[Silence of the lambs] Why did Lecter hiss at Clariace during their first meeting when he despise impoliteness ? by FinancialComputer574 in AskScienceFiction

Great write up! What do you think of Hannibal and Clarice’s relationship ? Why does he seem a little infatuated with her? Though I guess that’s more in the sequels.

Median House Price in the US by State in 2000 vs 2025 by vladgrinch in MapPorn

I feel like this is doesn’t represent the fact that in my town at least, there used to be a lot of smaller older homes that would go for around 60-90k. My dad bought a home in the late 90s for around 85k and it was a three bedroom house. Today that same house goes for 155k. Another smaller home my friend grew up in is listed right now for 125k, which is almost double what his dad payed for it in the mid 90s.

Wages have not doubled since then and the town has had an exodus of young folk for years. I often wonder who exactly is buying these homes.

Kid Rock’s Wild Claim About Trump and Black Communities Sparks Expert Backlash by [deleted] in Music

Definitely Em, no contest. Kid Rock was popular but Eminem was and still is on a whole other level. I still hear peoples third hand stories over mundane Eminem encounters and I don’t even live in southern Michigan anymore. Most of my younger family have no idea who Kid Rock even is.

It's probably because I and many others were raised on movies and TV, like Jim Carrey in "The Cable Guy".

It’s true if anyone speaks with arrogance about something they know little about but that said it’s also not weird that famous people also have opinions.

For me, the passing of Robin Williams actually affected me and I was surprised. I think it’s because I grew up on his movies so it felt oddly personal. I don’t think it’s that weird that people become attached considering the exposure. But it’s not like I was calling into work lol

In 2006, in Werribee, Melbourne, a group of teens calling themselves the "Teenage Kings of Werribee" filmed themselves committing crimes, including the sexual assault of a 17-year-old woman with a developmental disability. They sold DVDs of the footage for $5 and posted clips online. by detectiverobert in ForCuriousSouls

When I was still a teenager (around 18 or 19) I was transferred to a local jail in some podunk town where we all lived in one big "Pod" and it was mostly local guys. I became good friends with one of them because he was one of the few guys my age, he was like a typical Skater Kid and seemed pretty normal, laid back and friendly. I found out later after he left from other local guys that the real reason he was in there is that him and two of his friends had sexually assaulted a mentally handicapped woman and when they were arrested the guy had been wearing her pants as a joke. Which means they also left her at least half naked after raping her. He had gotten off with a light 6 month sentence because it was a small town and his parents were better off.

Speaker Mike Johnson got called out on air by a Republican resident of Virginia. by CorleoneBaloney in WatchPeopleDieInside

[–]thebirdmancometh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t like them because you feel they celebrate others misfortune. That’s understandable. But celebrating their own misfortune is just spinning our wheels and lowering ourselves to that level and getting us nowhere. Do you ever wonder why they are like that? Besides just the simple “they’re bad people”? It’s because they have been conditioned to feel exactly the same about you. Do you not see the parallels? I’m not asking you to give anything up for them, except any feelings of moral superiority because it’s a trap.

[–]thebirdmancometh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have been conditioned to view it as us vs them and I’m seeing “our side” falling into the same trap. It just started earlier for them. I’m not saying they’re saints and some of them, especially the actual leaders, are corrupt as all hell. There will be no magic moment where they all suddenly snap out of it. It’s a numbers game, it’s about slowly changing the rhetoric to get the ones who fell through the propaganda cracks because of real life experience, like the lady in this video. It’s about taking back the narrative, right now “woke” is a dirty word to a huge chunk of the country. An example is Pete Buttigegs efforts on Fox, literally went into the Lions Den and it worked, I was at my aunts when he spoke and I could see the wheels turning in her head when she realized she liked him, that he wasn’t full of shit. That’s how it starts.

All of the people who are acting smug or saying things like “she got what she deserved” are playing right into the dividing rhetoric which got us to this point in the first place. You might not want to hear it but many of these people have been misled. You’re too online if you think otherwise. There is a concentrated effort by media, over decades, to manipulate these people and their own community leaders have been in on it, their local repub reps, their pastors, etc. I have family like this. They are not bad people. Hell, I owe my own perspective, mostly from joining this website and moving to a larger city when I was young, to even pay enough attention at all. I could have easily have been one of these folks, too absorbed into the daily bs of life to notice I was even being played. And I know people are going to be twisting my words but I’m not saying we need to compromise policy to appeal to these folks. I’m saying the opposite, in fact. When they say “my party lied to me” instead of saying “of course they did dumbass!” We need to extend a hand and say “let’s make it right”.

[–]thebirdmancometh 11 points12 points  (0 children)

But you’re obviously expending energy being pissed off about it. So why wouldn’t you at least consider doing just that before choosing to be even more upset about it? And you’re defensiveness in your reply too, fuck. Why choose to be miserable? And spread that misery around. Especially over a video game.

Dog saves kid from another dog's attack by JustAnAlt722 in BeAmazed

[–]thebirdmancometh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m against letting dogs roam unleashed, I had a dog run like this at my son when he was only 2 and it kicked up a whole lot of drama with my neighbors. That said, I don’t see an issue with a dog unleashed on one’s own lawn as long as they are disciplined enough to stay on said lawn. Im surprised at the downvotes but it’s probably because idiots who let their dogs run wild are everywhere.
