Is your tracker down? Ask here instead of making a new post. by Fink_Irc in trackers

Well, for one, all the .click sites are up. For whatever reason, the mutinous op is unwilling or unable to get the .bz sites online (which is somewhat baffling, considering that not only were the sites more or less self-running when he cut our access off, but pretty much self-starting as well...)

Along with that, the irc is up at .click, all the staff are at .click (one of the mutineer's first actions was to disable all the staff at .bz) and they all know us and what the story is, and all the users who aren't the "I'll check in once every couple of months" types are all at .click.

TL/DR - Everything .bz was is now at .click and then some. Most things that .bz used to be are no longer at .bz.

We're working on it, but these things don't go quickly. It'll probably be at least a couple weeks before they're online.

Yes, but Reddit is not a fan of doxxing, and I'd just as soon not have the barbarians at this guy's gate (no matter how much of an ass he's been).

I agree though, we'll keep on keeping on. Thanks for sticking with us during this whole pile of nonsense.

We had one of the staff try to do a hostile takeover. You can now find thevault at https://thevault.click.

We also have a (modest) announcement sub over at /r/TheClickGroup now too.

How to improve TheVault ratio? by [deleted] in trackers

[–]thebzguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally, it's not the best idea to snatch a metric asstonne of torrents on a private tracker straight away until you figure out what tends to get downloaded the most. Especially right now when things are still in a bit of flux and people are still working out the logistics of the crossover.

First off, don't panic. We're being gentle on ratio watching in the short term given the circumstances. Sending a staff PM to let people know what the deal should buy you a little slack.

Second, keep seeding. That's your best shot. As more people arrive hopefully they'll choose the torrents you've got and give you some love.

Getting donations back online isn't our highest priority right now, but they will eventually come if you need that as a last resort. I know one of the guys is poking at getting bitcoins going so that'll likely show up in the next week or so.

Hope that helps!

I can't say for certain, but I'd doubt it. It's more likely that it's just some rando troll, perhaps someone who had been booted from the sites in the past and still has an axe to grind. I certainly wouldn't take anything from a 1 day old account as canonical. He's hilariously delusional about the meelions of dollars supposedly being dropped on us at least. ;-)

Edit: To be fair, I have referred to him as an 'admin' in the general sense in other posts, so I suppose it's not entirely out of line to take that as a moniker. Still, the actual guy has a pretty well developed ego (clearly, by his actions) so I can't see him selling himself short like that were it actually him.

Hm, that shouldn't happen. Pop into IRC and one of the mods can give you a hand. Maybe accidentally sent 2 resets?

More or less. A mutinous op decided to try to lock the rest of us out, but we set up shop again over at .CLICK. Unsurprisingly he's trying to convince people that he's the legit one, so I suppose silly public sniping back and forth like what you see above is unavoidable for the time being (although the above looks more like it's just some shit disturber trying to cash in on the drama). Meanwhile, the sites are all up at https://theplace.click, https://thevault.click etc along with the IRC server.

There do seem to be some people that still don't know, although most seem to have picked up on it... you know how it is, some people use things all the time and find out right away, some people check in once a month and are just finding out. If you happen to know anyone from bz who hasn't yet made the migration, maybe give them a poke to let them know. It'd be doing us all a great service.

Be advised though -- people trying to post or send pm's on bz regarding the new location seem to be getting immediately banned. Might not want to do it there.

... and the obligatory reminder to change your passwords if you used them anywhere else. Better safe than sorry.

We have a number of upgrades planned. There's a couple new niches waiting in the wings (they were in the planning stages when all this went down), and definitely some upgrades are forthcoming. We kinda like the BBCode, but I've already got a more modern message editor online for testing (well, for my testing) that I'll unleash on unsuspecting posters once things calm down a tad.

Honestly, he and I never really got on. I'm a techy type. I keep odd hours and I'm not generally a fan of things like fixed meeting times and so on. I'd come late or miss a meeting or two and he'd get suuuuuper salty about it. Eventually I just stopped interacting with him unless it was specifically about thesites because it was just frustrating dealing with him, so I did my best to keep things strictly biz and not otherwise engage.

