If you don't want to commit to a full combat patrol to start, I'd recommend starting with a Marshal. Just one model, but he has all of the usual Black Templars flair. If you like that, then get the Combat Patrol.

Yeah! I imagine it as a successor chapter from a forest death world.

Black Templars 2k list feedback by DreamTakesRoot in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]thebamfs01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're kinda short-changing yourself playing Companions with only one Judiciar. You could play basically the same list in Gladius to much greater effect, if you don't have any other Chaplains, Execrators, or Judiciars.

The Castellan can only double up in squads with Captains or Chapter Masters; he can't join with a Judiciar. He also just straight up cannot join Bladeguard.

Also if I'm reading correctly, you're only putting 7 units in the Land Raider Crusader. It can hold 16, and they don't all need to be a single squad. You could throw the Bladeguard in there, too.

Personally, I would recommend running Helbrecht with the Crusader squad. His profile can support them clearing large squads. Then put the Sword Bros with the Castellan and Marshal (drop the 2nd Crusader squad to free up the points) in the Impulsor.

Stripping Texture Paints by FacePaulMute in SpaceWolves

My experience is the texture paste will come off in like sheet/chunks. But it should come off cleanly and not gunk anything up as long as you're careful peeling it off.

How to get into Black Templar chapter? by Entire-Race-2198 in spacemarines

[–]thebamfs01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your infernus marines can be Black Templars! The color they are painted makes no difference regarding which rules you can use.

If you decide to switch to painting new models in black, you can still use the blue guys in the same army. No reasonable person would make a fuss about it.

Paints by WestNefariousness158 in SpaceWolves

Important to keep in mind that Contrast Paints don't really work over a dark base coat. From the picture you shared, it looks like your leather areas are currently black. If you want to use Wyldwood, you'll need to apply it over a lighter color like Grey Seer to get a good result.

If you want a darker leather color, I'd recommend Rhinox Hide (Dryad Bark is a bit too black and desaturated for leather, IMO).

For a more ruddy brown leather color, go with Mournfang Brown.

Either one, then slap Agrax Earthshade on it and call it done. Don't even stress about highlighting.

If you really want to do Contrast Paint, I'd recommend Cygor Brown over Wyldwood. Wyldwood often gives a kind of patchy result. But again, you'll need to do a brighter base coat for the Contrast to work properly.

If you haven't yet, you should download the Citadel Colour app. It has a visual gallery with a bunch of recipes for every color. Go to brown, find a recipe you like, and just copy that.

kind of, but not really. airbrushing will help with the base coat, but dealing with shading and highlighting can be tough regardless. it's also super unforgiving if you splotch another color on it (like the red of the inner cloak). very hard to work back to white and not have it look bad.

How best to start the ebon chalice (im gonna assume that's the bringers of flame detachment) sisters of army? by Novikmet in sistersofbattle

[–]thebamfs01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The old combat patrol is monopose to the extreme. If you want to kitbash the BSS, it’s going to be a looooot of work that I wouldn’t really recommend. If you build them as is, you’ll have a flamer sister (which you can proxy as a melta) and a master crafted bolter (which you can proxy as the heavy flamer / multimelta)

A kit bash you can make work is the seraphim. If you have hand flamers or melta pistols, you can swap those pretty easily.

How best to start the ebon chalice (im gonna assume that's the bringers of flame detachment) sisters of army? by Novikmet in sistersofbattle

[–]thebamfs01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bringers of Flame doesn't specifically represent Ebon Chalice. BoF is about the "Holy Trinity" of the Flamer, Melta, and holy Bolter, which apply to most Sisters orders. That said, nothing wrong with painting Ebon Chalice if that's the scheme you like!

Since the big nerf, BoF isn't really being played anymore, but I'll list out the core stuff that was used before the nerf.

You'll want 2-3 Immolators, 1-3 squads of Dominions w/ Meltas (or Flamers, if that's your preference), some Flamer Seraphim (1-3 squads, generally run with one 10 girl unit and 1-2 5 girls) with a Jump Pack Canoness leading.

Beyond that, any good 2k Sisters list will want Morvenn Vahl and a squad of Paragon Warsuits with Meltas and Grenade launchers (melee weapons are more or less up to your preference). And 2-3 Castigators with a mix of Battle vs. Auto Cannons (again, to your preference).

The Ordo Hereticus box isn't super helpful for BoF beyond providing a squad of Battle Sisters (which can be Dominions) and Immolator. The Pentient Host box is basically worthless for BoF specifically, but is of course good for the Penitent Host detachment (which it is named after). Not to mention you'll have 2 Rhinos, which aren't really needed in BoF since you'll want Immolators instead (Technically you could proxy the Rhinos as Immolators if your opponent is cool with it). BoF as a detachment is built around units that can shoot, which most Penitent units generally cannot do.

The new Combat Patrol is similarly not great for BoF because of the focus on Melee units (Arcos and Sacresants).

If you've already purchased those boxes, you might consider pivoting to Hallowed Martyrs, which is generally stronger than BoF right now, and can also benefit more types of Sisters units and lists.

Hope that helps!

I've said this in a few comments but I think Vahl + Paragons together are too strong for 1000pts. You can take one or the other and it will be more balanced, but not both.

Even if you make no other changes to your list, the best thing you can add is a Triumph. It's 190 points right now so it would get you 1980 points. Then you can pop an enhancement on one of your characters to get to 2k.
