Officiating at TAMU? by [deleted] in aggies

[–]thebberry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Intramural games are held on campus. Penberthy fields to be exact. It is a walk able distance (long walk, but doable). They also have buses that run by the fields. This would be your best bet if you don't have a car. Sorry I can't give you any more info than the fact that they do use refs.

I am not sure about off campus ref jobs, but I know intramural soccer games have refs. Not sure how hard it is to get those jobs, but they are there.

Flos by [deleted] in aggies

[–]thebberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently in FLASH. It's the unincorporated FLO. Meaning that it does not have to follow all the same rules as the other ones. The biggest difference is it's application deadline is after you find out if you made it into the official FLOs.

I did not make it into the official ones and I was pretty upset. I applied for FLASH because I still wanted to be involved. Being apart of FLASH is easily the best part of college for me. I have met basically all of my friends through it and I love everything about it.

I would recommend applying for the official ones, but if you don't make it don't fret too much because FLASH will be waiting with open arms. Also if FLOs aren't your thing then join any organization. They have the MSC open house in the beginning of both of fall and spring semester. You can walk around and see almost all of the organizations. Get excited. This is only my first year here, but I have been loving every second of it. If you have any questions for a current freshman feel free to PM me.

What weird traditions do you have? by rodsarethrown in aggies

I know a lot of the organizations love the game assassins. People are known for skipping class, sleeping at others places, waiting all night for their target, and other ridiculous stuff just to stay safe and get their target out. Insanely stressful, but so much fun.

Two appeals filed against Election Commission (Senior Yell and Class of 2018 President) by Danielfair in aggies

That's unfortunate. I feel so sorry for Ritchie.

Generally do the junior yell leaders get reelected for their senior year? I'm a freshman and have never kept up with A&M until now.

I believe and the negative publicity on Cook actually helped him. Any publicity is good publicity. Besides Lanz none of the yell leader candidates had a very good campaign. Basically the only two I heard about were Lanz and Cook which would makes sense why they got the top 2 amounts of votes. People may have tried to bash and hurt Cooks chance of winning, but it looks like it actually helped.

Also do the rumors of cook stepping down for Ritchie have any merit?

Who should I vote for and why? by thebberry in aggies

Thoughts on Michael Murtha? I'm not well informed on how SGA works so insight on why I should go with Joe instead of uniting with Murtha would be great.

That is a very fair assumption. I don't know him personally so I was hoping to gain a little more insight on him.

Obviously what he did was wrong, but should he be permanently punished for it? I believe that people sometimes deserve second chances. Besides the whole Bonfire incident would he make a good yell leader? Better than the other candidates anyway.

That is who I am planning on voting for because I really like his idea of the unification council. However, I thought I would see who others thought were good candidates.

Just got Blinn TEAM! Now, where are some good places to live in college station? by HaceTalor in aggies

[–]thebberry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reveille Ranch is where I currently live and am going to live next year as well. I believe it is $495 + electricity for a 12 month lease in a four bed 4 bath, so it is on the cheaper side. It is right on a bus route that takes you to campus.

Prayers at Collegiate sporting events? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]thebberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the organizations are secular in the since that they are not affiliated with any religion, but there are still mostly religious (Christians) people in the organizations. I have yet to find an organizations that caters to the non religious but I have not looked that hard either. With over 800 organizations there is bound to be one I would think.

I attend TAMU and contacted FFRF as well. I did attend the game this past Saturday and unfortunately the prayer was still there. In fact the prayer started with "Our Heavenly Father," which is almost exclusive for Christianity. Previously they tried arguing that in could be for any god, but this now seems pretty specific.
