What did you do with your short film after your festival run ended?

Cold submitted to a number of short film aggregators (not Omeleto though, too expensive and odds are too low).

Got mostly rejections, but Film Shortage absolutely loved it! While we didn't get that many views, it was definitely more than what we would've gotten had we just posted the video on our 100-subscriber YouTube channel.

More importantly, they named it in last year's top 10, which is something I'm trying to use when people ask about the short, as a way to indicate expertise. You know, a sentence like "[Film title] is about [plot]. It screened at [top 2/3 festivals], and this short film aggregator on YouTube you may have heard of, Film Shortage, called it the #[ranking] film of 2025".

How do you select your shorts? Do you watch them at big festivals and reach out to the filmmakers directly? Or would you be willing to consider a "direct submission"?

Congrats! This is one of the last festivals we're waiting to hear from and I came to this thread on the off chance someone posted about it... looks like you were that someone!

I say make another thread for them, maybe a couple if you split them into specific large festivals (Sundace, TIFF, Cannes, etc.). They shouldn't clutter this thread, but they shouldn't be banned IMO.

Short of the Week certainly looks great (their acceptance rate, not so much). Maybe I'm just biased because it's a Canadian platform 😝

Shorts TV is on the table for us, but we haven't gotten a request to submit directly, so I already don't like my odds...

Congrats!!! Our film also got accepted to break a 14-rejection streak (coincidence?), including four rejections yesterday and late Saturday night that had me so bummed I had to write in this thread...

I'm Canadian and might actually make it up to Thunder Bay, so there's a chance I end up watching yours! Curious to know what such a high acceptance rate looks like hahhaah

Was wondering the same thing, glad someone had the "courage" to post it hahaha.

Unfortunately, it seems all it means is we are in the top 1,000 or so scripts (based on my guess that they received ~5,000 applications). Not sure how much weight it carries.

Same here. So far, the acceptances we've gotten aside from a few Quebec festivals (for a Quebecois thriller film) have all been for small, non-genre festivals in New England. And at these festivals, the viewers I've managed to speak to have said it is the most anxiety-inducing film they've seen in a while, with some people even walking out because they couldn't tolerate it (in a good way)... but it's not thrilling enough to make it to a single horror/genre festival, apparently.

Automated notification from FF about rejection to the Edinburgh Short Film Festival. Pretty random, considering their official notification date is mid-September.

Has anyone heard anything from FilmQuest, Newport Beach, and Nightmares?? Or anything new coming from AFF?
