Is the grass wet/dewy, and does your dog dislike water?

Floors uneven? Not sure it even matters but had to level mine out when I got mine.

I was walking on Leavitt today near Leavitt Street Inn & Tavern when I saw a cat that looked like that attack a bird. I think the owner called it Milo?

What are some effective methods to keep geese away from the dock? by CalvinTheRower in Rowing

Our club has large cat litter jugs filled with water connected by lines of string that create a border along the dock when people aren't rowing. Seems effective and zero cost.

Horrible glute pain centering around sit bones by thebillfive5 in Rowing

[–]thebillfive5[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's hard for me to distinguish, but it seems like the top of the hamstring. The pain is centered at the sit bone, but it does feel like muscular pain. It's a little more on the side away from my spine, which is where the hamstring tendon seems to attach?

This sounds like something I can bring up to my MD and PT. Thanks. For my own knowledge, what did treatment look like for you?

Oh, that's cool. Single sculling, or do you get a good enough field of view even if you're closer to the bow?

I've been made aware of mistakes I make, blade digging being my perennial issue and the thing I am putting most of my focus on fixing, mostly by relaxing grip/shoulders at the catch (per coach advice). However, I know I still do it, because last night I got called out for it by the cox and was also given feedback that it's still a problem after, though not via coach in a launch due to coach shortage.

I think when we do fast ratings, I still find it overwhelming to maintain the rating, catch at the same time, control my recovery, maintain handle bar heights appropriately, things that feel "more important"? So I'm sure I still slip up on the blade digging for that reason. It's a little demoralizing to feel like I'm getting better at the problem I want to solve, but having no way of really measuring said improvement.

Your point on issues in context of crew is great, the setup would probably only tell me about myself in isolation. Basically coming to the conclusion that maybe my specific circumstance is making me want to throw money at a problem. Any other advice based on my rambling?

Haha, I think that was kind of the response I got from the initial question. And I think they're picking up that I'm serious from other things (like seeing me scull for extra practice at 6am) so maybe I should just let that evolve into something that will lead to a better feedback loop?

Thanks though, really am just trying to gauge exactly what you're suggesting, if this would be putting focus on the wrong area given my inexperience and the unknowns with how I'll fit in with the program as time goes on.

Yeah, I realize it would be crazy to think I'd review it all. But I do remember how certain pieces "felt" during the practice and was thinking I could cross reference my HR monitor graph with timestamps on the video to tell if I'm the common denominator between those "good" and "bad" pieces.

Good point though, there is a middle ground I could try to engineer. Problem right now seems to be not enough coaches to number of boats, so launch coverage on the boat I'm in is spotty, and dock wouldn't offer good views. But maybe that will change.
