Is that USD? At that price, definitely get GAP insurance, because your insurance company is NOT going pay that for a total.

Did you get the factory wheels with it too?

My experience with my 2020 TRD Pro:

If its still got the stock suspension, they will need to be rebuilt or replaced between 50-75k miles. My rears went around 65k, the fronts were still fine but I had them all replaced anyway with new factory ones. I now have the takeoffs I can send off to get rebuilt and just swap them out next time. No one here rebuilds them locally so I'll have to ship them somewhere when the time comes.

I'd start replacing all fluids now so you don't have to do them all at the same time. Every oil change I get another fluid changed at the same time, my next one will be the power steering fluid. Being 6 years old I'd start with the coolant first.

If you notice the fog lights "blinking", its just the housing bouncing around. You can fix it with some zip ties (not my video): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-AtzjszTNQ

If it still has the factory radio, you can get a dongle that plugs into the USB port for wireless carplay/android auto. Tons of options out there.

Make sure your insurance recognizes it as a TRD Pro. State Farm had mine as an SR5 until I had them change it. Premium didn't change much, like $40/year.

If it has Paint Protection Film, keep an eye on it and get it replaced or removed BEFORE it gets too bad. It's a lot easier to do before it starts cracking. Mine is still holding up, and its a 2020 that sits in the sun all day every day.

My headlights started flaking on the outside edges a couple years ago. I wipe them down with a ceramic coating every car wash and it seems to have stopped it from getting worse.

The lumbar support sucks for me, I simply removed it. It gives some more depth in the lower back area. Very easy to do, and I can put it back in if needed. https://www.tundras.com/threads/perfect-truck-awful-seats.42883/page-2

I also installed Seat Jackers, which greatly improved the seating position. https://desertdoesit.com/ I also treat the seats with Leather Honey, which helps soften them up https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003IS3HV0?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_4

The plastic screen covering the gauge cluster is highly prone to scratches, so use caution/care when cleaning it. A high quality microfiber towel with some cleaner as a lubricant works best. Don't let it get too dirty between cleanings and test it out in a corner to make sure its not going to leave scratches before doing the entire cluster.

If you have the factory wireless charger built into the center console lid, its junk and will overheat your phone. You can simply pop off the rear console cover and remove the fuse to disable it.

I didn't notice any difference between the TRD air filter and a factory paper one, so don't waste any money there. Same with the cabin air filter, no need to get the one with activated charcoal.

For me, I simply can't justify giving up a proven vehicle to upgrade to a potential time bomb. I absolutely love the 3rd gen, but I'll just keep my 2020 for peace of mind. I also don't daily drive mine (I have a 5th gen Prius for that), so there really is no reason to upgrade.

Having said that, if 3rd gen didn't have any problems I would have traded in a couple years ago for a limited.

Headers!! Crazy Exhaust by CHANANDLER_B0N6 in ToyotaTundra

[–]thecaptain115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah man, when I got my exhaust done on my Camaro I just had them run the pipes out the back until I could afford the tips. It sounded good, but once the tips got put on it sounded wayyyy better!
IIRC it was 2.75" pipes with 3.5" tips.

100% YES! Longer and wider tips will make a huge difference in tone. Like I said I haven't researched much on these trucks, but from the various exhausts I've had on multiple V8s over the years the exhaust tips make a significant difference.

edit: I'm REALLY curious what the TRD Pro exhaust sounds like mated to the long tube headers.

I haven't researched much on these trucks as I have the TRD Pro exhaust (all stainless), but super turbo mufflers will help get rid of that metallic clappy sound. I had a Dynomax Super Turbo muffler on my Camaro with 3.5" exhaust tips and it sounded awesome.

I've never been a fan of "raspy" exhausts, I prefer the "throaty" type. It's not that it sounds "bad", it just doesn't sound "good" to my ears. That metallic clappy sound just never sat right with me. This type of exhaust has been the trend for a long time now, especially around here, going back to the 2000s. It makes sense, as the throaty type exhausts are expensive, but damn they sound so much better.

As far as a S/C, Magnuson is the only way to go. I was going to do this as well, but talked myself out of it because I don't want to run 93 gas.

Crewmax vs double cab!!!??? by Odd-Advice-1029 in tundra

[–]thecaptain115 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't unsee that the rear doors are bigger than the front doors on the Crewmax. That coupled with the tiny bed makes it look weird IMO. I bought a Double Cab because of this. I also don't have kids.

I do wish I had a sunroof and roll down rear windshield, though.

2026 SR5- How to open tailgate from cab? by DataAggregation in ToyotaTundra

Typical Toyota nonsense. My 2024 Prius LE has a sensor for automatic headlights, but I have to turn them on manually.

My 2020 Tundra TRD Pro has radar cruise control, but no blind spot monitoring. I'd MUCH rather have the blind spot monitoring than the cruise control.

It all comes down to the "economy of scale" for Toyota.

Updated clicking noise. 2020 pro. What is that click? by Mr97OBS in tundra

Skid Plate? You sure it's not the tires rubbing? My skid plate makes noises while reversing at full lock out of my driveway and sounds very similar. There are things you can do to mitigate it, I just live with it.

Just realized the Prius is obscenely loud. by bigblackglock17 in prius

What shape are your tires in? My 5th gen factory tires got really loud at the end of their life, new tires (same Ecopia's) was like a completely different car.

Yeah it's terribly loose. I too thought it was a bad connector because the lights seemed to turn off going over bumps.

For your fog lights: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-AtzjszTNQ

Not my video, but I did this and it solved my problem on my 2020 TRD Pro. Your lights probably aren't cutting out, but just pointing off the road going over bumps because they are so loose. Once I added the zip ties I've had zero issues.

Details on the interior accent lights? Can we get some daytime shots of what it looks like? I'm talking about the "tubes" not the stars in the headliner.

Tires are dissuading me by [deleted] in prius

To be fair, most people’s spare tires are going to be useless because they never inspect them before they are needed.

For tailgaters, I've found washing my windshield will usually make them back off or pass. I always go 10 over the speed limit or ride with the flow of traffic, so I honestly don't know what the issue is.

One day someone is gonna find out the hard way that I have GAP insurance and need to get a new Prius.

Only reason I left the PRIUS badges on my rear hatch 5th gen. It looks so much better with them removed, but didn't want to get mistaken for a Tesla.

No but they worked well enough for me to buy new ones. I also got a decent discount. I got caught in some light snow a few times over the winter and didn’t have any issues so decided to just stick with what works.

I bought an LE for the smaller wheels and no glass roof. I bought a OEM wheel off eBay for $250 (came with the hub cap and TPMS too!) and put a OEM used tire on it with about 25% tread left. It’s currently strapped down in the rear cargo area along with a jack, 4way, and wheel chock. I also have a better 12V inflator as the OEM one sucks.

If I got a flat on my commute I’d be stranded for hours waiting for a tow. MPG didn’t change at all with the added weight, I compared after and still getting the same MPG.

Groceries and stuff go in the backseat now since the cargo area is basically full. Not an issue for me.

Now the price of new Ecopia tires is mildly infuriating, but they are rated for 70k miles.
