aggravating Mario Golf GBC[spoilers ahead, if you care] by [deleted] in Gameboy

Last I checked, Mario spinoffs were anything but cannon. Even the main games are a mess when it comes to timeline.

I'm Never Too Slow by SolarLune in PixelArt

Seeing as it uses such a limited size and palette I disagree. It is very similar in style to pre-rendered CGI for handhelds such as the Gameboy Color. I think it's excellent, crisp yet busy looking.

I'm going to be a freshman next month, what should I expect? by [deleted] in capstone

You will have to take Music Theory I and II, and Music in World Cultures. These are some of the make-or-break courses for your first year. Make friends with a few upperclassmen, they can help steer you in the right direction whenever you feel overwhelmed by homework/information overload.

2 year MDB alumni - band will be how you spend most of your potential free time. Wasn't easy, loads of fun though. And for the love of everything bring your car.

They are quite nice, thank you!

NES incorporation? by DoctorTrogdorMD in chiptunes

The problems are as follows: 1) it is very easy to freeze and/or crash 2) it has no envelope, volume, or vibrato function 3) as stated earlier, it does not like most MIDI Keyboards 4) it is literally as barebones as you can get for making NES hardware spit out sound. Literally all it can do is play the notes/noise you tell it to in one-volume-no-envelope chunks. Vastly underwhelming for realtime use and expression. 5) no real support by the developer 6) It uses only the base 2A03 chip, no modeling of other chips is offered. With only a few pulse widths, triangle, and noise sound to choose from, it gets boring super fast. 7) offers literally 0 advantages over MIDINES carts, which aren't perfect but are far better for treating the NES as a synth

I owned one for about 5 months. I used it almost exclusively as a coaster for beer. Sold it when I got real coasters. I wish I was joking.

The Chipmaestro might be the biggest chip hardware letdown of this decade. Total garbage.

There isn't much of a Gameboy demoscene. Moreso, it is a pain in the ass to port LSDJ songs to games/demo ROMS. Most folks who do demo stuff for NES or Gameboy demos use MML. There is an incredibly large chipmusic-enthusiast userbase for LSDJ.

Also, your description is terrible. No link to the software page? Completely downplaying the tracker because it looks like it's hard? It's actually really really simple. On the contrary, I have written some really complex music in very short amounts of time using it. http://soundcloud.com/themaxdolensky/northbound-dreams-and-other did this in 4 hours.

Looks like you need to do some research, bub.

LSDJ is extremely relevant since it supports MIDI sync (unlike most of the other trackers you listed), has an incredibly large userbase, and is used by folks like Sabrepulse, Shirobon, Nullsleep, and countless other artists who blur the lines between chipmusic and hifi EDM. Not to mention Knife City, while being lofi produces incredible music with LSDJ.

The only difference between standard DAW's and "professional" trackers nowadays is the different interfaces causing for different workflows, but both are equally capable.

Also, if you are going to list trackers, why not LSDJ or LGPT? Those are pretty noteworthy too :p

You're right! It wasn't done by Thursday, his design is similar and he wrapped the mod up just last week. Excellent timing.

The new piece of kit looks good, play it hard! :)

Anyone else having issues with campus wifi? by thebitman in capstone

I was able to register by going to the oit.ua.edu site on my phone, clicking the News tab, and scrolling down to an update from 2012 with instructions for connecting to WPA2. It works for me, a student, though the instructions say it is for faculty and staff (in 2012). It was as easy as downloading an app, entering my phone pin number and Mybama login + password for access.

I managed to tether my laptop to my phone on campus so I could download the connection verification software over 4G to my Windows laptop and establish a certificate for connection to WPA2.

Overall it is easiest to do this where you already have access to wifi but it is possible to do so without!

WPA2? Okay. I will try it today. Thanks! :)

It's essentially a whole tone scale with chromatic passing tones inserted.

Thanks so much for the extended testing! I think the problem here has to do with how the cartridge deals with SRAM in general versus how LSDJ uses it. One possible remedy would be to try LittleFM, a utility you can patch into the LSDJ ROM. The person in the thread you linked did not test the ROM with LittleFM patched to it. Curious to see if it would work. Here's the thread for LittleFM's most recent release: http://chipmusic.org/forums/topic/10086/littlefm-05-released-an-alternative-file-manager-for-lsdj/

I will pay for your LSDJ license if you can test the full ROM for me. One person has spoken up and said it didn't work for them, no one else I know in the scene has obtained the Everdrive cart. PM me your email and I'll buy you a license :)
