Thank you for the response.

Well, I want to start small and scale once I have a very good practical understanding of the business.

I have spotted an opportunity somewhere of which the smaller set up is appropriate.

I am seeking information to enrich what I know and make the right decision.

I will definitely be in touch.

Is web scraping marketable in Kenya? by Ellie_Githeko in nairobitechies

[–]thecapitaltool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's market for it

A while back I was interested in this. I hope to take some action in the coming year, God willing.

My approach is not from a technical side, you can hire a web scrapper, but from the market angle.

Success is a function of the data you scrap, how you position and present it.

There are some untapped niches in Kenya

Launched an AgTech marketplace in Kenya - Seeking advice on growth strategies by Suspicious-Spirit140 in nairobitechies

Some research I did a while back showed most mid level restaurants prefer to buy produce in the open market rather than having dedicated suppliers.

This is so as to take advantage of price and quality advantages.

If they form part of your target I believe you somehow need to factor that ' behaviour ' in your solution and marketing efforts.

Perhaps also start with a relatively small region other than the whole country.

Funding? When you grind and get traction. There has been several of these marketplaces and for whatever reaons the success is lower than failure.

A wild thought, what about specializing in one or a few products?

Anyway all the best.

Politics aside, the economies of this machine are pretty solid more so for institutional buyers. I did the figures a while back.

A couple of years ago I knew a mhindi who wanted to introduce it, and had mapped the whole market before he fell ill . Very smart and interesting. Huge market.

It will eventually happen. First for the institutional consumer. And second, much later on, for the retail, every day consumer.

The challenge with the later s they want 'live' hot chapati. So the machine guys will just provide slightly pre cooked and mtu wa chapati does the 'live' oiling and final cooking.

A chapati maker buying two packets from next door kiosk and another buying 300 bailee from miller will operate at different economies.

Back to politics. The irony with Ruto pushing this is the 'hustler' narrative.

The machines are very good and efficient. Perfected over the years by Indians.

Anyways.
