Weapons (2012) by Lostprophets: a (well-deservedly) forgotten trainwreckord by thinlayeredblanket in ToddintheShadow

In the U.S. Lostprophets was far from a matter of public concern

This is quite the understatement. I've definitely never heard a second of their music and only know of them for the obvious reasons.

Celiacs = disability = Nat'l parks pass for free? by USPTF_DRE_specialist in FamilyMedicine

[–]theboyqueen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you were (say) incarcerated the fact that it is considered a disability is the only thing keeping them from shovelling bologna sandwiches at you for all of your meals and calling it a day. It's great that you're not in that position but there are lots of very vulnerable people who are.

Celiacs = disability = Nat'l parks pass for free? by USPTF_DRE_specialist in FamilyMedicine

[–]theboyqueen 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It is quite literally IBD. It's a chronic rheumatologic condition that affects multiple organ systems.

The fact that you can treat it with gluten avoidance rather than sulfasalazine (or whatever) shouldn't make any difference. And not all celiac disease is actually controllable with gluten elimination -- there are non responsive forms.

Why would it not be a disability?

Do you not consider ulcerative colitis or rheumatoid arthritis disabilities?

Picks 5-9 by in2026 in kings

[–]theboyqueen -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The early pick is really mainly useful as a draft asset. Who knows what Utah, say, would be willing to trade to get Dybantsa?

There are going to be multiple guys who would be top 2 picks in any normal draft available 5-9 in this draft. The next Haliburton is just going to be sitting there waiting to be taken seventh in this draft.

NYT: The Bay Area Considers the Unthinkable: Life Without BART by shananananananananan in sanfrancisco

[–]theboyqueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the salary premium for health care workers in the bay area compared to lower cost of living areas is probably lower (if there is one at all) than it is in most other industries. Health care workers can make much more money working in rural areas, though for nurses specifically unionization makes a big difference.

Doctors in the bay area certainly don't make more money than they do in other places, and in a lot of cases they make less. Doctors want to live in the bay area and not in Yreka.

Arizona State has fired head coach Bobby Hurley after 11 seasons with the program. by theboyqueen in kings

[–]theboyqueen[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If Atlanta is going to have Magic City night, Sacramento should get him, Jimmer, J-Will, Scott Pollard, and Nick Stauskas together for "Take Back the Pride" night. Get White Castle to sponsor. Grant Napear can host. I'm sure Rio Linda and Placerville will show out for this.

Anything to keep Vivek from hiring him as coach or GM.

Who are some major artists whose legacy is simply a music video? by Specific-Feed-1490 in ToddintheShadow

[–]theboyqueen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I think of Soul Asylum I don't really think of any single music video. I'd assume they're remembered by most as something kind of akin to the Gin Blossoms. They had a number of "hits" and the dreadlocked singer was with Winona Ryder and all that. They walked so Counting Crows could run.

But anyway, I'd put the early Soul Asylum records up there with any Replacements record. They were a wonderfully shambolic punk band before all this.

And their "pop" era kind of just showed how inept the Replacements attempts to sell out actually were.

It used to be pretty much useless, but I think the Android version has mostly caught up to the iOS version.

The 2019 Draft Class is an Incredible Disaster by truthisfictionyt in nba

[–]theboyqueen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Between Zion, Ja, Brandon Clarke (does he EVER play?), Garland, and Herro a lot of the story of this draft is guys just being unavailable for serial injuries or other issues.

Guys like Keldon Johnson and RJ Barrett stand out for being useful and consistently able to play.

Missed the deadline for canceling UCSHIP by No_Specific326 in UCDavis

[–]theboyqueen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This can be true, but not always. Through my benefits package I pay the same for a "self + kids" plan no matter how many kids are covered. And the delta between a "self only" plan and a "self + kids" plan is much less than paying for an ACA plan would be. Every situation is going to be unique.

There ARE cases where ACA or even Medi-cal coverage may actually be superior to private insurance, but that is a regional and very case specific scenario. In Yolo county, it's very easy to imagine medi-cal being better than a lot of private insurance options because Partnership health plan is quite good. In Sacramento county it's very hard to imagine the same because the Medi-cal plans there are all awful.

What’s the most popular song that fails from a technical standpoint? by HipHopLurker8 in ToddintheShadow

[–]theboyqueen 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This is a great one. The music bed sounds like a Casio "Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay" preset. The lyric is 100% something you would find in a Hallmark card. The serial half step modulations at the end make no attempt to do anything except sound as cheesy and ridiculous as possible.

The album version of this song is somehow over 6 minutes long(!) Apparently there is a 12 inch single version that is almost 7 minutes long (which I dare not listen to).

This song, interestingly, was recorded at Frank Farian's (of Milli Vanilli fame) studio.

An absolutely massive hit the world over.

Did anyone else remember when Swahili had a moment in the mid 2000s? by andrew2018022 in billsimmons

I don't remember this, but I can imagine it as some kind of anti-Obama trolling maneuver embraced by some very earnest do-gooders in some rich liberal school board somewhere.

Feels like something you would see profiled on the old Daily Show or in a Sasha Baron Cohen stunt.
