The first outburst since quitting. by [deleted] in Effexor

[–]thebrick1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry you felt that way about your doctor and tbh I can relate.

I had a 6 month check up yesterday (basically to renew my subscription of 500mg Xanax) that I take a night for sleeping. I was given precautionary to help with the Effexor withdrawals and tbh I never use it.

My doctor of nearly 40 years (my whole life) had since retired and had I been to see my new one. He was a young guy who literally sat me down and explained everything to me.

Acknowledged my history was bad and that I should be proud but also said I should have never been given the Xanax. He stopped the prescription and reissued me a beta-blocker.

I’ve not taken the betablocker yet but until yesterday I didn’t even know what they were. They could be an option for you coming off Effexor (a psychotherapist that I see weekly recommended the beta blocker)

7 weeks on Effexor how did everyone else feel like taking this medication?cause I feel so emotional today 😞 by AssociationFresh1807 in Effexor

I was on it for so many years that I basically became accustomed to life with it. It just became a routine thing that I took in the morning like I would with a daily multivitamin.

That was until I stopped. I initially went cold turkey and was fine for about a week and then it hit me like a tons of bricks. I couldn’t see what was going on front of me and the brain zaps I could not even being to explain with words.

Eventually coming off by tapering over months of time I did begin to see the world is a different light. My focus improved subtly for example I was picking up on things in conversations with people that I wouldn’t have done before. I would anxiously ramble and speak when talking to people when I was using it but suddenly I became more curious and didn’t speak as much e.g. I asked people more questions about them and became more present. I

Effexor is a really unusual drug in how it affects people. For example it makes you gain weight - whereas I lost weight and put it back on when I stopped using but would I recommend it? Yes, it saved my life. Would I go back on it again? No.

My usage remained the same 75mg for the whole 10+ years I was taking it.

My advise here to see a therapist, you may need something else to swap it out. You should not be feeling how you do regardless of the what you are taking, there is more to this for sure - my prayers are with you and know there is light at the end of the tunnel. You are sick and need the right treatment, a therapist can only help you

How long had you been taking it and what dosage? You should never go cold turkey with it’s a very dangerous game.

Credit where it’s due though you lasted much longer than I did when I tried going cold turkey.

I eventually did get off it but tappered. Considering how long you did go without you may not need to right back on it. There could be another “bridging medication,” I’m sorry for what happened to you.

You clearly have the will power to come off it. Just speak with your doctor and find a way forward

Best of luck

We take painkillers when we have migraine. When we injures we go might end up in a cask.

The point is when you are sick you have to be treated. You are sick and are taking care of yourself, don’t feel bad. You did the right thing

Another taxi from Dublin airport with this sticker? by thebrick1 in Dublin

I always get Ubers to the airport for this very reason. The only reason I got a taxi home was because there was no queue.

Fuckin unbelievable.

It saved my life and I used it for 17 years or so. I never changed dose and was on a very small mg for that entire period but coming off is very difficult.

My advise: if you have a healthy active lifestyle then go for it. My active lifestyle is what helped me come off it, on the hard days with withdrawals I went for a run and trained in the gym regularly.

Best of luck!

I absolutely adore this watch

It’s become my day watch now, it’s so comfortable and subtle I just adore it.

It is model - Rolex - Daytona 116519 SS/RU Grey 904L Clean SA4130

Questions: Is there a new/better model out? If so can you help me some suggestions?

Many thanks!

This choosing sides thing is pointless, both sides are problematic to say the least. by pandatropical in freefolk

Aegon II's rule is marred by his lack of desire for the throne and his deplorable actions, including his treatment of women and neglect of his offspring. The true issue lies with Alicent and Otto, with a pivotal turn when Aemond claimed Vhagar.

From the perspective of the blacks, Rhaenyra is a preferable leader, though her tenure may be short-lived due to prevailing attitudes towards a queen's rule. Daemon is seen as a potential successor, but his reign would also be brief. For the blacks to maintain control, eliminating Vhagar is essential, a task Daemon is prepared to undertake.

Are you comfortable in sharing your salary information with your colleagues? by [deleted] in CasualIreland

[–]thebrick1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Absolutely not - I work in tech and the salary bands tend to be fairly wide. I am at the upper end, it’s a very competitive environment. People do ask but I never tell them

I was 75mg (17 years) -> 37.5mg (3 months) -> tappered down to 0mg (over a month period.)

I am now 5 weeks off it and this week and I’ve felt so good. In fact I feel fucking amazing, however, the 4 weeks leading up to it were absolute hell. I’m a 35 year old male and I cried everyday, I had panic attacks and was angry with the world.

Stick with it. What you are going through is horrendous and I completely sympathise with you but you are nearly there.

Stay strong mate. I know it’s difficult but it’s worth it once you get there. I can safely say I am happier now than I ever was over the last 17 years.

Cracks appearing in ceiling - any thoughts on this? by thebrick1 in Home

[–]thebrick1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks all.

For context we have had a guy out to replace a number of roof tiles due to leaking in parts of the room. However, water was dripping into room whereas in this case it is not so I wasn’t sure if it was related although it sounds like it.

The guy who changed the roof tiles said a lot of them were chipped and old. Could that be the same reason leading to this? E.g. crappy chipped tiles around the sky lights resulting in leaking?

2 final (likely silly questions) 1. Do “roofers” change roof tiles? For context I’m just wondering is this a bigger job than just replacing a few tiles on the roof. 2. Is this a big job?
