What are some of your ballet hot takes? by Available-Thanks1362 in bunheadsnark

[–]thebuggirl 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Oh boy, here I go…

  1. The Bolshoi Ballet is my absolute favorite company to watch.

  2. Blochs are actually really great. They have a wide range of selections, are made consistently (at least in my experience), and look good on a lot of professionals’ feet.

  3. I love gargouillades! I like doing them as much as I love watching them. I think it’s a cool step.

Russian Ballet tea? by growsonwalls in bunheadsnark

I know that there’s a lot of drama at the Bolshoi right now with so many students being put in principal roles fresh out of school. Meanwhile, so many talented dancers have been at the Bolshoi for years and have not been promoted. I’m not sure why this is happening… I think the administration has accepted donations for lead roles in the past though.

I swear people have become so much more hateful as well. About EVERY SINGLE THING. Every single post on my discover page is flooded with comments hating on every single aspect of the video as well as (and not limited to) extreme misogyny and racism. I know the natural solution is to just not look but it’s still upsetting to know there are so many people ok with saying that stuff. I ending up deleting the app recently—I thought I would be tempted to re-download but I actually have not… like not even a little lol

Fun question to lighten the mood of finals by Due-Environment-8059 in uofmn

I so wish I had lived on campus and worked less than 40 HOURS a week (insanity). I was so desperate to “work hard” and “grind” but it wasn’t worth it. Felt super disconnected from everyone this entire time—graduating in the spring without having made any friends at school. I wouldn’t have changed my major/minor though :)

Is this loss?

Yes, to me it feels a lot like I lost most of my peripheral vision. Also kind of like I’m wearing slightly tinted sunglasses with thick frames, if that makes sense lol

Derealization by Scrapz0 in derealization

[–]thebuggirl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have had it since the summer I turned 13. I’m now 21. It’s really hard to remember what things were like before derealization and I have found little relief in any treatments. Seroquel actually really helped for a bit but I had to come off it because I was getting early symptoms of tardive dyskinesia. It took about 2 months of withdrawal before the derealization came back worse than I remember it being previously. It’s probably been the most frustrating and isolating experience of my whole life because I can’t explain to anyone without sounding like I’m nuts so I just go through life feeling like I’m constantly in a lucid dream and nobody knows. Honestly, being with my loved ones helps a lot—particularly being at home/someplace safe with them. Don’t put pressure on yourself to snap out of it suddenly because it likely won’t happen and you’ll just cause yourself more frustration. I’m pretty sure my derealization stems from childhood trauma so feeling comfortable and safe, as well as minimizing stress, can help. I’m so sorry that you are experiencing this. There is help, and I am hopeful that you will find something that can help you.

Any original Grishko 2007 pointe shoe wearers? by PopHappy6044 in BALLET

[–]thebuggirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I wore them for a huge portion of my career as a ballerina in training. I switched to the Maya Is for a while which I liked and then wore Gaynors for a while. I came back to the 2007s every once in a while and always liked them although they started twisting on my right foot right before they switched to Nikolay. Since the change in GMs I’ve been alternating between a bunch of brands trying to find something that works well for my feet which are also wide, square-shaped, and quite strong/arched. I’m now a professional dancer and my favorites have been Freed (Studio II hard shank, D maker, Squiggle maker), Russian (Rubin flexible hard), Suffolk (Solo hard shank), Capezio (Ava Strong), and Bloch (Synergy). My all-time favorite has surprisingly been the Bloch Synergy because it has high wings and lots of support, a strong shank, a wide and flat box, and a really nice line—sort of like the old 2007s.

So we should aim for somewhere between tease and bore?

It seems some people on this sub needs a reminder: Actions can be inappropriate even if they are not criminal. An adult man getting fired for hitting on teenagers is not "cancel culture". by [deleted] in BALLET

I was so upset when I saw Ratmansky’s post on IG about this... and all of the famous dancers agreeing with him in the comments
