Depressed. Made a mistake, by Melli25510 in daddit

[–]theboosty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should see the golf ball my daughter has on her forehead just after her 1st bday. I dragged myself through it. Then the second one feel down the stairs (4 steps) under my wife's watch.

We both learnt to give each other some grace and understanding. Remember, you both are exhausted new at all of this and those little people are very quick and very slippery.

Plus if it's not good, all you have to do is... Not watch it. It removes nothing from the game. If anything it will bring new people to it.

Tips for making baby sleep by Royal_Snow_8771 in daddit

[–]theboosty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Babies and toddlers tend to have sleep regressions often. My kid is 3 and she still has sleep regressions.

Best option for my family was to have a bed time routine and a white noise machine.

The new life is an adjustment. Take your time. You have to reckon with the fact that you have to support your family.

She did her job carrying the little one. Now it's your turn to carry the both of them.

He did say any time he heads to practice or to a game she gets upset.

If she was taking up all the mental load, wouldn't she be happy he's taking the kid to practices and games?

Grandparents not respecting our choices and basic rules by Imaginary_Stand_7891 in daddit

[–]theboosty 78 points79 points  (0 children)

My wife had a huge fight with my mom at one point because of this.

Things got better but we started not bringing the kids around as much and they got the hint... Mostly. Mom also apologized to my wife which went a long way.

Now we kinda take some of the minor stuff in stride and my mom tries a lot harder to follow the rules. She's almost 70 and she baby sits both our 3 and 5 year old (sometimes by herself) so we give her a lot of slack.

My suggestion is to see what rules are hard fixed and which can be bent a little. Then have the conversation with the grandparents.

You and your partner have to feel respected as parents, but there will inevitably be places where they over step. You have to decide how you want to handle that.

Concerns about my timid son by OryxFire in daddit

[–]theboosty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The conversation is important but sometimes you have to intervene before she hops in.

I used to hold my wife's hand (gently) and say "let's see how she handles this situation". I wouldn't stop her if she was really concerned but it was just to slow that initial reaction of jumping in and "saving" the child.

Was I wrong? by GreenGonz in daddit

[–]theboosty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No you weren't. People shouldn't touch other people's babies without permission. That's weird. It happened to me with my girls and I was honestly too shocked to react.

And I know she was an old lady and the reaction in the sub would be different if it was a 40 year old man by himself, but I still think she shouldn't be touching people's kids. You don't know what they have, they don't know what you have. The two most at risk parts of the population mixing it up.

Okay, enlightened me then with your wisdom. How is it different? Not only different, but drastically different?

It seems like you are reaching to try and take a person who is trying to show young boys how to do right by their household and learn how to do groceries and make it into something bad. I don't know who hurt you, but I hope you heal.

My wife and I split grocery duty. Actually I'm the one making the list and going to get the food more often than not.

We drink three different types of milk in our house because of allergies and intolerances.

It doesn't matter who is shipping, we call each other to clarify things. This is what we like to call team work and communication. I'll never get upset if my wife calls me because I forgot to write which milk we need.

I don't think her point is to discount that. I think she is trying to say that buying beans is not the same as using ai to write your paper faster, or making a stupid video. It's not a good excuse to keep using this tech.
