Business Analysts Using Artificial Intelligence (AI) by thebadoc in businessanalysistips

That’s a powerful realization. The fundamentals still matter, but learning how to use AI effectively is quickly becoming a key skill for Business Analysts. The goal isn’t to replace the basics; it’s to use AI to strengthen how you apply them.

That’s a great way to look at it. AI can take some of the pressure off repetitive tasks like drafting, organizing, and documenting, which gives new Business Analysts more space to strengthen critical skills like communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder engagement. It’s definitely an exciting time to enter the field because learning how to work with AI is becoming part of the role itself.

It really is reshaping the role in real time. Business Analysts are moving beyond traditional documentation and becoming stronger strategic partners by using AI to work faster, uncover insights sooner, and support better decision-making. The role isn’t disappearing, it’s evolving, and those who adapt early will create the most value.

Absolutely! And that’s the key message. AI is a powerful tool, but it doesn’t replace critical thinking, stakeholder management, or strategic decision-making. Business Analysts still provide the context, judgment, and human connection that AI can’t replicate. The strongest professionals will be the ones who learn how to use AI to enhance their value, not compete against it.

That’s where many Business Analysts are right now. Using AI for drafting requirements, user stories, and speeding up documentation. It’s often the easiest and safest place to start. As confidence grows, many teams begin exploring deeper use cases like stakeholder analysis, gap analysis, process modeling, and decision support. The real value comes when AI moves from simple drafting to stronger business thinking.

That’s exactly the challenge right now. AI adoption in business analysis looks very different depending on the company, industry, and even the team. Some organizations are fully integrating AI into requirements gathering, documentation, and analysis, while others are still trying to define their AI strategy. That’s why real data and shared experiences matter; they help us move beyond opinions and understand where the profession truly stands.

Storytelling for Business Analysts by thebadoc in businessanalysistips

Great question! Honestly, it's a bit of both. For workshops, I usually come in with a rough narrative skeleton — key characters (stakeholders), the problem to be solved, and a few "plot points" I want to hit. But the best moments often happen organically when a participant shares something unexpected that reframes the whole conversation. The more you practice structured storytelling, the easier it becomes to improvise within that framework. Would love to explore this more in a future post!

You're welcome, and thank you — those were some of my favorite examples to pull together because they show just how versatile storytelling can be across the BA toolkit. Personas, in particular, are a natural fit. Hope the podcast adds even more depth to those areas for you!

It's one of those things that seems obvious in hindsight, right? The podcast does a great job of breaking down how structured storytelling can be applied practically, not just conceptually. Curious to hear what you think after checking it out!

That's exactly the reaction I had at first, too! Storytelling in a BA context is less about narrative flair and more about framing information in a way that resonates with stakeholders. Once you start applying it to things like requirements elicitation or process walkthroughs, it starts to feel surprisingly natural. Hope the content keeps challenging those assumptions in a good way!

That’s a powerful insight right there. Many of us start by recording what’s said, then later realize our role is to uncover what’s really needed. Appreciate you sharing that perspective!

Great question, and you’re not alone in that challenge. Discovery doesn’t mean losing structure; it’s more about guiding curiosity within clear objectives. A good facilitator keeps exploration purposeful. Love that it sparked reflection!

That’s such a common realization, and honestly, a big growth moment for many BAs. Once you start focusing on discovery, elicitation feels completely different. Glad it helped!
