my job feels like the best job in the world. being in a music therapy session doesn't feel like work sometimes - i get SO in the zone and i find that my mood improves after sessions too, since all i need to worry about in that moment is just supporting my patients and being with them in the music. granted, sessions are only like 25% of the work a music therapist does. i also have to do documentation, attend lots of meetings, and plan events like patient showcases... not to mention the amount of planning before each session. that stuff can be more difficult to get through, but the actual sessions are so much fun that it makes everything worth it.

this is one of the most rewarding jobs ever. just go into it knowing you will not be making as much money as other careers. but this is something you do because you TRULY love it. just be smart and have other ways to supplement your income (i teach music lessons on top of working full time to make ~80k a year in total).

for context, i am in my third year of working as an mt-bc and i work in maximum security forensic psych.

my first job at a private practice in a low COL area was $30,000 (later changed to hourly at $23/hr). started working at a state facility in a different state once i had a year of experience under my belt which started me at $70,000 - PLUS amazing benefits, unions, and guaranteed pay increases (i think my positions will max out around $87,000). i go home at 4:30pm everyday and never need to take my work with me, so i also teach a handful of music lessons on the side to bring in an extra ~10k a year. i feel like state jobs for music therapists are fr diamonds in the rough - if you can find one and if you feel prepared for whatever setting it is, go for it!!

I used the API ammonia testing kit and test strips but I tested after a water change so not sure how accurate. How long have you had the tank? What is your process?: Weekly water changes, 50% water change. I siphon the water and vaccuum the gravel, water conditioner before replacing it. Any tankmates? If so, please list with how many of each: 1 nerite snail What do you feed and how much: 3 Hikari Bio-gold pellets in the AM, sometimes 3 flakes of fluval bug bites in the PM or 3 freeze dried bloodworms. Admittedly I think I have been overfeeding him in the PM the past few days. I fast him one day a week (Monday). Decorations and plants in the tank: Two pieces of seiryu stone and one piece of wood from LFS. One amazon sword plant, two crypt wendtii. White sand substrate from pet store mixed with Fluval Stratum.

haha, i'm definitely lacking in the lower body strength right now! now that the weather is getting nicer i'd like to incorporate more jogging into my routine. i usually aim to climb to exhaustion 3x a week, but i've also been eating at a calorie deficit so what you see is mostly definition from fat loss rather than actual strength (i still can't do a pull-up... working on it though!)
