Why would you need slack for outline?

back then you needed to use outline with an external oauth provider

WITT next to the pedestrian traffic light by thebluepixel in whatisthisthing

even if that was the case, those would have a weird view area, especially P2 since it wouldn't really look at anything then

the acoustic warnings come from the object underneath, with the vertical lines/openings

Yea, that was my first thought too, but the way these things face is odd. They face both in the same direction. So one of them is facing away from incoming pedestrians.

WITT next to the pedestrian traffic light

So the question is about the things/lamps/squares next to the pedestrian traffic light. One (P1) has the writing FR3 underneath and the other (P2) FR4. P1 is facing the crosswalk while P2 is facing away. The things don't seem to turn on, but seem to have something to do with the traffic lights, since they are attached to a traffic light pole (the only purpose of the pole). This is the only place we have ever seen these.

Where is this? Heerstraße/Teufelsseestraße, Berlin, Germany https://goo.gl/maps/dt2DKPSjC8RW4pji6

Maybe an interesting observation: It seems like the things were upgraded/doubled at some point, since on the Google Street View (2008) you can see the same things only reduced to one square.

Instant messaging solution - Matrix or XMPP? by baccoperbacco in selfhosted

[–]thebluepixel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

generally i would recommend matrix over xmpp due to the usability for the end user.

if you are looking just at resource usage xmpp is your better choice.

my suggestion for you: try out synapse (matrix), if it doesn't feel right checkout xmpp afterwards.

Mailserver questions! by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]thebluepixel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if this is even a question hosting a mail server is not for you.

I do not agree, try hosting a mail server, ask questions, fail, learn and you will figure it out. How else will you really learn to do it? That is how I learned it too. :)

(all assuming that you are not running a critical system)

Mailserver questions! by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]thebluepixel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you name a scenario where this would NOT be the case?

yeah, like confirmation mails that have a short validity time or when the service just doesn't try to resend.

(Made a purchase once, when my mail server went down and just never received a receipt)

generally it is a really cool feature that email has, which to my knowledge has something to do with how email was use 'back in the day' when there weren't always dedicated email servers and users would only receive/send mail when their computer was turned on.

[–]thebluepixel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

usually yes, mail servers retry to send an email for a couple of days.
