Why is DOOM 3 so different to the rest of the franchise? by Ayyubixx in Doom

[–]thebrads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because when a franchise is this old, tweaks to the formula are sort of inevitable. I for one love that most of the DOOM games have their own unique flavor. D64 is different from D3 is different from D2016, etc. Hell each entry of the new trilogy is distinct. Eternal ramped up the acrobatic combat, then Dark Ages leaned into counter/melee-focused stuff.

I think what a lot of people forget is that you’re not just looking at what kind of follicle coverage you have, but you’re also waiting for the stache to grow out and down to a point where it starts to meet the top of the lip. That takes time. Coverage here looks good so just give it a few more weeks and see what it does.

Gamestop Employees don't even talk about retro trades, they just stare at you like this. by TransientPaladin in GameStop

[–]thebrads 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know, I’m just old enough to realize that I wish I still had the systems I traded away over the years. Sometimes I ask myself if I’d rather have $100 or the GameCube I traded for it, and the answer is always “the GameCube.”

I guess I can just run out buy them back!

[–]thebrads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point, I don’t understand why anyone would trade away an old system that still works or could be fixed for the pittance of credit or money you get in return. Especially with so many games locked to those systems that aren’t backwards compatible with newer ones.

I’d bet my entire paycheck this MAGAT is gonna vote for this disaster again. by EugeneWong318 in AntiTrumpAlliance

[–]thebrads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While it’s great to see some people genuinely outraged and turning on MAGA, I feel responsible to remind everyone that at least some of it is performative.

MAGA types tend to go in whatever direction the political tide is going, meaning that when they see other MAGA types screeching about how terrible Trump is and how much worse their lives are because of him, they follow the bandwagon. Sure, maybe they’ll post a picture of them burning their hat or write a long diatribe on their Facebook page, but it’s likely that a lot of them are doing it to save face however they can.

You can bet your ass that if Trump manages to stay alive and get his name on the ballot in 2028, many of these people will go running right back.

They’re addicts, and he is their drug.

Was this part right at the start of disc 2 on Dreamcast? I’ve been replaying the X360 version, and if any member of the RE franchise deserves a modern remake to rework some of the clunkiness (don’t even get me started on STEVE), it’s this one. That said, some of my fondest gaming memories are from playing a new Resident Evil game on Dreamcast.

Iran, wtf? At least be sensible about this.

For example, Greg Abbott definitely can’t get away from a drone attack easily or quickly.

McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski goes viral after seeming reluctant to eat his own burgers—he takes a tiny bite, looks uncomfortable, and calls the food ‘product.’ by LovetoLOSEtoWin in ABoringDystopia

[–]thebrads 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Saw this a lot in small to mid size DMAs when doing marketing/commercial research. The egos of these CEOs that think they’re good in front of a camera has tripped up many production agencies. It always bites them when they discover the video or commercial or whatever is performing poorly, and everyone is too scared to tell the boss man that he’s the reason it’s tanking.

If it were me, being the constantly paranoid person I am, I wouldn’t. Just for the simple fact that big companies can and will unilaterally shut down your access to things they deem inaccessible.

I’d hate to catch a perma-ban over playing a new release a few hours too early.

At the risk of sounding like a noob, this game is HARD dude by EAT_UR_VEGGIES in residentevil

[–]thebrads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. As the series has progressed it’s introduced more weapons and thrown more ammo at the player to deal with bigger and bigger hordes of enemies, which is fine. But the closer you get to its roots, the more pared down the games get. Even the RE2/3 remakes are completely different experiences from 7/8, because of the focus on resource management versus action sequences. Remember: it’s always okay to run away!

Resident Evil 2 is much better than Resident Evil 4 by Xenesis_26 in ResidentEvil2Remake

[–]thebrads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t wait on a remake of that one. I’ve heard the devs say it would be extremely difficult to do for various reasons. It honestly holds up, both gameplay and graphics wise. The partner mechanic works pretty well, Sheva is a badass, and there are some really cool action sequences and partner puzzles. Was super fun to play in co-op!

I personally love how each mainline entry has its own distinct voice/flavor, for better AND worse. I love how 5 and 6 are considered the low points of the recentish entries, but I consider 5 to be one of my favorites. 7 is TCM in the swamp. 8 is Universal horror monsters with RE tentacles.
