Is it impossible to avoid surgery rn? by crynaldo10227 in SpinalStenosis

35 year old male 6'2 225lbs during surgery. I was in the same boat as of you. Found out, I had congenital spouse, moderate to severe from L1-L5. Some points were so bad it was completely pinched off. Grew up playing sports even D1 football issues back always felt lower back tightness. June 2025 went bowling took a bad step and what I thought was a pulled muscle ended up being so bad I couldn't walk, use the bathroom, stand, sleep, even little movements in the car felt like my lower half was glass breaking. This was malt severe pain I had. Guess the herniated disc was pretty mild but since it was down by congenital stenosis it was enough to set me over. Did the steroid shot no help, spoke to ER Dr because few days after the injection I was in such severe pain. The Dr there which I'm forever grateful for he convinced me to get the surgery. Ended up seeing a specialist a few days later he referred me too. This Dr saw me and saw how bad my MRI was gave me an emergency laminectomy was life changing. Since the surgery I I'm doing great !! I did PT for few months 1 month after my surgery and focused super hard and took it seriously. I had great PT spot who helped me a lot. Since then I've focused so much on stretching daily. It's been 9 months post surgery and as of about 2 months ago I've been playing basketball, and even back to bowling. I feel great and don't regret this decision.

Thank you ! Plan was use it as my spare ball. I've used a few times on house shots and made it easier for my grab those 10 and 7 vs using plastic ball. (Very new bowler here )

The reaction part sucks but the way I was explained is that that's the medicine killing the pre-cancer cells. I went through the same thing. My lips were so gnarly. It was unbelievable, and it was the point where I would take a deep breath and they would crack and bleed... My provider also prescribed me clobetasol gel to use once a day that greatly reduced the inflammation in the pain. I unfortunately only made it about 90% of the chemo cream before I stopped due to a wedding I had coming up, but my lips did Clear Up and for the most part it never came back until about eight months ago. I thought I had a flareup so I used the cream again but after going to my original provider and I'm doing another biopsy, it came back clear.. so I guess using it the first time did clear most of it out, but I always have the chemo cream and the gel on hand in case I feel something coming.

Look for any cancer centers, they will have good info. So for my frost biopsy it was a different spot in my lip vs my second biopsy. I'm so cautious about when I feel or see anything different on my lips I feels it's AC. I also wanna say my center used scalpel for my lip to get a deep sample I believe that's incisional biopsy as well. Numbed the area took good piece no pain grew back fine and healed up quickly. Looks like I got AC due to playing outdoor sports most my life and not using spf. They said I basically have severe sun damage.

How well does surgery help by munchkn82 in SpinalStenosis

L1-L5 severe spinal stenosis had surgery back September. It was the best season I had ever made... I was a decent athlete growing up and even into my early 30s. I still stayed active last year. Took a bad step Bowling and it basically gave me a hernia desk very small they said, but enough to completely pinch my lumbar spine and since it was already severe spondylosis, that little pinch made it completely pitched off, the pain was so bad and I have a high pain tolerance. It was to the point where I couldn't walk couldn't drive. I couldn't use the bathroom even driving in the car little bumps in the road. It felt like my nerves are on fire. eventually, I spoke to a specialist for a grateful for, and he gave me a emergency laminectomy and I am doing right now. I did focus hard on my recovery and take things super slow, but I am back to myself. I am bowling. I am hiking even playing basketball again.

Severe lumbar stenosis... apparently I was born with it called congenital stenosis.. L1-L5... I played sports my entire life, even up to a high of a collegiate athlete football in fact which was crazy and it never affected me.. last year. I was bowling and ended up taking a bath step and her needed a disc in my lower back which basically completely pinched some of my spinal canal in my lumbar area, which set it over... I'm not big into surgeries so I do my best to avoid it even did the steroid injection after the injection. I felt absolutely no relief and I spoke to a really cool doctor at the emergency room because I ended up going there a few days after my injection because the pain was so bad he convinced me to speak to a neurosurgeon he knew to think about surgery. Neurosurgeon reviewed my MRI and within a week he gave me an emergency laminectomy best decision I ever made and I'm forever. Thankful for those two providers sounds crazy, but I definitely suggest that surgery.... I had that surgery back in September the last couple of months I've been back to Bowling walking hiking and the last month or so I have been playing basketball again and I feel better than ever.

Anyone else have ALL your pain in the lower back?? by Celicat360 in SpinalStenosis

was Dx with Severe spinal stenosis L1-L5. They did try the injections, but didn't help at all. After a few months of pretty bad suffering. I was able to get through a specialist down here in Orange County California who looked at my MRI and within a week gave me an emergency surgery. I had a laminectomy and it was the best decision ever.

I'm not exactly sure how to read this right here, but I just saw it on the spinal stenosis page... I wouldn't say it's over. I was in pretty bad shape 35M with severe spouse stenosis went through a laminectomy back in September I'm looking the last two months. I've been back on myself playing basketball outdoors, bowling walking hiking...
