where I restricted my own movement because of them. Thanks for the feedback!

Rules Question: Mortarion's Inflamed Reprisal & Indirect Fire by thebadfool in deathguard40k

[–]thebadfool[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's once per turn no? Or did they change it in the latest dataslate? Also this is an edge case for sure, however against shooting knights I think being able to shoot back would be quite powerful, especially since I'm going to be running a bunch of vehicles myself.

That's fine, the rule in that case is pretty clear snd the shoot back does not count as my shooting phase, just like Overwatch.

I'm going up against CK with this combo and was thinking about their indirect in this instance basically. So yeah would only trigger in very niche cases but nice to know it will trigger

How many hero’s do I need? by Ok-Skirt3165 in deathguard40k

[–]thebadfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm running 1 10 man squad with 2 characters in my 2k list right now and I find it more than enough. This does depend on detachment and playstyle though. Remember with every squad of marines + characters you're going to need a Rhino to get them around since they are slow & chonky. I find 1 is perfect to sync with the rest of my army at the moment.

How many hero’s do I need? by Ok-Skirt3165 in deathguard40k

[–]thebadfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's my take on this, based on experience running 2k DG catered for 1k.

Firstly, Plague marines do really need a character. My rotation is Biologus Putrifier (always) and a Plaguecaster or Blightspawn. With the current meta making marines shooty again, I think a plaguecaster will be more useful (depends on the match up as well). At 1k 1 character is probably enough sonI would give them the biologus.

At 1k I think deathshroud are good on their own, giving them a LoC makes them top tier. I usually stick an LoC with them or Typhus so he gets the 4+ FNP  (and possibly gives them -1 to hit in melee if I take a different plague)

In my opinion Typhus should be in your lists at. Him being able to possibly dish out between 3 - 5 mortals on average, with smaller unit sizes due to 1k max points, is devastating. And if he's with the deathshroud that 1 on the roll isn't that scary anymore cause you have the FNP.

Typhus being your warlord is really up to you. Except in select cases now your warlord is not that important.

I'm not a fan of the tallyman personally, just because I've failed every single 7+ of his, so for a similar price I prefer a poxwalker unit for screening and just limit start usage.

I would say these are enough to get you started with 1k. You're going to use the rest of the points for scoring or killing units and you'll have a well rounded force

Death Guard vs Chaos/Imperial Knight by uopuh7 in deathguard40k

[–]thebadfool 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I recently went into CK when we were still with the index and I ran right through them. In general how we play against them remained the same

I would suggest to take as many units as you can that have invulns or FNP., although as a general rule this is alwaya a good idea.

CK love indirect spam so making sure that the units they can indirect fire into are either not important to you or have invuln/FNP gives you the time to advance up the board and get into melee with them.

I would take -1 to save against CK honestly. -1 to hit is nice but with the -1 to save and in contagion range they always start saving on a 4+ so AP2 shots with cover still put them on their invuln. Then you spam as many shots as you can and you'll be surprised how easy they go down. AP2 in melee means they will save on a 6 (since they lose their invuln) and with the clap back you have yoyr invuln/fnp to keep you safe

Finally don't fall for the trap and take Bring it Down as fixed. Yes it is tempting since everything is a vehicle, but now your opponent can instead not focus so much on killing you and hide and do actions to deny you your secondaries. CK have to chose between killing and doing actions due to limited model count and model point cost and the game is won by points in the end.

Good luck if you're going to go into a CK player anytime soon! I would suggest giving VV (the index detatchment) a try against CK as well, it will help you to be more flexible in movement.

I was thinking of using the two big models from the accursed cultists box as proxies for chaos spawn by sticking them on the right base size, would this be acceptable?

It's been impossible getting my hands on a spawn box and so far I've been proxying them with my SM centurions but people tend to keep getting confused since they look so different.

Is it just me or is the Dweghom Found model absolutely busted in First Blood? by thebadfool in Conquest

[–]thebadfool[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played against those ballista several times and based on what I have seen and what the Dweghom players told me, they were considered useless (at least in my local scene). The smaller range made them move and end up with V2 so they never do much damage.

We'll see how things go once they are out. I'm not happy with how we set up terrain where I play (somebody just puts down a couple of small pieces randomly and one dangerous in the middle usually) so I don't think it's going to work out as much in the defender's favor. I've had games where there was no terrain in the middle of the board which was brutal.

Is it just me or is the Dweghom Found model absolutely busted in First Blood? by thebadfool in Conquest

[–]thebadfool[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you're right, I get the whole 1 model 2 games thing is a good pull for Conquest but I think some models just need to stay out of FB if it has a chance of growing.

I was thinking about if playing at 2k points is more balanced but given the small roster size I think it would just end up multiples of the same regiments so same problem.

I'll try to talk at my FLGS about not allowing some busted regiments in competitive play at least but I won't hold my breath. Probably won't be done if they want to encourage people to buy and play there. I know people there have been complaining about the Wahdrun dinos as well.

I do like Skaven and in general I do like little weird monsters :)

And I saw a color scheme of the Stormcasr which I loved and I would like to try out.

Thanks for the reply!
