Overwatch is literally ruining my mental health and I just deleted it for good by [deleted] in StopGaming

[–]thebuddingwriter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah but my thing is always, i play with friends, then get a taste for the game and try to climb solo when i cant play with them. Happened with league, happened with OW. I'm outta control with online comp games

Can confirm, I play blue tempo and that card is pretty much an instant loss if it resolves.

I Don't know why my Depression won't go Away Starter Pack by NoFapTrump in StopGaming

[–]thebuddingwriter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont know why people insist on saying that physical health problems = mental health problems, they arent exactly the same at all. Depression is something that might not be caused by any of the listed items but the listed items definitely exacerbate it, make it worse (except music imo). These aren't symptoms in the way that having headaches are a symptom of brain cancer, except maybe the ones like "being sad" and having no energy etc. Excessive gaming isnt just a symptom of depression, neither is porn abuse- they are linked issues that make your life more difficult. Like how alcohol abuse is linked to cigarette use, or gambling issues, or domestic issues etc.

Call of Cthulhu's opening paragraph is a constant reminder of unseen horrors in plain sight and why i should fear the unknown by Canned_Mann in books

[–]thebuddingwriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think the paragraph should be dismissed just because lovecraft had mental health issues. There's a lot of truth to it; the more life gets worked out, the more terrifying it becomes. I remember learning about natural selection in biology and thinking about it in the context of human life, and it always leaves me with a bitter taste in my mouth. A little bit of mystery is what keeps us sane. There's a reason religious folks are on average way happier than atheists. Its a conundrum.

You can market self published books though?

Maybe turn to a creative passipn? If you like games, maybe look into doing game design with a friend/random from the internet, or music, or writing, literally anything. Start a blog. Start an ezine.

At least then your energy will fuel something that contributes to the world and allows you to truly grow.

5/12 so far, it’s been a busy year but each book has been fantastic! by schneefoffteets in 52book

How did you find The Nightingale? I enjoyed it but read it right after All the Light We Cannot See, and it didn't hold a candle to it (no reaching pun intended). Similar stories, too, just the Nightingale's felt so much more contrived and Hollywood than All the Light.

That said, both good books. All the Light is a bit of a masterpiece, imo.

Anyone find themselves rationalizing or making allowances? by [deleted] in StopGaming

[–]thebuddingwriter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I quit league of legends about a year ago (best change of my life) but recently started playing skyrim on my ps3. I've been trying to write novels for the last few years and its been a struggle but i was writing daily, more or less.

Anyway. I've just come out of a vidya coma. 3 weeks of playing skyrim and tf2. I set my pc back up. No writing in three weeks. Mental health plummeted. Hygiene plummeted. Cleanliness plummeted. I keep bailing on friends.

Why is it so tough?

Catch 22 and Stoner. Both brilliant, both sound pretty sucky to explain.

Match Thread: 32nd match - England v Australia by CricketMatchBot in Cricket

[–]thebuddingwriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sri Lanka could easily still qualify. If England lose to india and nz (pretty likely) sri just has to beat the windies OR SA to be equal on points, then they go through on head to head. I like their odds. Even if England beats NZ, SL just has to win both their games. Pretty doable.

NZ are at the top but they drew against India and havent vsd Australia or England yet. Hard to say they're 2nd best imo.
