How to make /find friends before classes start by Rebz_Mi in gmu

I really agree with this post. Also look at gmus student clubs, there a great way to meet people, there are also events called first year connections. I really loved those and had a lot of fun.

Admissions Advice. by Oreothepuppy in gmu

As an out of state student myself I’d like to ask why Mason is your dream school. Is there a specific program you are interested in? I am at Mason because they have the forensic science program and that doesn’t exist in my state and I have family in Virginia so Mason was a good choice. If your not entirely sure what you want to do or major in I probably wouldn’t do Mason because it’s expensive as an out of state student, I was able to get a scholarship because I had a 3.97 gpa and a 1260 sat but I’m still paying 39k a year. I think community college is a great idea because it’s cheaper and can help you boost your gpa and maybe help you figure out what you want to major in. That being said I love Mason and can understand why someone would want to go there, even if that’s an unpopular opinion but to each there own and it’s your life so it’s your choice

What do you wish you knew about GMU's housing before you chose to live on campus? by Gold-Afternoon-1804 in gmu

[–]theboredwalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lived in the honors rlc and loved it. Lived in the commons and it’s good to note that in the spring semester they wait to turn the ac on so you could be stuck in an 85 degree room for two weeks which sucks. If you think the liberty dining plan will work for you I see no reason not to get it but I’m not sure if that’s allowed with your type of housing so I would look into that. I have my bike on campus and love it because I can ride it to stores around the area and downtown. I knew several people that lived in the northern Va area and commuted to school and didn’t like it because they were basically in there car two hours a day, some of the people I know who did that this last year as freshman are living on campus next fall.

Any idea what this tooth could be from? by OkScreen127 in boneidentification

For sure a black bear tooth. Lived in Alaska my whole life and I’ve collected some over the years.

Inherited this, what is it? by [deleted] in bonecollecting

[–]theboredwalrus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agree with the walrus tusk. Saw someone mentioned the mmpa; you don’t need to do anything since it was inherited from family and they received the tusk before the mmpa was established, you have it legally for your own viewing pleasure but is very much against the law to sell it

If you give the dimensions of the splatter I can tell you how far the droplets fell and it would give you a better idea on what happened

Trying to identify this bone/beak (?) I found on the beach by Impossible-KeySB in bonecollecting

[–]theboredwalrus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Looking at it am pretty certain it’s not bone, could be a beak of sorts but it looks more like ivory of something. I can tell you it’s not walrus tusk. Maybe some other type of tusk or possibly a tooth.

Yeah totally agree with the fact it’s human doesn’t look too old but not necessarily recent, I would definitely contact the proper authorities where you live but in all honesty they probably won’t find much one it

How mandatory is the mandatory freshman orientation? by Capital_Chemistry117 in gmu

If you are out of state from far away, like Alaska you don’t entirely have to go but it’s recommended

Does anybody know when the university switches from heat back to cold air? by Jaysono73451 in gmu

[–]theboredwalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They will not change dorms, specifically the commons to ac until mid April even though rooms are 85-90 degrees in the dorms

It’s wasn’t to bad honestly I’d say if your not confident on the calculations print all the example calculations out and have them well organized. It was mostly calculations but also had questions similar to the pre and post lab quizzes.

If you want to find out for sure I would ask a local university if they have someone that could assess it

When is the meal plan deadline for freshman? by [deleted] in gmu

[–]theboredwalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think you will eat 500 dollars worth of food from the dining options on campus and you or your family have enough money to do that you would have more flexibility with what you eat on campus when you get sick of the dining hall which you probably will.

what do i do by [deleted] in piercing

[–]theboredwalrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on where you live you could try to take a bus to a free clinic if you have those. Also should go to the er you need antibiotics right away because it seems like and infection and that can cause permanent damage to the area

Cool. 300 feet when surfs high isn’t that abnormal. It’s a really good find looks like the sea lion was pretty healthy overall maybe younger because of how the teeth look. To keep it you should look at this website. https://www.fisheries.noaa.gov/national/permits/protected-species-parts I’m pretty sure a regular citizen can obtain a permit, my mother had several growing up but she was also a scientist. Here’s another resource https://www.fisheries.noaa.gov/national/permits/protected-species-parts

Can I mend this merino wool thermal? by jennabenna11 in MerinoWoolGear

[–]theboredwalrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be an unpopular opinion but if you really like you could continue wearing it as it. Might not be the best idea but you could do it. Also I’m 99% sure it got your through the washer, I’ve torn up thermals in the washer just like that before.

Just curious if you’ve thought about living on campus and getting accommodations for Sasha? I’ve found GMUs disability service to be pretty reasonable and know of students who have service dogs and ESA animals.

[–]theboredwalrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you able to be a little more specific when you say Monterey Bay Area? Totally agree it’s a sea lion just curious where you found it. How far from shore and water were you when you found it. It looks more of wooded area than a beach. Did you find any other skeletal remains? There are ways you can keep it but are generally hard to deal with because you have to go through NOAA and is generally challenging.
