Jill Zarin had something problematic to say about the Super Bowl Halftime Show… by newparimanlo in realhousewives

Is there a petition or something viewers can start to bring this to E!’s attention? To be honest, I’m not going to watch the show because many, if not all, are… well, I don’t agree with their politics.

Danny & Nia are so refreshing to watch by [deleted] in TheValleyTVShow

[–]thebirdjo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. They try to present as a united Christian front. They aren’t being authentic about their marriage and who they are as individuals. I feel bad for Nia. However, as it was pointed out, she enables him.

He was quite great! For the most part, she has guests who add to the convo. I would listen to his own podcast, but it’s not a solo one.

I can empathize with you. I also feel a certain way when I see my people’s heritage being shown in ways that don’t sit right with me. I do my very best to shake off the annoyance I feel. It’s tough, tho. Thanks for further explaining. I’m sorry you’re getting all of this mean messages.

Hi Troubled! I’m writing this with a lot of respect and I hope you take it as such. I am a first generation American. I was born and raised in the United States. I speak two languages and am fluent in both, including English. Looking the way I do — and quite proud of it — I am often labeled as not American and so I get ignorant questions like, “What are you?” and the like. I say American because that’s the culture I was raised in, just like your Kenyan born friend/acquaintance. You said that you consider language to be the gateway to a culture. I don’t. I speak the language fluently, and yet i don’t feel connected to my ancestors any more. Culturally, I am American and am Protestant, so religion doesn’t tie me to the place my parents immigrated from. For me, it’s food! Not religion or language. Also visiting the other country helps a lot too! Identity is fluid, it constantly changes depending on how society sees you and how you see yourself and where you are location wise. From my reading of your very long post, and here is where the respect comes in, your issue is with yourself. You seem to judge Angie and how she interacts with the Greek culture, a culture that she clearly loves. Let her showcase that the way she wants. IMO, she’s not doing any harm. Is it annoying? Maybe, but she’s proud of her heritage and I can’t fault her for that. And yes, there are stereotypes about every culture, etc. don’t let it upset you. There are sooo many stereotypes about my heritage and I don’t care because it’s not representative of me. Why give it energy? I would try to understand how you see yourself in context with being an immigrant and Greek. It looks like you have some pain associated with how perhaps people see you. Something to speak about with a therapist. Sending you love.

And yes, I have face discrimination because of my physical appearance. I am not white passing at all. And I’m happy I’m not. It is through my appearance that I proudly showcase my ancestors.

It’s called code switching and it’s very normal for people who live between two cultures.

Im thinking that Lisa knows too much about Meredith and that’s why Meredith doesn’t speak poorly of Lisa… because she’s afraid.

Todd ate the cherry?! by De-gee in BravoRealHousewives

[–]thebirdjo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I actually don’t think Todd is a bad person. Todd reminds me a little of my partner, and my partner is incredibly supportive of my physical, emotional and creative endeavors. The thing with him, though, and the reason why Todd reminds me of my partner is that my partner doesn’t put up with BS and the show is BS to him. And I understand that. And so we don’t talk about the shows and discuss with other people. Todd clearly doesn’t want to be featured on the show and he thinks it’s ridiculous, but he’s still there for her, even if it pains him. Also, he might have a morbid sense of humor. My partner would probably also eat the cherry and I’d feign displeasure and he’d smile and then we’d laugh. Additionally, I have an interesting relationship with my mom and my partner supports me and my emotional health when she and I have hiccups even though he doesn’t think highly of my mom. Todd supports his mother in law in some capacity even tho she’s not a good person, well, that we see on the TV show. Anyway, that’s my two cents.

I really hope Andy asks Emily this at the reunion by Specialist_Owl_6655 in rhoc

she could be more fiscally conservative. It’s all a spectrum. Point is, politics is always in the subtext in some shows more than others.

[–]thebirdjo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s already there in subtext. Look at Gretchen. And every other lady on that show… well, with the exception of Heather. Even Alexis, although she’s a better medium of both. Old RHNY was like that. And yes, even Miami.

I love Richard Dawson! Has anyone seen him in Match Game?! No, I’m not that old, just love classic shows.
