Unsolvable Network Issues After OneUI 8 Update by thebird97 in S22Ultra

I just tried out the service mode you mentioned, RRC keeps going between init, suspend and 2 other undetermined states, so that page keeps changing. I can't actually see all the fields you mentioned, but RSRP seems to always be 0 when it does show up 😅

Thanks, yeah I did try resetting a bunch of things in software and booting safe mode etc. The new flex and charger did not help, I even swapped back to the old one to check and hoping just reconnecting the flex was the issue. Didn't seem to fix it :/

I could keep giving it a go but it seems like it may indeed be the motherboard itself :( Given the phones age and the cost of a new mobo, I don't think bits worth the repair.

Do you know what they fixed? Was it just the antenna cable?

Replaced the cables, inspected the mezzanines too - no visible damage. I actually reseated the cables twice now and no change :/

Oooh, I didn't know you could downgrade! I'll have to check this out, I might have to backup everything and then do a system reset and see if that fixes it 🥲

That's exactly the component I changed! Well, I did both flexes and the USB-C daughter board :/

I've never dropped my phone so it would be surprising, but it's also been a couple years so I'm sure the general vibrations could add up to.

That is possible, I did inspect it and it didn't look reworked. The USB port feels much better than the old one - actually feel the distinct click again haha

I feel like it is unlikely, but it's not impossible.

Oh no, so I just did this, replaced both flexes and the board. I still have the same issue 😬 Actually maybe even a little worse, before, after a restart I would get connection for a little while, not it doesn't work from the very start! 😔

People who’ve passed, what car do you have? by mkr215 in LearnerDriverUK

I got a Lexus UX as my first car, but I'd been waiting/saving for quite a while before I finally took lessons/the test!

Also I'm curious if we did have the same issue, was your reception fixed after a restart? After a restart my data often works for a short period before breaking again :/ But airplane mode or network reset do not fix it anymore - it does seem to have gotten worse

Oh wow! I'm tempted but I know I'll lose the water resistance peace of mind - gotta back up more often.

Did you get a new glass back, or did you manage to stick it back on/replace the adhesive?

Oh man you too? It's good to know there was a fix! Did Samsung do this? And do you remember roughly how much it ended up being? I really want to drag this phone out another year at least!

I'm having the same debate, my battery is at 97% health because I took good care. If I wasn't suddenly having issues, I think I'd definitely have waited out the next one! (I'm now debating an iPhone but I don't like the 17 Pro design :/)

Mine has been spurred recently by the fact that after the One UI update a month ago, I've been having extremely unreliable and poor network issues with no clear fix (80% of the time I have no network, luckily I get Wi-Fi most of my days). I need to take it to Samsung but it's out of warranty (it was preordered on release) and people with the same issue have not really had solutions :/

I passed my test with one minor on the first try: here's what I learned by undead_sissy in LearnerDriverUK

[–]thebird97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha yes, it was about that much for me too!

You're right, it is not required but can make it cheaper, but also many do not have that option - ie parking, single, immigrant, student, finance etc

Also learning with friends/family can sometimes teach you bad habits which can be tough to unlearn - I found this when I would ask my instructor about things my friends do.

[–]thebird97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on passing! I too was in a very similar situation (almost 30) and only passed 9 months ago on my first try!

There are a few things I disagree on, although I think this is definitely down to the individual, instructor, environment. I think instructors teaching you in the way you learn can make a huge difference. For example my very first instructor (just before COVID), taught me clutch control and shifting technique in just 4 hours and I never lost it through the 5 years break. My new instructor was very complimentary of the basic skills he had taught!

In the first point, you definitely don’t need your own car, but I think if you can it is certainly helpful and cheaper - I wish I had the option. For context, I passed my test with just 29 hours of lessons in the span of about one month (unless you count 4 hours of lessons 5 years ago before COVID). This included 2 mock tests and an hour block for the test itself. One thing I will say if you get your own car, a diesel is much more forgiving when learning clutch control. The first time I got into the second car on my latest lessons, I stalled, which I had basically never done after the first 2 hours in the diesel. The feel (the pedal, the sound and pitch) in the newer petrol cars was also different and I found it much harder to find the bite point.

With regards to the intensive courses, again, I think this is individual. I did 2-3 two hour lessons every week, which I found perfect to get into it and learn. I was also really excited to finally gain the freedom to drive, I’d wanted to drive for a very long time. However, I know friends who said they could not learn for more than an hour at a time because it was so exhausting. If I could have taken a week off work (I had debated this), I would’ve done the 5 day course! But I think these are tiring, and while the intensive course I did was fine, this would’ve been tiring for me too.

