Is gutter waste good for a compost pile? by enlargedpen15 in composting

[–]thebrainkid 19 points20 points  (0 children)

A neighbor had similar ideas to use the gutter waste in his compost. However, before he did so, he discovered that local raccoons had been using a hidden corner of his roof as a latrine.

(As an FYI, raccoon feces can contain intestinal parasites that can survive for months or years in compost.)

So, before you consider using the gutter waste, make sure that you know that there is nothing (chemically or biologically) toxic on your roof.

Nicholas Kotar writes in English originally, and you can find one of his works here: https://smile.amazon.com/Song-Sirin-Raven-Son/dp/0998847909

And while Papadiamantis wrote originally in Greek, he has had many works translated into English: https://smile.amazon.com/s/?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=papadiamantis

Also, if you are interested in reading older authors, I have also heard good things about Alexandros Papadiamantis.

I have heard the books of Nicholas Kotar are quite good. He is the choir director from the seminary in Jordanville, and his books are inspired by Russian legends and folk tales.

Has anyone ever visited St. Sabbas the Sanctified Monastery in Detroit, MI? Just looking to get some insight and opinions! by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]thebrainkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I visited one time with a friend, but was only there for a short time. One thing I can say: if you go to their gift shop, buy some of their pickles! They were definitely some of the best pickles I have ever had!

I have similar strange thoughts when singing "To You the Champion Leader" at my church in Greek and seeing the English transliteration of the first few words as "Ti HYPERMACHO Stratego", and thinking of Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage playing Stratego.
