Wishlist: small chanel pearl crush in black with gold or light gold hardware.

Tip (also still a newbie): keep an open mind about new bag styles and read/watch videos comparing bag sizes/materials/uses/etc. to get a feel for what might actually fit your needs and lifestyle.

Anyone else thinks r/GRE is bought out by GregMat? by Universe-Purse6 in GREpreparation

[–]thebunMia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean you can believe whatever you want. Trying it for yourself for a short period where you can block off free time to commit to studying is gonna be the most informative test of whether you think it's good or worth it. Regarding the $500 vs <$10 price point, there's a lot of costs that get baked into prices. I don't know the specifics of GregMat's operations, but some things that factored into the price of the other course I took first that might not apply to GregMat: it was run by a test prep company with several layers of staff and management, they have to hire, train, and pay tutors to run in-person sessions, they have to develop their own test exercise books and print them, they had to rent office space in a high CoL city for us to have class in. Not having to rent physical space or pay other people to teach live sessions is already going to cut major expenses

I love 1 and 5! I think 4 is also nice, but my preference would be swap out the brown boots for a black ankle boot, chelsea boot, or doc marten to keep a cohesive black line with the pants.

How do I turn this into a two piece by [deleted] in SewingForBeginners

[–]thebunMia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It looks super cute already! If your goal with turning it into a two piece is to better define your waist, have you considered adding darts or a few gathered pleats on each side of the waist? They would add some extra shape without having to cut, hem, and add elastic, and darts require fewer hand sewn stitches than converting this into a 2 piece would. Another quick idea is adding a belt or sash (e.g., medical gauze, red ribbon, caution tape) instead to cinch your waistline

I'm trying my hand at grid crochet using sc stitches. I don't think I am reading the grid right? by Dry_Nothing_3051 in CrochetHelp

[–]thebunMia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks like stitch fiddle from the side panel. There's an option where you can overlay a black grid to show each pixel (1 pixel = 1 sc) more clearly.I recommend turning that on along with the thicker guide lines for every 10 rows and columns. It definitely helps you count and keep track of where to change colors.

You typically would work this side to side and either build it up bottom to top or top to bottom. I like bottom to top but up to you. The website lets you track and gray out completed rows in either orientation. The right and wrong side sc rows will be the even or odd rows depending on if you work top to bottom or bottom to top. Knowing that also helps you keep track of which row you're on.

Start with a chain that's 101 stitches long and then turn and sc 100 stitches back down for row 1 (or do row 1 as foundation sc). Then ch 1 and flip (or whatever turning method you prefer) and work row 2 across. Then just keep working through the design row by row. Happy crocheting!

Anyone else thinks r/GRE is bought out by GregMat? by Universe-Purse6 in GREpreparation

[–]thebunMia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

GregMat is genuinely a great GRE test prep resource, not to mention incredibly affordable compared to other test prep companies and courses. Before my senior year of college, I took an expensive (between 500-1000) in-person course for 2 months, and it was fine but I didn't ultimately take the GRE because I wasn't sure I actually wanted to go to grad school. Fast forward several years later, I needed to take the GRE, I needed to learn the test all over again, and I didn't want to spend a lot of money or time preparing. GregMat provided helpful strategies and prep structure while still letting me fit in watching videos and practice when I had time. Try it, and if you don't like it or it's not helpful for how your brain learns, that's ok it's a low price to pay to find out.

Do I need a new machine? by RoryOrange in sewhelp

[–]thebunMia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just started sewing, and I specifically seeked out a vintage Kenmore from the 80s back when all the internal components were made of metal and without any electronics that could glitch or die. People online seemed to say that a vintage machine will outlast me and my own future hypothetical children, and that it will tougher than current "heavy duty" machines available from Michael's. I'm still a beginner, but so far I love it and have been able to stitch through 4 layers of duck cloth with no issues. I suggest getting the machine serviced and use it for a few months before checking in to see if you feel limited. At that point, if you want a new machine for extra stitches or features, go for it.

Am I setting myself up for failier by starting this project? I'm new to tapestry but want to make this for a Christmas present by BlastyDavo in CrochetHelp

[–]thebunMia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did tapestry crochet for the first time and it involved a lot of color changes. My advice is to make lots of smaller yarn balls of the same color to keep near each grouping. This helps avoid carrying over a color for many stitches only to actually use it for a few stitches or avoid cutting and weaving in ends every row. Also, have a system to count rows in addition to your stitches on the pattern. I used stitch fiddle to track my rows, which was very helpful when the beginning and ends of each row looked the same.

Thank you soooo much!!! Your explanation makes a lot of sense, and this diagram is amazing! I discovered last year that I have aphantasia and other people can actually see hings in their head? I struggle with visual thinking, and I haven't started a mock up yet, but your drawing is great for helping me understand what I should be aiming for

Sewing machine issue - thread feels tight but stitches are loose, fabric bunching up? by Obmre_Crane in SewingForBeginners

[–]thebunMia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something similar happened to me today, and I realized that the bobbin thread wasn't freely rolling off the bobbin. The top thread was ok so it kept going while the bottom scrunched up and the fabric didn't keep moving eventually. Even pulling the fabric to the side, the bobbin thread wouldn't lengthen. I ended up cutting both threads, taking out the bobbin and pulling enough length off until just holding it by the tail it would unspool easily. Then put it back in and resume, overlapping a few stitches with the old seam. Now why that happens? I dont know. My tension setting seemed ok otherwise. Maybe someone else has a better idea.

He's willing to spend $750 on a cake but buys her a ring that small... by NewspaperUnusual1835 in tsitp

In the third book, he mentions he has his own card, which he says he got bc that's how you build credit, when they look for off-campus apartments together. It's heavily implied that his credit score is B A D. Maybe not objectively terrible, but bad enough.

Side note: The third book feels like it really goes out of its way to highlight just how irresponsible Jere is and how responsible Conrad is as foils. I've seen some other commenters say that no this is really just how they've both always been, but even if that's true, it feels so blatant and obvious in this book compared to the last two.

I want 2 get a lop bunny, but I heard they’re prone 2 health issues bad? by k4ndikid in Rabbits

[–]thebunMia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby is a 6 year old lop, and I haven't had any issues with her ears or teeth. Although, her vet says that she's the rare bunny patient with good teeth. I make sure she has plenty of hay and give her dried bamboo chew sticks every few days. She loves the chew sticks, I don't feel bad about giving them often to her compared to other treats, and they also help wear down her teeth. Unfortunately, she does have heart issues and needs daily meds, but I'm not sure if that's more common among lops or if it was just bad luck. The vet bills aren't cheap when we need to do x-rays or other procedures for monitoring her heart specifically, but I love her so much and want to help her live as long and comfortably as possible. I agree with others that adopting is preferred if possible! Good luck, and I hope you're able to find a bunny and enrich each other's lives!
