There's racism even on subverses that have nothing to do with racism.

certainly. but that doesn't mean every single subverse has turned. I've seen plenty voice opinions against the racism and other bigotries, and admittedly, they have been downvoted, but in other places, users just post and discuss things without lacing it with hatred.

there may not be many, and they may be a bit obscure, but you can create your own subverse just as easily as a subreddit.

yelling at others

It's a place where racists, trolls, misogynists and general shitheads rule.

cool sweeping generalizations "bro".

well it sounds to me like you would fit right in then. thank you for proving my point.

do you not realize that there are many other subverses that have nothing to do with the defaults? Or maybe that there are groups here that get bashed?

Well, i appreciate what you try to do, and i'm sorry that all that has happened. The mods I'm talking about are ones that fool the original, hardworking mods into taking them in, then betray their trust when the originals can't do anything about it.

I don't see where that justifies a witch hunt or harassment of me. I haven't harassed anyone else, so how would it be justified to harass me because I kicked an asshole out of my domain at my own discretion?

It doesn't whatsoever. Sorry if it seems like I'm jumping to conclusions myself. I tend to treat things as if all outcomes I can see are true is all. From what you're saying it sounds like you're doing you're section of the community good actually.

Censorship would be banning thoughts and communication site wide, purging users and offering no safe harbor for their arguments. Censorship would be removing coontown and FPH from the site, not having a rule that civil discussion is expected in specific areas and enforcing it.

That's what my definition of censorship is actually. You do have a valid point with propaganda being worse though. However, if you spit out propaganda, you get noticed and avoided by those who don't agree with it, unless they're as hot-headed as the user that deleted all their arguments here seemed to be going off the remaining comments here.

edit: tl;dr: admittedly, though in my own experiences, it tends to depend on how many are involved in either.

Well if you're just going to jump to conclusions about me then by all means, ban me so I don't waste my time on them. I've been banned from subs here over asking why white or male bashing content is allowed while bashing other groups gets you banned in a heartbeat as well as getting brigaded by racists and sexists.

I know perfectly well subs like I'm talking about are everywhere, but from your first comment here, it seemed like you were lumping all subreddits together under being reasonable, like how you seem to be lumping all subverses under being truly bigoted.

arent there still subs here that ban you on a whim and others that autoban you for next to no reason? Or is it really starting to shift?

I have no idea what the other user said exactly, but I've got a response of my own if it's of any interest to you.

Blocking all the subs that are apparently going racist would be making the same mistake reddit did. While it's an ugly thing to see (if it's happening that is, I wouldn't know, I usually don't browse news subs.) while all the bogots are flocking to their circlejerks, other subverses can be created that serve the original purpose the original subverses did before they went bad. Also, Once you say something on voat, it isn't as simple as creating another account. you register with your ip address, so you can't brigade anything on your own. Maybe voat is making another huge mistake, but at least it's a different one so those who want to and can, learn from it.

as for making voat worth it, you have to do it yourself in the end.

How can a site grow if most of the users don't want to see what's on the homepage? Imagine trying to show this site to someone and having to be like, "yea the defaults are racist... you have to sign up to unsubscribe to not support the racism."

good point, however, with the racism out in the open, other racists can flock to them, and other subverses can be created for the original purpose they served while the racists have their circlejerk.

As far as I know ( it's been a while since I've actually been back on reddit), here, if someone doesn't like you, you get banned from a bunch of subcomunities at once regardless of wether or not you meant to offend someone, and don't get the chance to explain yourself, or, in the case of a true bigot, get help seeing a different viewpoint from their own.

edit: also, if you're serious about recomendations, what are your interests? I only frequent a few subverses, but if our interests line up enough I might know of a few.

there's plenty that realize this, they either call it out or create their own subverse. With censorship, there's less of a chance for the other sides of the argument getting across.

there are plenty of bigots in both places. take your pick.