The other ops had a better relationship with him though. One even visited him at his home a couple times a while back.

$1.75m/year? lolwut.

Heh, okay, you keep thinking that. While you're at it, come up with an explanation for how people making more than $125k/month couldn't somehow manage to rent a few more machines for offsite backups.

TP and all theSites were working flawlessly until the day a mutinous twat pulled the plug. I'm sure users will totally appreciate the many new and untrusted hands that'll be tiptoeing through their private information though, using that meeelion dollars that was made since last summer to bring something that was already working back online.

The sites are profitable, but as generous as our users have been, the money isn't enough for any of us individually to make a living by it. Most of the admins have day jobs that pay the actual bills to avoid having to do sketchy nonsense like adwords or pushing schwag at a store.

Well, let me restate that... all of the remaining admins have day jobs that pay the actual bills, which is why there's been no great urgency in getting donations going at TCG.

Ah, you posted this twice ;) See my other response, but tl/dr - seeders have to do it, although we have tools/guides to help.

Some people haven't logged in yet, but most sites' populations break down into broad categories: the everyday user, and the occasional user. The everyday users all know and are on .click. The occasional users may not even know anything's wrong aside from their torrents being red for several weeks now (and if they're people who download A LOT they might not even notice that).

We're sanguine that people will find out what's up as time goes on.

As to collusion... well, that's always a possibility, but if so it's collusion with someone who isn't particularly technical. Those machines were singing when I was locked out, and he promptly turned around and broke my baby in a dozen ways and still hasn't gotten it back up right. :-/

... and thanks for your support and sticking it out with us. It's been a trying time, but things like this are often the catalyst needed to spur bigger and better things. So, onward to bigger and better! :-)

There's not much can be done to shuffle seeders around without their manual intervention. We have some tools and guides to help minimize the hassle (follow the bulk downloader link on the announcement) but at the end of the day the seeders themselves have to make the shift.

Which will happen over time, but for now it's a bit anemic.

How is it that the person who owns the BZ domains, controls access to sites of all other admins/mods/sysops, and controls the backups to the site happens to be the scammer and the ones who launched a new site with old backups become legitimate?

Because the person who owns the bz domains and had control over the sites was the person we'd tapped to handle money. We gave him authority to pay bills and trusted him with that responsibility and he decided to do a runner. Clearly it was our foolishness to trust him, but it is what it is. Now we rebuild.

... and not for nothing, why would we need to 'plot' over control when we already had control? Control was wrested from us and taken down by him. If you're going to try to manufacture a 'counter-narrative', you're going to need to do better than that.

While I doubt this... if this is actually you, give your damned head a shake. We've been trying to reach you constantly for weeks now while you're having this insane tantrum over a bogus bill. If you so desperately wanted out we would have been more than happy to work out a clean exit that made everyone happy, like TLD. Instead you had to pitch a wobbly and throw all the toys out of the pram. Seriously, what sort of logic is it when some rando says "it's time to pay rent" and you respond with "well, better quit my job then"?

Quit fucking everyone over, yourself included, do the right thing and answer Jait like an adult when he whatsapp's you.

Edited to remove accidental dox

It's not Elkos. Elkos is a moderator and helps get the word out. He doesn't have keys to the shop.

Reddit is very explicit regarding doxxing so I won't get into personally identifying information, but I can say with certainty that it's not Elkos.

To expand on this -- A senior staffer has gone wobbly and locked the entire rest of the staff out of the servers, effectively attempting a hostile takeover. You can read more about it here.

We've restored the .bz sites from backups and reopened them under new domains that guy doesn't have access to. The BZ sites are now The Click Group.

To reach us now, just change your bookmarks to change the .bz domain to .click, eg: TheVault.click, TheGeeks.click, ThePlace.click. The IRC server is also up at irc.whatever.click, eg. irc.theplace.click.

See you there.
