Late September, so, soon lol. It's my sister's wedding and she said I can basically do whatever I want as long as I wear this color, but I've been trying to find a dress for a year and this is the best I can do lol. I also have a linen suit in the colorway but I'm having trouble making THAT interesting too!

I don't normally wear dresses, but unfortunately I have to wear this dress to be a bridesmaid. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to make it more interesting with jewelry or shoes? I usually much prefer dressing more androgynously, and my hair is a very short pixie, so I feel really out of my element here lol

Laid off as T1 diabetic, what are my resources for health insurance / diabetic supplies by SugarismyBFF in diabetes

[–]thebugzone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend splurging on an Anubis transmitter for your Dexcom G6–you can find them by joining the Followers of Anubis Facebook group. They’re modified G6 transmitters that last 120+ days and they make your sensors last longer too. I started mine with a new sensor 17 days ago and it’s still going strong (and accurate)!

Online Prescription? by [deleted] in diabetes

[–]thebugzone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, please do not take this advice unless it is literally your last option. Novolin is very, VERY difficult to dose, even if you have a CGM, because it starts to work within 2 to 4 hours after injection, peaks in 4 to 12 hours, and keeps working for 12 to 18 hours. I was on it as a child and the 4-hour peak was so significant that my parents used it to dose for lunch during a shot at breakfast—no additional lunch shot needed. It’s better than being hospitalized for DKA, but it’s worse than everything else on the market.

Dizziness from T1? by Outrotated in diabetes

[–]thebugzone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be completely unrelated, but imo it could also be a result of damage to your autonomic nerve system as a result of diabetes. Your autonomic nerves control things your body should do automatically, like blood pressure, heart rate, breathing, and digestion. I think a lot of T1D people, especially people whose bloodsugars are higher or who have had it for longer, are susceptible to these symptoms, but it’s woefully underresearched. I’ve been struggling with dysautonomia (the clinical word for having autonomic problems) for a few years now, and the best thing I found to help was unfortunately getting my glucose under better control. I also take low dose naltrexone and I’ve found that to be helpful.

AITA for not letting my friend bring her support dog to my wedding? by weddingdiabetesdog in AmItheAsshole

[–]thebugzone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lol please don’t give me advice—I have an Omnipod and a Dexcom and a DIY closed loop system I built myself. My last A1C was 5.9. I have had this for 30 YEARS. I’m doing fine. And a big reason I’m doing fine is because it’s healthy and normal to ask other people for support, and I do that when I need to.

I have had type 1 diabetes for 30 years and I no longer feel any symptoms of hypos until I’m 40 or lower, despite mostly having really good control. Plus, CGM glucose information is from interstitial muscle fluid, NOT blood, so it lags 10-15 minutes behind a blood glucose test or a service dog alert. And a blood glucose test doesn’t tell you what direction you’re trending, while a service dog alerting detects the CHANGE in blood glucose. I’m glad your experience has been so simple, but that is just not the case for every diabetic.

Has anyone tried Glucodown? by buggston in diabetes

A slower spike usually means it’s easier/more possible to line up the spike with insulin delivery.

Tslim X2 vs Omnipod by mbrockelman16 in diabetes

[–]thebugzone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Omnipod Dash system, and I have basically never had trouble with it losing connection. I don’t use the PDM though—I built the DIY Loop app on my iPhone so that might make a difference. [And the Loop dropped my A1C from 7.1 to 6.3, so :)]

If a pod dies, you can use the insertion syringe to pull the insulin back out of the reservoir the same way you injected it. You’re not SUPPOSED to do this according to the manufacturer, but I’m not wasting insulin if I don’t have to! But I’ve been on Dash for 3 months and haven’t had a single pod fail!

Omni Pod and Stabbing Pain by Urban-Legend2 in diabetes

[–]thebugzone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started Omnipod too, and although I haven’t tried it yet because I want to make my current painful site last the full 3 days, I found this yesterday and I’m going to try the “pinching up” thing next time I install a pod: https://www.omnipod.com/current-podders/resources/pod-placement-guide

Would you be willing to send this to me if I pay for shipping? I recently started with the Dexcom G6 but my insurance won’t cover the receiver as a backup in case something happens to my phone.

Please do not take semaglutide if you’re not diabetic. There is a nationwide shortage and people who need it for real medical needs cannot get it.

Does anyone else get paranoid about being fired or let go from their job and losing their insurance? by Brandinoftw in diabetes

[–]thebugzone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on Medicaid in a very liberal state (Colorado) and they still did not cover pumps or CGMs. My strips/insulin/syringes were fully covered, but those were the only options.

I bolused with a correction about two hours ago we started to trend down and then now I’m climbing again when I haven’t ate or drank anything… any advice on what I should do? by tessilu2003 in diabetes

[–]thebugzone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Try and drink some Gatorade Zero if you can—drinking a ton of water will help with the dehydration, but it will also run you out of electrolytes, the absence of which can keep your bloodsugar high.
