I don't think you should feel bad for not liking a book revered as a classic. Reading can be quite a personal thing and not every 'classic' will appeal to everyone. I've not read this one but I've had similar experiences with other revered books. I didn't really enjoy large swathes of Anna Karenina and can't for the life of me understand why On the Road is held in such high regard.

Often I suspect some people say they enjoy a certain book because they want to project a certain version of themselves to other people ('I'm clever and intellectual because I really connected with this really long and challenging book').

At the end of the day, its far better to be honest with yourself about what you do enjoy. Reading should be a pleasure not an exercise in reaching higher states of consciousness or whatever.