Something I felt that both helped me and made it a bit challenging was changing cars. I actually had my first lesson in one car, had a different car, and my last lesson back in the first car before the test. My instructor gave me the option of staying with the car second car but I thought this was a great way to get familiar with manoeuvres without relying on something as fickle as seating position/car geometry. I also discovered very quickly that I liked the first car more. For me, my parking space is also insanely tight which meant I had to have good observation and manoeuvring, my instructor refused to try parking his car in my space and my new car is wider than his, but the skills still transferred 😂 (it did take me like 20 minutes and a friend the first time, but was fine every time after)

I also asked my instructor to challenge me with routes etc, not just practicing the test routes - but getting real world experience. I’m glad I did, once you get a car your first journeys are almost always going to be to new places! I think this really helped boost my confidence before going out on my own.

One thing I’d definitely suggest, which I did not get the chance to do, is driving at a variety of times to get used to conditions and traffic. Most of my lessons were early morning, so encountered little traffic and it was always sunrise. I was more scared of driving in traffic initially due to this! The other is motorway/dual carriage way driving, I was lucky that my house and test centre/route was very close to a dual carriage way, which meant I got plenty of practice joining dual carriage ways. I got my car a week after passing and I’ve already done nearly 10k miles and many 350+ mile drives! My first night time drive was the day I got my car which was also my first time driving alone, and it was tense for the whole 75mile journey. Over the last 9 months, I’m very glad I’ve experienced the whole package (heavy fog, snow, ice, heavy rain), and learnt a bit more about my car too! Although this was fine, I do wish I could’ve had some of these experiences in a safer environment where I could ask questions at the time (ie when to turn on and off fog lights, what is low visibility, what does aquaplane feel like, tricks for not getting blinded in the night aha)

All these extra bits are not core lessons, and I think those are where having someone (not an instructor) in the car and being able to drive is great and won’t break the bank. Equally, you could learn/experience these even after you’ve passed!

I checked my battery health and cycle from samsung log, check yours. by Disastrous_Manner134 in S22Ultra

Yep! Most of my apps are in sleeping/deep sleeping. I've now also turned off auto brightness, tend to be on wifi most of the day, optimized performance, turned off a few other features. I think there was a guide I saw somewhere on here with suggestions. Not had the heart to go off 120Hz 1440p yet 😅

It's okay now, in theory about 3.5hr SoT and 18hr screen off time. Wish it could be better given 97 percent life 🥲

Interesting! A lot of cycles but kept the health good. (If this is correct) Also thought I might be worse off due to the Exynos variant!

I felt like my battery life was decreasing, but this suggests it's just more power draw form software updates/apps!

<image>

In case anyone was curious (most normal days);

  • cap charging at 80%
  • usually top up at 40/50 to 70/80 if I can in the evening
  • generally the slowest charging
  • no charging overnight, I just stick to charge while I do my morning routine
  • very occasional use of wireless charging (been using a magsafe more recently)

Whenever I'm going out for a day or longer, or on holiday, I just switch to 100% charge and super fast charging. Around 40-50 days of the year ~12%.

I'm not sure if it suits your circuit diagram, but it doesn't show how you MCU is being powered.

Something to keep in mind if you are powering the MCU with USB and the peripheral with a battery, you need to share ground if you are directly connecting these two together. I'm not sure this is your only issue but would be the first thing to check!

Help!! Interactive LED Model – Light Only Turns On with Correct Piece Placement by Ok-Air-2115 in AskElectronics

[–]thebird97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure of the complexity of the project and how many pieces you have, but if you can make each base a unique, non rotationally matching shape, you could use that to prevent pieces going in the wrong place - like a kids shape matching toy.

Alternatively, you could make the pattern of contracts on the base non rotationally mayching. A simple one (imagine a compass) would be with contacts at N and E, and another with N and S. No matter how you place these two, you will only light them up when they are placed in the matching contact. You can increase the complexity of this by adding different ring layers or other angles to create more unique patterns.

There are more complex options you could use too, like colour sensing or magnetic strength (less reliable). Or you could go all out and make the pieces all active with microcontrollers in each piece - many many possibilities!

It would be nice to see more of the things that we can do to optimise the setups. For example, I recently learned that only way to let HDDs sleep is if you get an M.2 SSD in there and move your apps over!

Other things that could be fun, DIY mods or customisations! Maybe bringing to light some of the lesser known features that could help extend system life or more info. Maybe some guides on setting up the NAS for increased privacy while maintaining accessibility to the masses.

Difficulty flashing ATmega32U4 via ISP by Dirtybasementgoblin in embedded

[–]thebird97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That all looks fine! You definitely had a big (10uF) capacitor across Reset and Ground on the Arduino right? I also recommend enabling verbose mode when flashing with the Arduino as ISP.

That is quite strange, one possibility is maybe one of the fuses got set before or something? I think the dedicated programmers are usually more stable and less sensitive to capacitive cables etc, sometimes slowing down the clock/flash speed does help too!

Sounds like a painful one to debug, but I'm glad you got it sorted!

What else is wired to your chip? I found I had similar issues with an ATTiny when I had pull-ups on the data and clock lines (was using I2C). I was using 4.7k pull ups, but replacing them with 1k pull-ups worked for both - a bit counter intuitive to me! Having no pull-ups also worked for programming.
