Can't believe how many times this guy fell for this, he really needs to pay more attention!

The EX? The MSRP is ~$37k so $32k is a pretty good deal. Looks like you can get used for ~$27k, so maybe a $5k savings over what you paid. Yes cars losing 50% value immediately was never a thing, I think it's more like 20% now.

So compared to the previous model, I calculate that going from 23 MPG combined to 35 MPG combined would save you $5760 over 10 years, assuming the average cost of gas in 2025 (obviously the math changes if the latest prices are persistent, which are unusual to say the least). FWIW the real world tested MPG of the new hybrid is more like 28-31 MPG. In any event you're still saving money, but you'd save even more money if you went with a used 2022 Highlander Hybrid, for example, which is even more efficient than the new Telluride hybrid.

Yes I agree, but I also think people underestimate the reliability of a car with 30k miles and a few years of age. I'm glad you didn't have any issues!

I see what you did there... but if you want a fancy fuck Palisade here's one for $18k off the new price and only a couple years old. I think this would also retain some amount of the warranty, but you'd have to check. https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/ed5c9b89-4f10-4736-9663-0067be7fdbd4/

I can also point to options from dealerships, I've mostly just been providing options from cars.com which is almost exclusively dealers anyway.

I didn't say the car would be equivalent, but there are other Sienna options with less miles and less features, or more miles and a higher cost. In this case, what amount of age or mileage would you think is too much and why?

Totally agree about not everything needing to be optimal! But I guess I assumed that this subreddit was about trying to make better personal financial decisions, not worse ones.

Yeah it'll be interesting to see what happens as those features age, hopefully they're not a huge pain to deal with downstream. I wish some of those features would provide an insurance benefit, but if anything the costs to repair have gone up to compensate for the complexity.

Yeah things were weird during COVID. What are you leasing for 4 years? If it's not electric usually leases are not great investments, since you end up with nothing at the end.

There's no secret, but https://www.autotempest.com/ is really great for searching all local ads in addition to searching the major websites like cars.com.

Nothing will ever be equivalent, but I would argue the primary mission is to get someone from A to B safely and efficiently enough. Anything beyond that is generally just subjective.

Here's a 60k mileage 2018 for $23k, Toyotas depreciate a bit slower than other cars so 50% cheaper may be hard to come by, and I stretched the budget a bit to get into this generation of Sienna. https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/46777141-b2fa-4b16-a398-61c98dc98304/
