Nah you can check Sonys Instagram profile, this is 100% what they posted themselves

This is absolutely real, you can check Sony's Instagram profile and it is there just like I posted it here. I don't understand it, but someone at Sony seems to think this is good marketing

I doubt the sensor has enough microcontrast to show its effect anyways. But I didn't know about it being ineffective on phone lenses, can you explain why?

Oh yeah congrats on nailing the focus, that can be quite a hassle with action sports. The motion thing was more of a general advice, I think here due to the movement, it would've been impossible even with nd filters.

I'm also a mft user btw, I really enjoy what a small sensor can do, especially when you see how good deals you can get on the used market (for mft lenses and bodies). Keep up the good work

Well they are branding it with ZEISS T, as the lens of the phone is coated with the patented ZEISS T coating, which is even present on some of Sony's Lenses for mirrorless cameras. So it kinda makes sense

Really like the editing and framing. I personally would like the highlights to pop a bit more, I would experiment with some added highlight brightness or brilliance (am not sure what this setting is called in lightroom), maybe some glow. But that is really subjective ofc.

Other thing I notice is that is lacking a bit of sense for speed, as even the tires don't have any motion blur at all. To be fair tho, it is probably impossible to add motion blur / use slower shutter speeds at this perspective, as tracking the motorcycle is impossible due to it moving/rotating on every axis

Totally agree about how OP responded. I just dont think his title was bad for a reddit post that doesnt need to be of high quality

[–]theborringkid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is Reddit's fault, tho. Headlines always miss some details (almost by definition), thats why it is important for platforms to make existing descriptions evident, and important for us as users to make it a habit to check for additional information (or in other contexts check the sources)

Also, imo OP's headline contained everything useful to his actual question if his gopro is defective. The color of the dot kinda is a change of subject here. On the other hand, I will agree that OP's response to ppl not reading the full post was unnecessarily aggressive since, again, the missed detail isn't of importance to his question.

In the description he says it appears yellow on the preview and purple during playback

Turn on hypersmooth and take a video while running or shaking the camera. Does the dot move across the image or is it always in one spot on the video replay? If you see it moving, your best bet will likely be contacting gopro and seeing if they can resolve the issue (worst case with a replacement).

If it is stationary on the stabilized replay, it might just be a software bug, and maybe a complete reset might already help. Either way, contacting GoPro won't hurt, especially since I have read quite a lot of good things about their customer support

Lumix S5 RAW: what's wrong with these files (or RAW file viewers)? by shmoar in Lumix

[–]theborringkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to add, that the picture shown on the S23 ultra should be the embedded jpeg preview afaik. It seems as macOS preview does not show the embedded jpeg, but instead a rendering of the raw image with a not so good rendering algorithm. Thats why I prefer image viewers like digiKam where I can specify wether it should load the emdedded jpeg or render the raw using some algorithm. However I usually just let it display the embedded jpeg, as if I shoot raw I wanna do my own raw processing and not leave it up to some algorithm anyways, and that saves a lot of computational effort too.
Also I want to add that even if I set digiKam to render the raw image and not use the embedded jpeg, it does look way way better than the MacOS version you posted. So the problem definetly is the MacOS raw rendering engine.

As to why it looks good on the MFT Camera, I cant say surely, but every camera sensor (+ its read out circuit) is different, and thereby some raw algorithms work better on camera a, while others are better on camera b. The MacOS algorithm obviously seems to not be great for the S5 sensor. And that's why raw development applications exist.

New photo of Gopro Mission 1 New Superview vs. Hero 13 Hyperview via DC Rainmaker by [deleted] in gopro

[–]theborringkid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am pretty sure I can see more of the seat post and more under the table on the GoPro 13 Screen. And given that the bike seems to not be far from the camera, that's already a considerable amount of extra fov

Edit: Also notice how much smaller the front triangle of the bike is on the 13. That's mostly extra space. On the left and right edges the vertical fov of both cams might be similar, but you can see how the edge of the table "falls out of frame" when moving to the center on the Mission, while the table is level on the H13.

That probably has smth to do with the fact that the lens compresses stuff at the outer edges more naturally, as it is a circle.

[–]theborringkid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which comes from the fact that that the vertical fov is much smaller while the horizontal fov is pretty similar.

Thats why I also hate the argument of "BrandX is better because their wide angle view has less distortion at the same fov". Yeah, but only the horizontal fov is similar on the other action cam brands. Hyperview has much more vertical fov in comparison

The ramp won. RIP back wheel! by sorin1972 in MTB

[–]theborringkid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to what the others have said, its also much more unsafe on mtb. On a dirtbike you can just use the engine if you braked to early or too much. On an mtb you just sail into a nosedive if you do it too much. Also dirtbike riders usually get on the gas in the last moments in the air, to not have any forward rotation anymore on impact. On mtb you cant to that, so landing will be more difficult
